Sinister: New Belle and Sebastian Band Website

Hello all, This is my first mail to Sinister! Just wanted to let you know that I have put the newly-updated B&S band website online. It's still at the old URL: http://www.myspace.co.uk/belleandsebastian/ I say it's been updated, but it's not entirely up to date. I still have to get stuff from three of the band, but that'll probably happen sometime soon (in the same way that the sun will implode soon). There's photos, news, top10s (contributions welcome- check out Keith Watson's top10 of 70's Who songs), links and all that stuff, plus contributions from band members, excluding the three that couldn't be arsed- sorry that should read 'haven't got round to it'- yet. Anyway, the general plan is to keep it updated on a regular basis. And to get contributions from you lot. sorry - i'm sending this again as it just arrived in my inbox without an end. dunno why it did that. if it happens again, i'll leave it as it is. Hello everybody, Nice to have the day off work after Tigermilking. No, I didnt do a sickie, (no need to Katrina - read on) or anything like that. I walked into work, and my boss told me I looked pale. I said, "Well, I feel kinda rough," which was the truth. I was dead tired - it took me nearly two hours on the N18 nightbus to get home. So she sent me home! Bless her little cotton socks, if she was wearing some. Oh, bless her anyway. Like the journey Marcus had on his way in to Tigermilking, I had to side step violent arguments, avoid the gaze of hustlers and keep my wits about me on a MONDAY night. I wondered if Friday night could be any safer by being populated with people having fun, but that would probably magnetise the bad, seedy side of Soho by 100% as well. Well, Tigermilking for me was a safe haven for a good few hours. I saw plenty of familiar faces, faces from gigs and faces I couldnt exactly place (me thinks I will have to make the next picnic). I think Paul (?) from Track and Field was there too. If it was him he didnt have his glasses on. Lots of happy popkids, and ironic metallers. It felt like the Bowlie club nights. Everywhere a happy face. Some unexpected tunes they played: Kylie - Confide in Me Guns 'n' Roses - Sweet Child O Mine and Paradise City (the latter was played so people could rock out and win goodies) Kraftwerk - The Model (one of two songs I knew ALL the lyrics to yesterday. the other was Primal Scream's Come Together - I'm hopeless with lyrics) Motorhead - Ace of Spades Some more expected tunes I enjoyed: Super Furry Animals - Hometown Unicorn B&S - Seeing Other People Pulp - Mishapes Stone Roses - I Wanna Be Adored David Bowie - Starman + more I cant recall. And the video projections did indeed show previously unknown B&S footage (they were in a studio at one point), Pavement, Buzzcocks, and a vast amount of Suede was heard and shown. I noticed that as I'm not overly keen on Suede. I can't remember the names of the people I met, only someone called Nicola. She was stuck on The Electric Sound of Joy from the Earworm Records cd compilation. So I thoroughly enjoyed riding the bus home early from work today. My friend from Blackburn had sent me a tape of his band, Tom Paulin and it's easily said they're influenced by the B&S sound (I also know his other reference points - Sonic Youth for one). His music on my walkman and the morning had made me realise I'd forgotten how peaceful 10:30am can be. There are lots of things I dont get to witness whilst at work. Hitchhikers wanting to disappear up the M1. Old folks ruling the streets. Schoolboys skiving. Brent Cross shopping centre breathing easy. Perfect atmosphere for my ever-worrying mind. When I got home and finally fell asleep after watching a previously taped Louis Theroux episode, (the Black Activists) I woke up to Gram Parsons singing "Hot Burrito #1" which was Emmylou Harris's choice for Music of the Millenium. Everything had turned out just right. It always does. I'll read you all later, Amos PS Marcus - I'm going to see Godspeed on Thursday after seeing Princess Anne in the morning. Sinister: Rolling back the prices

Just so you know, they are selling Tigermilk in Asda! Odd place to see it, really. It's 11.99 and it's at no.52 in their chart. Which might not mean anything at all. I think it might chart a bit higher in the proper chart at the end of the week. Finally got the Pernice Brothers album 'Overcome by Happiness' at the weekend, you really should all get it, it's wonderful. That is all for now, I have spoken. Popkids, My friend Hannah and I took a bus to the next little town away from hertford yesterday, and on the way back an old man fell asleep on her shoulder and dribbled. I havent laughed so much since I saw John Otway on the Glastonbury coverage, shagging the floor with a drum machine down his pants. I've been wanting to mention John Otway for weeks - did anyone else see this? I laughed for about ten minutes, and then laughed some more. Then I went to bed and couldn't sleep because I kept bursting into fits of giggles. Theres nothing better for a sad head, is there? Than *really* laughing. I've been wanting to mention Hefner too - they're. If you havent bought anything of theirs, why not? I was watching something quite late on bbc2 last night, where they said radio one layer so many sounds over the actual records and the djs actual voices, you're actually hearing "Go, go now, go to the record shop and buy the new Boyzone single. get in the car. go" about three layers in. Is that why I've been craving after Steps? I expect Pete Waterman knows all about subliminal messages. My photo has now been added to the sinister photo page - fame at last! it's blurry and arty, and it looks like I'm not wearing any clothes. Which I am, I'd like to add. Sinister: search;smut

nobody's mentioned it as of the most received digest sister girl here received... Soooooo.... am i the only one who almost wet her pants in shock-recognition stylee last night, when i was watching 120 minutes (shh, not a word to anyone, it was a one time thing, i promise) and saw the Pavement video and noticed That One Dude, Not Steve Malkmus, But a Bassist or Guitarist Or Something (called Scott or Mike or Brad or something), sportin the Study at Stow t--shirt? Yea-ha. At first I thought, "Naw, couldn't be, it's just another ill-fitting top in the same hideous shade of blue" but after a couple more glances realised it WAS SO. Damn them, you just *know* this will just catch on, Pavement being the arbiters of style for America's Youth like they are. (I am pretty sure they have a lot to do with capri pants coming back in fashion....) Now EVERYBODY's gonna have one. *SIGH* so... that's it really. but oh, one other thing I always wondered, whenever I go to the Sinister Search engine, why is it that instead of showing something such as, "Books; favorite" it's always cued up to search for things like, "boobs;elves" or "Isobel;farts" and once (i SWEAR!) "lesbians;underwear"??? is this a joke, like part of something Paul's done for a laugh and it's MEANT to be that way or are these actual searches you filthy minded little scamps are doing?? Really!! Sinister: london has let me down again

hi there all you lovely people, went to the tigermilk launch at trash last night, which was a rather odd experience, and so here it is in detail. i arrived at tottenham court road tube at 10:25, and stood around waiting for natasha to turn up. within half a minute a suited man had saddled up along side me and asked 'excuse me, are you gay?' or something along those lines, to which i replied 'i'm flattered that you ask, but no'. i was a little shocked by this - i'm not used to being approached in public. maybe it's my wildean locks... a minute later i felt someone forcibly poking me in the chest, and was scared. 'shit,' i thought, thinking that it was the gentleman from earlier returning to try again. but no - it was drunken matt from the picnic a week ago, and he was coming to trash as well. which was nice, even though at first i didn't recognise him because he'd washed his hair. then natasha turned up, looking stunning, and we went to a bar to have a drink with drunken geoff from the picnic, who was looking very sexy with his missing button on his red shirt. probably ripped off by some eager young girl, and who could blame her with geoff's angelic good looks? anyhow, we all went to trash, where we met the lovely miss vicky, two marks, jim, martin and a few other people (sorry if i haven't mentioned you) and a good time was had by all (as far as i know), with the first three quarters of tigermilk being played at the start of the night, and selected b&s tracks all night long. i'd never danced to 'dylan in the movies' before, but we all did last night, and it was great. oh, and they had a video wall with videos of the band. i'd never seen them before, and now i think stuart m is the most beautiful man in the world - wow, he's just SO stunning. wow. i left around two, and that's when things started to get weird... walking through soho to get to trafalgar square for the night bus, i got asked if a was 'looking for a lady', which made me feel bad - am i so ugly that prostitutes see me as a potential client? then somebody came up and stood in front of me shouting in a foreign language that i didn't understand, waving an unlit cigarette around before calmly saying 'by the way, do you speak english?' which made me rather worried, so i didn't answer and walked past (hastily), ignoring him when he thumped me in the back. then when i finally got out of soho (by which time i was shit scared) a police man started shouting abuse at me when i asked where trafalgar square was, threatening to arrest me and so on. which wasn't nice - i thought (in my naive little world) that police men were supposed to help. obviously not. nasty. eventually i found the bus stop, and i'd just missed the N139, and so i had to wait another hour before it came again. i was approached by a legion of semi-unconcious italian tourists asking me in various languages, and with various degrees of politeness, for a cigarette. and when i told them that i didn't smoke, some of them got rather aggressive. which was not nice at all. in the end (around 3:45) the bus came, and i got on. the only other people there were two dodgy looking men who were staring at me all journey long, and waited until i got off before they did. so i walked home from the bus stop the long but well lit way, and eventually they stopped following me. hearing 'dylan in the movies' in the club hadn't helped - 'it's not your money, boy...' by the time i got into bed i was a nervous wreck, and i kind of wished i hadn't given up smoking, so i'd be able to calm my nerves. oh well. i didn't get to sleep immediately, so i put on the beautiful lord antony (that and winter wooksie are my current faves) and drifted off. ...but it was all worth it, all the trouble and all the uncontrolled racing away of the heart beat. i had a great time in the club, seeing all the lovely sinister people i'd met at the picnic again. and seeing the video for 'there is a light and it never goes out' was a highlight as well. next time, though, there is NO WAY that i'm going to walk through soho all alone at three in the morning - shit, if it's that scary on a monday night i hate to think about what it's like on a friday or saturday... anyway, hope this hasn't bored you all. sorry if it has. looking forward to seeing some of you again at godspeed you... on thursday, or at the poetry cafe on friday. bye for now, love Marcus XXX ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". It was a bizarre atmosphere, but they put on an unbelievable rock show, replete with beacoup beer bottles and enough cigarettes to kill the average human being. In short: buy any Wilco album you can get your hands on because they will not disappoint (Summerteeth included). Thats my two cents. Ok, enough rambling. I finally have a pic up on the Sinister page, but I still don't forsee that doing alot to help my sorry standing in the list crush polls. Actually, unless I turn into Hugh Grant overnight I can't see anything helping me very much. "I yam what I yam" as Popeye once said, but thats a bit harder to say when you're built like Olive Oil (is it really spelled like that?).
