Sinister: Too many choices!

I hope you all can help me out here. I have written before on how difficult it is to find B&S where I live, and someone sent me to a place on the web called "Secret Sounds" where I could order the new ep's. I'm very wary of internet businesses, so I'm going to order ONE of the ep's through them, to see how they do business. So here's the question: I have Sinister, but which ep should I try first? Actually, I have another question: I'm going to be in Orlando Fla. soon, and I want to ask if there are any listers who live there who can recommend a good record store where I might be able to find the ep's. Shops here in Nashville, despite it's claim of being "the Music City capitol of the USA" try hard but always leave me disappointed. Hello - i've been lurking for a while. I find it hard to write as i'm working in Boston at the moment so getting to my PC is kind of difficult! Anyway, i've finally been inspired to write by the mention of the truly wonderful Lilac Time. When I taped Tigermilk for someone I put 'Astronauts' on the other side - so this has got me thinking : what have other people taped on that inviting 45 blank minutes which could live up to the greatness of 'Tigermilk' & not force the listener to knacker their walkman batteries with constant rewinds? Oh & the person who said The Lilac Time's lyric's are silly, whaddya mean ? Stephen A.J Duffy always manages to slip in a wondeful couplet in EVERY song!! I have some more questions about The Lilac Time, but I'll not bore the list now. If you're a fan mail me privately - you may be able to help. Oh, & I've a spare vinyl copy of 'Astronauts' If anyones interested, get in touch. The only problem is it's 3,000 miles away, but I'm sure something can be sorted... Hi all, Now as it appears several people on the list have got copies of the Seconds Of Light EP I'd like to throw the following morsel into the soup & give it a stir. There's no mention of the band or title on the front of the sleeve, is this a good idea? It's easy enough to confuse the customers in our shop at the best of times :) Will it get overlooked by potential buyers because of this or will a tasteless sticker be added before it's released? Damn you Mr. Duke I was going to mention the East River Pipe/Lambchop connection & you beat me to it :) If people out there haven't heard East River Pipe you really should. Sinister: B&S and Felt

( Sorry for the lack of B&S content) Hello there, I've never sent a message to one of these list thingis before but I tought I would to this one. Why ? Well because finally I've found some people who not only like B&S but Felt! (not to mention the Band Of Holy Joy). If anyone has never heard Felt, then I strongly advise you to get some. They are probably the greatest band EVER. Loads of stuff was re-release by either Cherry Red or Creation on dull grey CD's, and I would advise anyone to get one of these as a start. I might even be pesuased to send a Felt "best of" compilation tape to anyone who wants one, 'cos well, I love the band and I want them to get some recognition at last. Sinister: Tigermilk vs. IYFS, etc...

Asking me to choose between Tigermilk and If You're Feeling Sinister is like asking a mother to choose a favorite child. I mean, yes, Tigermilk was the first B&S I heard, and nothing will quite compare to my heart skipping a beat the first time I heard "You're Just a Baby," but "Judy and the Dream of Horses" took the slow burn approach and haunted me for weeks. Maybe we're all a tad partial to the first B&S we heard. Any thoughts? Also, in reference to Neutral Milk Hotel recommendations, what can I say besides this....I saw them in Boston the night after the festival in Providence Nigel mentioned, and it was easily the rockinest live show I have ever attended. After the first song, the packed-in-crowd at the Middle East sat in stunned silence until a woman in the back of the crowd said "Oh my God, this is *so cool.*" And we all just nodded and then the second song kicked in. Their CD, "On Avery Island," was the driving CD of choice this past Spring, and "Song Against Sex" and "Naomi" have quickly become mix tape staples. Check them out. Sinister: goodbyeee

Well Hello All Sadly, I must leave this list mere weeks after joining it. Such is the lot of the freelancer. A word of thanks before I go. It's a nice place you have here. The conversation is the right mix of rambling and to the point. That international flavour is wonderful too, ambrosia to a sad expat. And somehow, alone in the world of fandom, B&S lovers seem able to express themselves in a manner that does not come across as fawning and boring. Enough compliments. If anyone gets this before 6pm West Coast US time, would they mind dropping me a line and letting me know if Mike Alway's new project is a patch on el? Oh and a question before I depart into the hills. I get the sneaking suspicion that a number of listers, indeed, perhaps even the band, may share a common past. So, then, how many of you were, between the years of 1985 and 1989, what was referred to as "cuties"? Oh come on, admit it. There's no shame in it now. My anorak was green and had fuzzy orange lining. Since I won't be around to hear the answer, would anyone care to explain those topsy - turvy years that seem so much a part of B & S, at least to me, to those that weren't around? Oh, actually, one more thing. I've saved this question until last. Erm...would anyone mind taping Tigermilk for us? People should give a listen to Built To Spill (the most recent LP is amazing), Eric Matthews, and Eliot Smith. All from the Pacific Northwest, they have left the whole grunge nonsense behind and made fascinating, beautiful music. Matthews (both albums) has a very Pet Sounds feel to it, with occasional orchestra and horns, Smith has a similar voice but without the lush feel of Matthews.
