Hi ya moron ! (sorry i'm in a old Holden' mood) well that's me moron, no doubt... I can't find who nor when was said that french TV "Paris Premiere" will air B&S show... except that in my mind it was this morning so I gave a buzz to my mother at 10.30 to plug the VCR and all i have is this nice teleshopping 120mn tape. IF EVER it is not too late, please remind me which time and day and year it will happen. GOD be clement !!! Sinister: scotland late march: anything going on?

...so my fiancee and I are going to Scotland for our honeymoon. We'll be touching down on March 24th and dividing our time between Glasgow, Edinburgh and the highlands. I know it's probably too soon to ask, but is anything cool going on that week -- shows, picnics, etc.? I've heard rumors from Megan of a Looper show, and I know that Bis were *supposed* to play on 3/26 but cancelled. We could easily content ourselves with wandering aimlessly round town all week, but if anything special's happening we'd love to know. Sinister: "Twee"

"Twee" means sickly-sweet. Anyone got a cure for being overstuffed but underfed? Last night I got served half a chicken and was ravenous but as soon as I'd had a few bites I felt like being sick. Sinister: Stumps! Stumps!

I hope this Mercury Rev album you all tricked me into buying is a grower... Rod could overcome his work/Roddcam problem by attaching a Rodddcam to his helmet, so that we could all see what kind of things Rodddd gets up to all day. This idea was inspired by miners' lamps, as eagle-eyed listees may have spotted. Of course, Roddddd would have to carry his computer around in a plastic carrier bag, otherwise it would be completely pointless. What a major pop event this evening! The queen of the sixties girl group without the group sound in a head to head clash with Stumps Murdoch, the Glen Hoddle of pop! I bet he'll be as happy as a sandboy, especially as it coincides with Glasgow City Council's decision to unveil a new monument, the Stuart Murdoch Cream Cheese Tarzan Swing, next to the Jim Kerr Jam Tart Go-Kart, in the middle of George Square. Should be good. I voted for B&S in the Brits, but I like Billie equally well. Who likes fat organ grinder Charles Earland? I do, he does a splendid version of the Carpenters classic, "We've Only Just Begun", a real organ and conga propelled wah-wah barnstormer. The Looper kudos contest has gotten off to a great start, Jake/Kenny storming out in front by refusing to copy it before anyone had even asked him to. My memory may be a little hazy, but I seem to recall that he'd already taped a track or two for someone or other a while back. Extra points! I feel that a hefty prison sentence would be in order....extra points for anyone who does anything really illegal from now on. Who stole it from the Sub Pop cupboard? That must have been illegal. Sinister: colour my world with the chaos of trouble

okay sinisterites... i tried to post this yesterday, but the list rejected it on account of some mixup with my email address, and i got an automated message about my illegality... now i've only posted once ever, being intimidated by all the witty words sprinkled about on this list, and i thought, are they going to send me to the sinister nursery?? so i emailed honey and things were set right... i am forever grateful, and happy to be sinister again, and now i will tell you what i meant to say... [tentatively venturing into the sinister world -- be nice!] kimmy (a more vocal listee) made me promise to write and say that we spent the other night in our campus coffeehouse (we're volunteer workers!) coloring pictures torn out of coloring books with lovely crayola crayons, in between making coffees and hot chocolates and teas for people. i colored a picture of a bus for her -- it is purple even though buses don't usually come in purple. they should. oh, yes, and we made the coffeehouse patrons listen to TBWTAS and a tindersticks album, which i think makes perfect coffeehouse music. well, perhaps Rachel's makes for very good music-to-drink-coffee-by, too, but alas... anyway, here's to hoping this post goes through, and i hope all you kids have a fab time at the evie sands gig/meetup! take care, xoxo, marie +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". Hello playmates, Once again I've elected to compensate for the lack of imagination and wit in my posts by making extensive reference to Another End Of Year Pollzzzzzz... This time from that bastion of all things cutting-edge and avant-bonkers, the Bible of Pan-Global Shrieking Cacophony, 'The Wire'. Of course, being 'The Wire', this is no Mercuryrevcatatoniashovethemanicsintherenoonewilltwig affair - it's all comically obscure esoterica - Min-Xiao Fen, anyone ? Arnold Dreyblatt's 'Nodal Excitation' ? 'Little Birds Have Fast Hearts' by the Die Like A Dog Quartet ? Never off the Dansette, that last one. Anyways, buried amongst all these unfathomable lists the mag gives space to individual writers to rave and rant about '98's highs and lows. Douglas Wolk, in his 'Pros' column, mentions 'new Belle and Sebastian on Virgin Airlines' (we know all about that), but also 'Kiki & Herb butchering "Fox In The Snow"'. Now what's that all about ? Is it this mythical remix we've heard so much about ? Some kind of BounceCore jack-hammer atrocity that's providing a soundtrack to Vicks-abuse in Ghent and Liege ? I can almost hear 'read it in a book tonight' being time-stretched into gaseous oblivion as I type. ::shudder:: [If you're at all interested in this issue of 'The Wire', it's the Jan 99 one - probably only available off-the-shelf in Rough Trade now - and features a cover photo of David Sylvian, cleverly distorted so that you don't notice that The Most Beautiful Man In Pop 1982 now has a *beard*. I nearly cried. ] I did do a quick archive-search re: the above; 'Kiki', disappointingly, turned up no references to Pebble Mill's finest chanteuse, while 'Herb' produced a cautionary tale involving Tag, Susannah, drugs and Flowered Up. I bloody love reading the archives, me. Beats working. Sinister: Young Man's Blues

And one more thing about Modern Rock Song... It should have been 'riding buses' instead of 'writing songs'. It just sounds better. And maybe Mr. True would have been a bit nicer in his review. And Keith...(and Tag) Sorry, poor word choice on my part. I was feeling bit pissy, and when i'm in, or starting, a petty argument, I tend to overstate things. (and it was petula who made me laugh, not a jessica) And so to my story about 16 year olds, The WHO, B&S.... (Erase now if your easily bored.) You ever see someone or maybe what seems to be a small group of someones who like to stick together and think to yourself, "I wonder if they like B&S?" or "I wonder if they even know about B&S? Maybe I should do something about it. Like slip them a tape or something." For some reason this only happens with 16 year old girls for me. I see a girl, and I think, "If she heard Expectations, than her life would be that much better and she would sure to go on to do many great and wondrous things..." You're a star and you'll go far. Well there was this girl from North Salem. I was working in her neighborhood checking peoples wells for some reason too complicated to go into. This whole thing lasted a few weeks. A few days into the job I'm checking this well, and I see this girl getting off the school bus. All clunky shoes, nice haircut and one of those "Manhattan" bags. If this was lower Manhattan, I probably wouldn't have noticed, but here on the edges of rural suburbia I took notice. Where did SHE come from? I have this weakness for the stranded hipsters in the country. Small town isolation, walks along the railroad tracks, swimming in the reservoir, long lonely nights spent in your room...The Smiths, etc. And I have a weakness for the whole teenage experience. Something gnawing at me about it, like I didn't take full advantage of it. I'm trying to make this short, so let's see... I keep running into her over the next few weeks. I run into her having pizza with her dad. The next day she's outside making movies with her friends. A few of them are wearing those Afghan head things that some of the kids on the IFYS artwork are wearing. These guys must be shown the wonder and beauty of B&S. Every time I check her house, I always whistle B&S, or sometimes sing "she's a honey with a following of innocent boys..." Than New Years Eve day. I'm checking all the houses for the last time. I'm thinking, wouldn't it be weird if I saw her again. Kismet or something else I don't believe in. As I'm checking the neighbors' well, I see/hear this noisy old pontiac firebird pull into her drive and this rather awkward boy in a trench coat get out and go inside. She comes running out to get something out of her car and scurries back. I'm about to leave her place when her father comes out to have a chat about underground water levels, well drilling, etc. He's a geologist, you see. And out she comes with her date, that awkward looking boy in a trenchcoat. This all makes me very happy for some reason. At least its not A "Jordan K..." type. (like from My So Called Life) I get back in my car and watch them pull out for their night of fun. I turn on the radio and out of reflex I just turn it all the way up. Its The WHO - Young Man's Blues from Live at Leeds. So perfect I almost cried. At the moment all I wanted was to be 16 (or maybe 17) and own a old noisy firebird and live in North Salem. With a Belle and Sebastian sticker on the back of my car. Or maybe a WHO one. (Instead of TOOL. Poor girl.) I go home to see Shilough and Larissa have arrived at my house and have started a fire and wine bottles are open and the stilton and grapes are out. Van Morrison is playing on the stereo, and life at 25 starts to feel good again. Some of you may remember Shilough and Larissa from my Boston/Philly concert stories. Did I mention they got engaged? Now the whole world knows. So should I send the poor girl a tape? She probably think I'm some sort of freak. Wishing my computer cd player had more bass, so that this More Rockers CD would sound better. drumntreble.
