Hi, Taking a break from reading Ken Starr's pulp novel to make a few Belle comments (they ARE playing in the background after all...) by numbers: 1. Gawd, the differences between printed lyrics & sung ones, even in "the boy with".... where's the tag lines like "when you've been inside" and "she accepts my confession" ? and "with the boy WITH the arab strap / with the boy from the Arab Strap", "with" meaning he had one, "from" meaning he was the singer from Arab Strap? 2. It's amazing, the lack of comparisons to The Smiths. Maybe I'm late and we've been through all this before. Shit, I'd better check the archives. 3. Katrina, the T-shirts are really beautiful, no matter what anyone says about longing for the past whimsical designs, or the un-imaginative act of putting an album cover directly to shirt. Can anyone amongst us dispute the sheer beauty of the Stow design? 4. Y'all Sinisters are wonderful, and you make my little day. Short n' sweet, I'm done. -Brier

Look I don't want to offend anyone but......(believe me this is always a good way to start a letter) At 18 I'm too young (and not knowledgable in the modern classics,although while under the b&s influence I bought 2 Nick Drake albums) to have heard almost all of the stuff that TWATTYBUSDRIVERWHO'SGOTSTYLE supposedly sounds like. As a result I can listen to it for what it is: one hell of an album. I suggest you do the same and forget about plagerism, even if it is blatent as alledged! Sinister: Mishearing/blanketed in B&S

I know not to entirely trust the lyric sheet, especially after the famous (maybe) "At least they know where to put it" line (who does that descibe on this list?) in "Seeing Other People". In any case, I have a mishearing on the new album. Instead of "As he wets himself for the final time", I thought Stuart sang "As he works himself on a Valentine". A bit nicer since it is not describing a bodily function (unless you like that sort of thing). My "If You're Feeling Sinister" poster hung on the wall above my bed has been falling off. I wake up in the middle of the night blanketed by that very distraught girl's face. It isn't entirely pleasant. Hopefully my "Boy With the Arab Strap" poster will not fall off when I hang it up. If it did fall off, I do not think I would admit that I slept under the boy with the arab strap. I have a reputation to uphold. Hello, friends! On a cheerier note, I am listening to The Boy With The Arab Strap LP for the first time, as I write this. It seems to have made all the silly troubles of the world melt away. Ease Your Feet Into The Sea is making me a very happy boy. Mister Kitchen, I must say the US Vinyl is sounding just beautiful to me, but I will still be placing an order for some of your thicker plastique. = ) Wait, I have to turn the record over. Sinister: what a B&Stard of a week

Hello kittens. do ya like the title, it came to me in a flash of inspiration! It kinda describes my week though; Monday, bought twattybus(i like that) listened to it a lot. Tuesday, drove down to shropshire to see a friend or 3, made them listen to twattybus a lot, "That sounds like simon and garfunkle" one of them sais when It could have been.... gets going. Wednesday, set off for alton towers along v. small country lane with short, ginger emma driving, then crash into a BUS full of children on thier way to school.Ouch we say, yippee say the kids who get to go home, paramedics were nice, as were the police, contrary to my drunken post of a while ago, luckily noone is hurt more than a couple of bruises, but the car is a write off. The bus isnt too bad, perhaps riding busses is not only good but safer than cars. Thursday, get to alton towers, me driving, and guess what, we went on a Rollercoaster ride or lots, oblivion kicks ass, vertical aaargh! And now back here on friday reading all your lovely and not so lovely mail , and then adding to the considerable pile with my own waste of time and bandwidth, sorry. I know it's been a while since I chimed in, but well... I'm just the quiet type. Anyhow, I just got these tour dates from the kids over at Matador and I thought I'd share them since this is the first mention I've seen of opening acts. Strangely this appears to contradict rumors I had heard about the Lily's opening for the entire U.S. tour. Anybody have the full scoop? Katrina? Sinister: London's not let me down

Having been reading about everyones views on the London gig I thought that I would add my views. Despite everyone moaning about the lack of volume, I thought that it was just about perfect, any louder and I'm sure that a lot of the songs would have lost that special quality. Admittedly DirtyDream and Spaceboy Dream can be played at volume, but Belle and Sebastian is such a fragile song (if songs can be fragile) that it needed to be played quietly. And besides, if it had been louder then people wouldn't have needed to let out that huge chorus of ssssssshhhhhhh! Which was pretty cool. I'm another of those people who missed out on meeting you all in the pub, I got to the gig just as the doors were openning so I thought I'd join the cue then, too much traffic on the motorway up. Sorry, hopefully I'll meet you all next time. (Although I have my suspicions that i was queueing in front of doug. Were you talking to a girl about some party that you had been to over the weekend? If so I was the one in front of you in the beige top, with a couple of mates) Am I the only person who fell instantly in love with Isobell during her rendition of Is It Wicked..? And that outfit, very cute. And The last song. Better stop there, my girlfriend wouldn't approve. And as for the celebrety claims to fame, I sat a couple of rows behind George Dawes on level1 and when on a visit to the bar Ian Broudie held the door open for me! Oh and one last point can I just say what a complete wanker the bloke was who was heckling the band from the top left balcony at the start of the show. WankerWankerWankerWankerWanker. Now that should be enough, just don't do it again or I'm sure stuartm will sort you out. (I know its not anyone on the list but i had to get my anger out at them somewhere-sorry) Oh and the very last point (i promise) did anyone tape the concert ( naughty ,naughty if you did but i won't tell if you don't), its just i desperately want a recording of it, and if I can't find one here I doubt i ever will. RE: Sinister: more rubbish for you to delete

A few observations on the new LP. I can't believe that no-one has noticed that the recorder solo on 'The Boy With The Arab Strap' is a dead ringer for part of the banjo line in Flatt and Scruggs' "Salty Dog Blues", only slowed down. Also that the story read out on "Spaceboy Dream" is a direct lift from chapter twenty of "The Brothers Karamazov", only with the words changed. Talking of Spaceboy Dream, has anyone noticed the similarity between that and the D.A.F. classic 'Kebab Traume'? It's uncanny. Has anyone noticed that if you take the CD, hold it printed side up, then turn it upside down, it looks just like other CDs of the same size? Also, that if you put the CD in your CD player and press 'play' then music comes out? I think they stole this idea from another band. I think it might have been the Bee Gees, but I'm not sure. I have a number of burning questions about the band. Among these are: - why are they called Belle and Sebastian when there are more than two of them in the band? - are they singing about a cat in the song 'A Century Of Elvis'? Or is it a piece of green vegetable matter? - is it possible for anyone to use the search facility on the archives, or only individuals with brains? If anyone has any old or embarrassing photographs of the band, especially ones which involve nudity, or which were taken with zoom lenses through windows to invade the band's private moments, could you copy them for me? I'll refund the cost of copying and postage, like a photocopy of the piece of bogroll which I found when sneaking into a lav that Stuart M had just used.
