Last Good Day of the Year ------------------------- One last bright young day before autumn closes in on us ... so it is I'm playing this Cousteau single I found in MVE. I had The Magnetic Fields, The Radar Bros, The Montgolfier Bros, Gastr del Sol, Cousteau, Spearmint and Will Oldam on my list and he clearly thought it was a winner so maybe someone should get Barry Hogan to give me a call. Sinister: Toronto slagging and Beach Boys blagging

Guten Tag. Wie geht's meine friendens? Or something. I have recently been to said Canadian town of infamous hospitality recently and tried out some Toronto slagging for myself. Unfortunately I found the white stilletos and short skirts didn't quite suit me. But the people I met there were extremely welcoming, and accepted a couple of weirdos from out of town with open arms. Obviously I can only defend the people I met and not the whole city itself so I have exceedingly good things to say about Emily, Debbie, Teri, Laura, Diane and Kevin and probably others when I was too inebriated or hungover to remember names. Anyway onto things I need. Ummm... has anyone a copy of the Smile sessions by those Boys of the Beach that I can steal, borrow or get a copy of please? I will return the favour if anyone does. Now to disguise that shameless list exploitation with prose of the most testicular origins. I would like to belatedly contribute The Partridge Family as an example of mums in pop. Though I do think of her as a bad example to other ensuing family's in pop, especially making her two year old son who should have been in potty training at that time play the drums to David Cassidy. Cruel. And not even Mr Jackson or the Mr Hanson of mmm...Mattessons fame actually put there kids through the ignomy and embarrassment of playing with them and dancing like mum's do at wedding. Very cruel. And anyone who dismisses The Partrdges as made for TV fare then I will debate you with Monkees. In fact there As We Go Along is one of the finest songs in umm all the lands. Or something. And I'm delighted to see the wit of Richard Stilgoe OBE gracing these pages. If we can forgive his conspiring with that Lloyd-Webber character we can delight in his Radio 4 appearances, his humourous tunes like Pam Eyres to music, his status as High Sheriff of Surrey and the fact that his name is an anagram of "godlier than Christ", "has erotic girls" & "grope this hairy crotch". What a guy! Unfortunately I do not know his TV work from the early 80's sufficiently to answer Mike's trivia question though. Do you ever get the feeling you shouldn't have started something? Anyway, to those who need to know I have overcome one of my deepest fears and been to the Post Office recently. Well my sensitive (not sensible, but only in french) sinisterites... I have gotten my first permanent salaried job since leaving University in 1997 and earning that useless degree in Linguistics... Montreal will be my new home...I will be an online editor... Bought '69 Love Songs Vol 2' today...to bring me back to the days of my childhood spent listening to my mom's Leonard Cohen albums...(though SM's style is far more complex.) It will complement my evening walks among the old stones houses and colouful fall leaves... Sinister: Hefner-interview and sitar

As I've told to the whole universe, I was supposed to interview Darren Hayman from Hefner via the phone. Well, it didn't happen, but I sent him some questions via the e-mail. It was ok I quess, nothing special, just some questions about touring and stuff. I listen to B&S and think the songs have pretty stories and some things I can identify to, but overall, Haymans lyrics are much closer to my life. All that booze and relationships that are based on sex (Hefner). And I was not bullied at school (B&S). Well I was a bit, but not to the extent that Stuart sings. And I don't get doses of thrush from licking railings. That last rant reminds me of something. I was about 5 years old and I was in pre-school. We were supposed to go to this... I don't know, I quess we were just going to go and play somewhere else than our school-yard. Well, I had to go to pee. I went, but these three boys came to the loo also. And peeked. All the time I was trying to do my thing, they were gigling and laughing and peeking and pooking. The result (and this is sad but oh so very true): I still can't pee is somebody is watching. Or pee if the bathroom door is not locked. Sniff. But really, that is a bit of a problem. Well, that was it. Not exactly beeing bullied, that one, but left marks to my psyche that I still haven't gotten over with. Phew. Now to some other stuff. I think we all agree that the state of World Health was far more Organized in the 1970's although I was confused by it then as well. Like that campaign for keeping people alive in Leeds. Imagine singling Leeds out of the entire world... I never heard much pleasant about Leeds but I didn't know things had gotten so dire there. I didn't even know they had the bomb. Don't mind me, I'm listening to REM and it requires a lot of concentration to hear those tiny squishy ocular movements, they go past so quickly. Blink of an eye, honestly. Does it really run the risk of causing an explosion if you leave your car running when they are pumping gas into it? There was a great song on the radio tonight and I had to shut off the ignition before I heard who (ummm ... no) it was by. Anyone else hear it? Mr. Daf Moore, why didn't you TELL us your Sally was coming to NY? We would have had a meet up. I'll be SHE wouldn't have gotten sidetracked by that old 'free beer' come on like SOME folks.
