How are we all doing then? I'm keeping this short. Thanks to everyone who emailed me about Mogwai's Ten Rapid. I think I'll get it when I can- whether or not these Helicons have New Paths. What they won't have is Steve 'Lammo' Lamacq talking over the last notes as he does on my tape. There was a tiny meetup on Thursday as myself and Kelly (a Sinister lurker) met up for the Arab Strap gig. It's amazing how many people you see with dark hair and a green leather jacket when you're looking for one. Then I started thinking 'Was it green hair and a dark jacket?'. (It wasn't). What a great venue the Union Chapel is. Lovely. Do they still use it for church services? Arab Strap were great -weary vocals - blasts of distortion- big long gaps - silence - atmosphere. Stunning. Wolverhampton Ian- I've heard that Jeff Beck song at Mollyneuyuxnuey for the last 3 years but now the Mackems are 4th with a bullet (from Kevin Phillips probably) in the Premiership I'll have to do without. We come out to Prokofiev's 'Dance of the Knights' and 40 000 people going (approximately) "Waaaarrgghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!" As far as the list crush goes I now refuse to recognise it's authority. I deny it. I am a fugitive from its dominion. See? Knackers to it. I am now officially a student again. I've got numerous student/NUS/library cards complete with horrific photos to prove it. Mister Sister Disco asked who does Bus Stop. It's Kristen Bailey. And her chum Patrick does the actual web site. Finally you should have a look at the Ear Confection site 1) cos it's run by Sinister Martin Robinson 2) because Picturebox (my band) are gonna have a single on it. 2 songs heard at August's Tigermilking. bugger me with a broomstick (not really), this uni thang is really quite spooky. i start on saturday, and instead of reading all the books i'm supposed to read before i go up, i've been re-re-re-re-re-rereading the trinity cambridge students handbook. and the the cambridge university students handbook, and all the letters that trinity have sent me. including the one from my college 'mum', bronya, which says 'please let me reassure you that NO mistakes have been made.. you ARE supposed to be here.. really'. but i'm thinking, 'bollocks, they're all clever, i'm thick as pigshit - heck, i'm so fucking stupid i can't even remember to tune into university challenge, let alone get any of the questions right. i'm just in because i went to a posh school and i can bullshit well.' does everyone go through this when they're preparing for university? please, supportive words much needed. i'm starting to suffer from notsleeping stress even though i haven't actually got there yet... poor (and yet unbearably lovely and missed) natasha had to put up with me being awful when she came down to london at the weekend, because a lot of the time when i should have been thinking about snogging her i was in fact thinking about that awful day less than a week away... PLUS i'm completely broke having spent all my money that was saved up for uni on my phone bill to cyprus/ internet, and so i'm going to be starving to death... Sinister:like velcro on wool

Actually its funny (not ha ha) that this list is talking about death lately, because it has been recurring in my life lately , more than on the usual scale. The dead cat, for one. The second instance of death is actually a close family friend (pseudo-family) thats dying in hospital and has only a week or so to live. I went to see her in hospital today, and (sorry for the morbidity of my recent posts) well, it was very sad. She made someone sit by her for four or so hours the other night because she is afraid that when she goes to sleep she'll die. She likes to have a person there when she goes to sleep so she feels safe. She has made friends with an orderly in the hospital and its actually quite good because the orderly sits there and talks about death and that with her. Which is something that none of her friends and family can do, because we all have too much baggage from before and it is upsetting for us, as well as her. Whereas, Trish the orderly, only knew her in hospital for the last couple of weeks and so she can talk much more lucidly with her, without breaking down. I think the worst part about her death would not be the actual dying bit but the loss of all her faculties, for her, as well as us. It clearly upsets her that she cannot walk and that she has real trouble remembering. The amount of drugs she has is so much that she cannot sustain a conversation for more than five minutes before she tunes out and stares into space. She is not that old, about 40. And one of the nicest people I have ever met..... Thankyou listees for listening, even as/if no one will read it, it is easier to write than talk often. Hey, I must seem like some sort of death-obsessed tragedy magnet.That me and bad things stick like velcro on woolen garments. Ooops. Its a good thing that no one will probably get the chance to meet me as I would probably not live up to your usual tragedy magnet expectations. I don't hang around cemetaries or even wear copious amounts of black, although now, come to think of it, I do like to scream "we are all going to dieeeeee" very loudly from my box on the corner every now and then..... Well, think about it, I listen to B&S, not really morbid stuff, although I am waiting to be contradicted by a listee who thinks that TBWTAS is the most upsetting/morbid album they've ever listened to and if you "listen to the lyrics, man" then you will realise that its pretty remarkable that all of us as listees have resisted the temptation to just finish ourselves off once and for all. Anyway, thanks to alisdair for inciting my sick sense of humour and making me smile, by making me picture my friends and I, beside the road with a stapler and a dead cat saying "Well, its always worked before....." and then another mental image of a cat with a note superglued to its hand saying "sorry, but actually I'm dead". Oh but it really was sad too... ahem.. it seems that the poetry parrot will not be flying my way. many is the time i have gazed up at the sky, hoping for a glimpse of that bright red wing, the glisten of a yellow beak, the cawed words of philip larkin...but, sadly, nothing. well, my dears, i am nothing if not resourceful. i have been labouring away in my cellar and have created a being unrivalled since the days of prometheus... its amazing what you can achieve with a few broken plates, some superglue and a human heart... the pottery pterodactyl. i kiss my little creation (with its 7 foot wingspan) and toss it gently into the air. it caws slightly, wobbles, and rises to the sky...and it shrieks its message for all to hear. fly my little ceramic creature, fly like a....species that's been extinct for several million years. and share your love with the world.. are you listening, boys and girls? then the pterodactyl will begin.. really, i'm elated that someone was giving it up for formal logic on the list. not only am i doing quite well in that course, but its a barn burning party of a class. boy, after three hours in the logic room i feel like a new man, yesir! but on to the meat and potatoes. does anyone know who edward woodward is? i've just unearthed a record of his called 'this man alone' and it's absolute gold (well maybe silver or some nice alloy of sorts), in sort of an overdone scott walker sort of way. his vibrato is obscene, but otherwise it's fab. a bunch of once-timely pop hits put through the gonzo arrangement machine and presto! the perfect record to break up that non-stop mark stewart and maffia* listening binge you were on. also, since this has turned into the informal meeting place for the magnetic fields list has it occured to anyone that stephin merrit probably owns a few sparks records? hmmmm? it just happened to me today during 'all you think about is sex', but of course, i'm just testing the waters with this theory -i havn't nailed it down yet. b bye steven K +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". allo, i think i'll attempt to use headings, so you can pick and choose what you'd like to delete/read. this attempt at politeness has of course completely ruined my attempt to enter this post in an angry manner, so just pretend it didn't happen... T.O. BASHING Oi!! What is with this? EA whoever said... >...I think my original conclusions about Toronto were correct :\ Just because you didn't get a chance to meet any other sinisterites, DOESN'T mean we're snotty people, not that you said that, but you certainly conveyed it in different words. All the listees that I have met, either in depth or only spoken a few words with, were wonderfully *lov-e-ly* people. I was pleasantly surprised that there were no 'too cool for you' types around. But I guess you'll never know.... LOLLING On then, to Mother Nature and the cruel little trick she's playing with the weather over here. It's almost October and is meant to feel that way! Last week I was wearing mittens and settling into the whole university routine again...but now this....this....heat wave of sorts that we are having. It's tricking me into the summer routine of absolute laziness (yeah...like you ever get out of that routine deb...), putting off school work to lie around parks, listening to music, contemplating the future and watching squirrels romp around. Dammit!! I have an essay due tomorrow and I can't seem to get around to it. Good on me for getting out of the rut that is procrastination. Posting to Sinister is also key to escaping. DEATH :( And I must add my two cents on the death issue, as it seems to have been a key factor in my leap from childhood bliss to adulthood reality (insanity). I think my fear stems in the loss of others really, not myself. I think I avoided relationships for a long time because the thought of loosing someone was soo painful...and then I felt it. Whoever said 'It is better to have loved and lost, then to have never loved at all', must not have experienced it. I know many will object, but that is how I feel. Is that really soo bad? Ohhhh....I won't take this any further... GATHERING? On a lighter note, if anyone is still reading, a few sinisterites will be going to Vox on friday, after Kado's (whoops!) Steven's (heehe) glowing review of last week. I too am reluctant, as they (bangers e le mash) also host BlowUp, but apparently the different night and different venue make all the...well, difference. So anyone who has been aching to meet some sinister coos, email one of us and we'll meet, possibly in a pub (most likely) before hand. Most of you will know that I once stood at a urinal next to stuart M and famously didn't look at his winky. A few of you will know that I got talking to him and was chatting away merrily for about 10 or 15 minutes. I don't think I have told anyone, however, how this conversation ended. I accidentally insulted the poor bloke. We were talking about this list and I said how good it was and how unlike many other internet groups it wasn't full of freaks with no social skills whatsoever. He said that actually he was one of those sorts of people and then I got kind of embarassed and ran away. What I'd meant by my comment was actually that this place wasn't full of the sort of people who have no life outside of their computers and attempt to make friends on the net by asking people a set bunch of questions designed to make them seem like normal people these are the people I was talking about. Stuart thought I was talking about a different group of people which he felt he belonged to. I think Stuart felt that he was one of the socially innept freaks because he feels that he has trouble expressing his deep feelings in words to other people. Some of us have feelings that we just dont have the words to describe adequately and when we try some of what we mean is filtered out by our inability to find the right language. Even when we find the language that expresses to us what we mean the meaning is further filtered out by the different associations which you hold for those words. The thing is you can never really understand what I'm trying to say unless your me, and one thing you can never be is me. I can send you a postcard but you can't come to visit. If I could write better postcards then you might get a better view of where I am. It depresses me that I can't as being useless at expressing myself leads to the sort of misunderstanding that is documented above. I'd like to appologise to Stuart for offending him and I'd love to tell him that he expresses himself far better than I do and that if he did not there wouldn't be an entire comunity of wonderfull people reading this now whose sole reason for being here is that his music speaks to us. Sinister: my heart snaps in two like an old record would...

but there will always be other copies out there of the records while my heart's not so easily replaced. i don't feel too good right now. radio show at 11:00 am and it's already 2:35 am. i'm falling apart. i thought there was some unwritten rule that you couldn't get your heart broken more than once a year but for some reason i've been cursed with the ability to fall in love with boys who are probably the farthest away from the kind of boys that i should be with. and golly, i certainly don't do it on purpose. i start out being attracted to the right sort of boy for me and then i stray when i hear nice words coming from completely wrong for me boy. and i do find the beauty within wrong for me boy. i guess that's something i'm good at. but then i end up falling completely head over heels in love with wrong for me boy. and something happens to stomp out what had started between us that was getting really warm and cozy marshmellow toasting feeling. and i can't really explain why. because i have strong opinions i suppose. my mouth usually gets me in trouble. i used to wish i was just as dumb as a bunch of people out there who think they are in love when they know nothing about the person they are with. they just end up one day thinking, "shite, i don't know what was the first song that made my husband/wife cry?" or something along the same veins. something that i want to know. maybe i'm too inquisitive. maybe i just think about it too much. in any case i'm in a bit of a mess now, because he's my best friend and i do love him and maybe we started out too fast. and maybe it's because he hasn't had a girl friend before. and maybe it's because i have had too many broken down relationships before they hit 6 months. i've only had one that lasted longer than 6 months and that one lasted a year, 2 months, 7 days. or maybe it's because he doesn't like to dance? okay. i say enough of this sadness. lighter note : i met a lurker off sinister at bis this friday night and it was a treat. it's really nice to know there are other sinisterites in the area. come on. picnic time? please? evol, madflowr np: polak ================================================= if you're in the general dc and feeling sinister? http://sinisterdc.listbot.com ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net".
