IŽm sick and drifting...got food poison on the plane back from London and Icelandic reality strikes me. I had a *wonderful* time in London, participating in the Sinister and non-Sinister things.. I want to wink the people I met and say hello..(Giita waving her hand with a smile) Some people say that the All TomorrowŽs Sinister Parties was better than the real thing..it was Bowlie without the bands and sand.. I didnŽt do much shopping(exept records..), didnŽt go to any markets and went to no museums.. We spent our time drinking, dancing and going underground :) Thank you. Sinister: The Desparate Things You Made Me Do

Okay, thanks to honey, I'm back in the saddle when it comes to this list. I went and saw Magnetic Fields on Saturday Night in Oberlin, OH. Having just moved back to the Cleveland area after a 6 year stopover in Bowling Green, I'm having a hard time making friends because all of my old friends have long since bolted and I really don't have anything in common with them anyway. The point is that I keep seeing the same kids at the same shows that I go to and I am just to shy to make friends. I kind of made a friend on Saturday at the Magnetic Fields show, but then the only friend I do have right now cast shadow on our meeting claiming that maybe he was interested in me on a more crushlike basis, which I couldn't believe because no guy has ever had a crush on me before and to be honest he was kind of cute and too beautiful for me (just like most of the girls I fall for.) I saw a girl that I found captivating at both the Magnetic Fields and June of 44 shows, but again, I was too shy to say a word. Anyway, you are probably wondering where I am going with this. Word has it that there is a strong contingent of Ohio based sinisterites. Maybe some of you love indie pop just like I do. Maybe you would like to get together and go to shows or coffee or something. It's just a thought. I'm not alone out there am I? Sinister: went the day (and night) well...

It's been so long... The last few weeks have been a dark journey through the soul. Not a particularly interesting one, but it does get relevant towards the end, so bear with me. Two weeks off work in August resulted in me unsubscribing for a while, and on my return I was horrified to discover that my devotion to the cause had severely lessened. And I remained unsubscribed. Previously I had only to listen to Slow Graffiti to be transported to Bowlie back in April, and to be once more gazing at Stuart and Isobel all bathed in a blue wash, a tear in my eye. The breakdown of LLPJ would have me clapping like a loon in my front room, the ghosts of Tigermilking past crowding my eyes and ears. (I even found that by stamping hard near enough to my hifi I could make the CD skip in true authentic fashion). Century of Fakers would take me back every time to 1997, lying in the bath, Mark & Lard on the graveyard shift playing the latest EP from everyone's newest favourite band. But then something changed (for a while) and a still sad music of apathy began in my heart. The fire was out. UNTIL... Last Saturday. It was something about Nick D's good looks and dancing feet; the Paula 'n' Brendan Comedy Explosion; Archel's chocolate fingers (a heroic last ditch attempt to keep things good and smutty); the genius of moving to the pub to get out of the rain - and then sitting *outside* the pub; Carsmile's smile and Trouser's trousers. Suddenly everything made such *sense*. Marcus recently wrote: "the more and more sinister people I meet and talk to and get to know a bit, the more I get convinced that there is really something rather special here." and he's right. It's like piecing a jigsaw together, but we're working from the inside out. And there is no edge. I suppose the point is: it was everybody at the picnic and everybody at Tigermilking that made it brilliant - even people not on the list dancing themselves stupid to another of Mixmaster Sam's exclusive B&S scratch remixes. This is the spirit of the thing, and why it reaffirmed my faith in B&S and a whole lot more. So lets make the next one even bigger and better. Everyone come. Everyone. I'm starting to sound like an NME journalist now (i.e. completely incoherent), so I'll stop. But just time for a quick B&S related incident, in the spirit of the list of old. It would appear that they've been playing IYFS on pretty heavy rotation in the Notting Hill Retro Clothes Shop (Ladies) (I was buying 6" silver stack heels). But curiously on a noticeably fast speed - presumably to check that crazy retro vibe, for it turns out Stuart M. at the wrong speed sounds a *lot* like Nancy Sinatra. I'm off to phone a friend, Chris, cos there are times when tea and sympathy just ain't enough. Lots of love and cheaply bottled sentiment, J. D. Sinister: Bunnies, bums and boogie

In years to come, I will say that Sinister was responsible for beginning my decline. Never in my entire life, even during those lazy hazy years of student depravity, had I spent twelve whole hours on the booze. Until Saturday, that is... On Sunday, walking dazedly about the streets of London, snippets of the night before gradually returned to me. Can it be true that I spent a whole £1.50 on a yellow fluffy rabbit and then shoved it in the face of anybody who crossed my path? Did I really have a feel of Spanners' (firm, in case you're interested) arse? And where on earth did that big purple bruise on my own fair behind come from? If anybody has the answer to this last question, please let me know - it's troubling me slightly, not least when I sit down. I wish that every single Sinisterine could have been there to pogo along to Teenage Kicks with us (somebody counted 57 people at the picnic, which means about 5% of us were there if my maths to be believed). I had such a lovely time and met so many lovely people that I now have a superfluity of warm and fuzzy feelings which rise to the surface whenever I think about the weekend. Not much else to say, except a hy-uge thanks to all who organised. Oh yeah, and I missed University Challenge again last night due to stupid schedulers who put it on at the same time as Eastenders and my video conking out on me. Ho hum. And one other thing. I accidentally switched on Xfm this morning. The first words I heard were "Coming up in the next few minutes we've got Stereophonics and Red Hot Chilli Peppers". That made me laugh. Sinister: Why don't they make Golden Nuggets no more?

I had a dream last night and Gerry Adams was in it. He seemed to be quite a nice bloke, actually, although I don't think I'll base any political opinions on this. All Tomorrows Picnics was pretty cocking fantastic! It's fun being able to put faces to people's names, and I ended up with lots of food that wasn't mine. Upon entry to Tigermilking I was given a packet of Love Hearts which contained a series of rather forward propositions like "Kiss Me", "Marry Me" and "Bend Me Over Baby". These proved rather embarrassing. Round here we have buses with Love Hearts saying "Kidderminster" on them. Hooray! If Peter Miller wants to know what a townie is he should visit Kidderminster where townies (locally known as Kiddy Rappers) make up about 96 per cent of the population. Bastards. A few words of advice for anyone thinking of travelling on the London Underground. The red lever next to the door isn't a support for drunk people, it's meant to be for emergencys. This often proves confusing for people from Preston where, aboard the Preston Donkey Express, they have a similar lever which they pull to have a chat with the driver about their dyke skeez. It's a good job nothing like that happened in London, isn't it? Mind you, Starry Sarah did dance to Slow Grafitti with me in a techno stylee, so I'll forgive her. Not that she pulled the emergency stop lever on the tube or anything. Oh no. Sorry, sarcasm's the lowest form of wit. Yesterday I bought the All Seeing I album and it's got some pretty good tunes, although I don't think it would be anything without Jarvis. I like the spot-the-celebrity CD sleeve, it reminded me of the Bowlie Weekender. This morning I was woken by a couple of Jehovah's witnesses - Big Loud Womaan and Little Mousey Man - who told me about the love of God. just to clear this up, i think... isnt it the same tracks on new paths to helicon and ten rapid, helicon 1 and 2? if youre thinking of the bowlie set that would be part 1, which isnt as good as part 2, but that split second of silence towards the end before it all crashes in at once has to be one of their finest moments. i dont think this has got anything to do with the chemikal underground experts, neither ...helicon or ten rapid were released on the label. i hope i didnt come across too pedantic or clever, im sure someone can find some glaring errors in the above. and in the time it took me to type this someone will have imparted this information in a much more eloquent manner anyway. i have the angelica radio session, does that make me a better person? the new arab strap album is a thing of rare beauty... the matador compilation is worth it for the unreleased mogwai track, and the live version of sugarcube... but the carve up compilation is stunning from start to end, even the mudhoney and (cough) motorpsycho tracks sound okay in context, honest. couldnt find the new bitter springs album. bah. from tjohn. +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". Hi Sinistereens, Nice to hear that all the Alt. Tomorrow's Parties events passed off in truly Sinister pissed-up style & apparently without casualties. Sadly I couldn't attend any due to (i) W:(O:(R:(K & (ii) a train-spotting trip to France this weekend. Seemingly no longer obligatory B&S content: I crave to hear some new Belle & Sebastian music, or to be absolutely honest, songs written & sung by Stuart Murdoch specifically. So hurry up & release some soon, please. I'll buy two copies. I have bought some records recently but although I like most of the Death In Vegas, the other stuff, particularly Arab Strap, just passes me by without any of it sticking in my ear, so to speak. Which is NOT nice, as we're going to see Messrs Moffat & Middleton on Saturday & I now suspect they'll be dull. The best CD I purchased recently was the (don't laugh) remastered first Roxy Music album. Beautifully packaged, fantastic sound & the music's bloody good, too. Not just because of reminiscing about being 16 & all that glitter first time round, either. I'm only talking about the first one, mind - it all went horribly Pete Tong soon after. Tina just brought me a mouse for my tea but I've had to decline, having dined sufficiently already. Sally returns from her retail therapy trip to Noo Yawk tomorrow: if any NYC listees saw a small & pretty person in a B&S bus T brandishing a red hot credit card I hope they were kind to her. Murdoch/Jagger connections: that bit at The Union Chapel when he leered "You wouldn't want my trousers to fall down now, would you?"
