Hmmm...I just had a look in the voting booth, and judging by the results, the new album has the best and worst material that B&S have ever done. Are "Spaceboy Dream" and "The Rollercoaster Ride" and "Chick Factor" really THAT bad? I'm a little nervous now. And who are the four/five people voting on the new album? My guess is the Jeepster employees, but I doubt they'll 'fess up. Massive public thanks to Tim and John for figuring out the chords to "Slow Graffiti". I've decided that it's easily one of my top 5 favorite B&S songs. That melody just has it's way with me.... No one ever responded (that I saw) to my question about submitting articles from publications around the world to David's site. David, did you just want to keep it with British articles, or would you be interested in having other articles to put in the "Press Articles" section? Just wondering... this is my first post on the list, so bare with me readers. i do find the acoustic songs of isobel on the treehouse site absolutely wonderful! i mean... i've only heard the current on, "pretty things", but it sent me head over heels and i'd love to hear an album. maybe somebody should talk to here about that? ... anyway, i heard she wrote some new songs on the album, maybe she'll sing more? hmm... i also think belle and sebastian need to release some really terrible records to discourage all those press monsters and the mainstream crowds. what do you think? love; christian jay sienkiewicz ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . I've got that too, on the 30 years of maximum r'n'b video, real quality viewing, specially tailored to meet the demands of the fan of the 70s incarnation of the group, it says somewhere. I liked the WHO even more after seeing that, it's true that they were the ultimate live act. They remind me of those little machines at fairs when I was little, where you could put a coin in and four mop topped frogs would suddenly leap into frantic jerky action for a couple of minutes and then stop. Or was it Pinky and Perky? Anyway, real pop music had never lived up to that early explosive exposure to piggy pop at a formative age until I discovered the WHO on video. The interviews are indeed hilarious, especially Roger pretending to remember WHO was under the stage at the Monterey Festival, and Pete exposing Roger's chummy on stage antics. I like Pete, he seems to think everything he's ever done was crap, bless him. The later stuff's great too, boiler suit or no boiler suit. I think the key to being able to enjoy the later stuff is in learning to love Roger Daltry. The same goes for Led Zep, at first Robert Plant strikes you as a complete prick, but you just have to GET OVER IT! Another good thing about that video is that there's a girl in the audience at Charlton football ground WHO decides to show everyone her bosoms, you can freeze frame it and then go forward frame by frame, jiggle by jiggle. As far as places go, Nottingham's not bad. Some of you may remember it from the famous French film Saturday Night and Sunday Morning. That's more or less what it's like for people with a lively imagination. It does indeed play host to R!O!C!K! C!I!T!Y! and unless things have changed a lot over the last few years, Saturday is R!O!C!K! night, so I think it would make an ideal post gig venue. It was a French film, you know. Karel Reisz, from Germany. Am I right? Sometimes I surprise even myself. McRagtag will know. That Taxi Driver story: I heard the same thing, but with Springsteen playing the part of Neil Diamond. Peter PS: I was lsitening to the World service this morning, a programme about the composer Mussgorsky (?), and the presenter said thet he much preferred the piano version of Pictures At An Exhibition, rather than the later orchestral version by Ravel. Seeing as it was the BBC, he was very polite and said, "that's only an opinion, although I must confess that it's one I hold rather strongly". I thought that was very diplomatic of him. Perhaps we listees should follow his example. Och, the Pastels are shite. Sinister: crooked album review

I just found out that my friend John will be reviewing the LP for Select. I *think* he's a fan (although he's always annoyingly ambivalent about these things), so with luck he'll give it five boxes out of five. If I find out that he doesn't like it (god forbid), could we perhaps bribe him to give it top marks? Does anyone know anything about Nottingham? I've never been there, and nor has anyone else I know. I think Nottingham is home to the legendary Rock City venue, in which case it might well be possible for a little post-concert rock'n'roll action. Sinister: happy valley pond

I'm a bit disappointed that the B&S boat tour is not going ahead, don't you know. I quite fancied doing the stowaway bit and secretly taking spy photos of captain murdoch shivering his timbre. "Land ahoy!", cabin boy jackson would cry, but it wouldn't really be land, it would be a giant sea serpent, ready to scoff the lot of them. But as everyone knows, sea serpents eat people whole. So the tour could continue from the stomach of the sea serpent, if it could be persuaded to let an audience stand on it's tongue without scoffing them as well. Ahh, but there's a problem isn't there? No electricity! I guess the easy answer would be to strap electric eels together in stacks of three, in a sort of plug shape. How did Jonah get out of the big whale? I can't remember. I think he got shoved through the blow hole by Pinocchio. I'm not sure if sea serpents have a blow hole... ....It's a little early in the day for this sort of thing. I have a feeling of general malaise. I always have been a sickly boy. I missed a lot of schooling, which suited me fine cos I hated school. Sinister: B&S in Leeds.

Just phoned up for my tickets in Leeds, and the guy on the ticket line said "who are Belle and Sebastian ? are they indie ?" I had a go at putting him straight, and he said he'd never heard of them, but the box office had been swamped with calls for tickets. All good news really. Can't wait now ! Hi!!!! YYYYIIIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! I've just booked my tickets for the Leeds and Nottingham concerts!!!! Unfortunately, i wont come to London "because of real life". By the way, thinking of Stuart David, i dont understand why we dont talk about the acoustic songs of Isobel, the ones you can listen to on the Treehouse.. Dont you find them absolutely wonderful? They sound like what we call in french "berceuses" (i guess it's the same word in english, isnt it???) Last question about these songs : do you know whether they'll be released on a record, one day? At a wild stab in the dark I'd say no, she's not on the list - this is a complete guess, but it's probably Guyda Armstrong, who's a friend of mine from Edinburgh, she's down in Leeds at the moment doing a PhD in Italian or something.
