I'm sure I'm the only person sad enough to scroll down the technosphere posting, but I did and was astonished to find this among all the other rogering: "Boy With Arab Strap mated with keith (ID 716055) but conception didn't take place." Now loving a band is fair enough, but isn't this taking it a bit too far? It was great to finally meet Keith, and numerous other people it would take too long to mention - even the foul-mouthed Mick Cooke (TM) was in meet 'n' greet mode, which was special. I was pleased to discover that absolutely no-one looks like I'd imagined (though Liz Daplyn reminds me totally of Miranda Richardson, which can only be a good thing), and every time I read a post from someone who was there who I didn't meet, it seems a real shame. Hey ho. I'm off to HMV to buy my third ...Arab Strap today - it's for my mum, who's crazy about the B&S experience. Any news on the midweek chart position? Sinister: Liverpool Girls Beat All the Rest

I enjoyed that seagull/eagle mishearing. I find it strangely erotic. As usual, I've been trying really hard to mishear things on TWATTYBUS, but the best I've come up with is "Has he ever seen Gandhi?" from Seymour Stein. I thought maybe Mister Jackson was criticising Mister Stein for being a sleeping partner type executive at Dreamworks, but then I remembered that that was Lenny Waronker, not Seymour Stein. One or two other things that have arisen over recent weeks: 1) Belle and Sebastian have played a festival, the BAM Festival in Barcelona. 2) Officially it was a 1000 capacity venue, but I think there were about twice that many people, all packed in like terribly sophisticated sardines. It didn't really bother me, because I was hanging from a gargoyle, kicking my stumpy little legs in time to the music, but it was dead crowded. 3) It was free. I would say that, at a push, 20% of the people knew who B&S were. But as far as I could see (from my lofty vantage point) hardly anybody buggered off half way through. Which speaks volumes about B&S's magnetic charms. Either that or the enormous crush of people anyone wanting to escape would have had to negotiate. 4) Stevie sang "Seymour Stein" in a really thick Scotch accent, like Mister McKay in "Porridge". Paul reminds me of Mister Barraclough from the same programme. I remind myself of Lenny Godber (in my dreams). 5) I agree that big concerts are pish. I can't think of a single good one I've been to. And they're dead expensive. But that's life, isn't it? The other day I noticed that BB King has recorded loads of live albums in prisons. Now there's an idea! But I have a feeling that wee Isobel wouldn't get out with all her faculties intact. And Stuart would probably get bummed. Still, it would be worth it. Sinister: Ease your feet

A few highlights (?) of my trip to London on Monday. 1) Spaceboy Dream...bass blew me away...superb...I hadn't heard any of the new stuff as I didn't buy the LP until Tuesday and it's just not the same on the album. 2) Seeing that Sean Hughes still likes every band I've ever liked..or is that the other way round ? And me just hours earlier having bought his debut novel...freaky. 3) Having to laugh at Keef *The Knuckles* Watson getting lairy with the bloke in front of us who had paid a tenner to treat us to a few Townshendesque renditions of B&S songs. On seeing that noone particularly was amused/interested he then proceeded to talk to his bird through half the show. CU Next Tuesday. By the way, Nice to meet you Keith. 4) After being generally disappointed with the show, although delighted to have just been there, we went to Plastic People....fucking crap. Sorry Duke, should have listened to your advice. Apologies for not piping up and saying hello to the listees that were stood either side of us in PP. I don't know who you were, but we were sat on the bouncy seats by the bar. Again, sorry but we were totally shagged after a days shopping, pissed as farts after a days drinking, and hiding from a rather dodgy looking bloke who had taken a shining to my Kate and looking at me as though he was going to ease his feet into my teeth. Oh and I'm a bit shy for introductions. 5) Sitting in Picadilly 24 hour McDonalds for 2 hours drinking the same cup of coffee, watching the local fruitcakes screaming at the security cameras...best fun of my entire holiday. 6) Abusing Buckingham Palace at 5 o'clock in the morning, cos they wouldn't let me use the Queens John....not bad on 2 pints of Strongbow and 4 Diamond Whites. 7) Calling the bloke in Victoria Station a CU Next Tuesday cos he wouldn't let us use our tickets before 9:30 and charged an extra £20....Fucker. 8) Joosters are fucking horrible. hello everyone i live in northern california, where the land is lovely and the weather is exquisite, but the record shops are, shall we say, lacking -- as none of them have gotten TBWTAS in stock yet and it's been two days. and that shit is just unacceptable. i share the angst of my fellow subscriber from Fresno. anyway... i'm going out East for the B*S shows in Philly and NY. has anyone organized any kind of get-togethers before/after either of these shows? i'd like to coo along with some other fans, that would be delightful. and am i a complete buffoon, or has someone already revealed who will be supporting on these East Coast dates? yours in buffoonery, kim _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Hi folks... There's a nice little drawing of B & S onstage in the "Goings on About Town" pages of this week's NEW YORKER. Don't laugh... I originally learned about B & S from favorable review blurbs in this very magazine... Anyhow, since it only covers a week's worth of concert dates at a time in its actual listings, getting a picture almost 2 months ahead of time must mean something. Sinister: Elliott Smith and other things

Hi happy girls and happy boys, Can anyone tell me the name of the guitarist who join Elliott Smith in London (he was certainly with him for the other gigs) ? Was he Sam Coomes from Quasi? I also forgot the title of the song this guy sang (just after Division Day). 20 days to wait before the gig in Strasbourg... So far away so close. Are some of you listees coming in Strasbourg ? On october 5th, Belle & Sebastian are supposed to do a radio session for the Bernard Lenoir Show, on France Inter. You will be able to listen to this session on the web : http://www.eutelsat.org/radio/1012.html But you can also receive France Inter in UK with a "normal" radio I think.
