Sinister: Celibate wives?

This is only my 2nd mail as a sinister listee after a three week absence for A-Level induced alcoholic stupors whose haze I am just beginning (unfortunately) to see through. It seems to have come at a rather melancholy time too. I was somewhat jealous of everyone going to ATP as it was never an option for poor skint student me, but I think I can appreciate the disappointment you must all feel about it being cancelled. A bit like building up your expectations about this fabulous girl you've liked for ages, feeling certain that she's giving off positive vibes and that something's going to happen, only for her to ask your advise about which of her many other admirers she should go out with, yourself not included, I suppose. (My Celibate Days are very much continuing). Or maybe not. By the way, Erica and Neil should be thankful not to have got the full run down of my romantic disappointments at Saturday's glorious picnic (as Marcus can confirm). Whatever, my commiserations. (spelling?) As for the picnic, it's a long time ago now and you've all heard Marcus's version of it. Let's just say it was wonderful to meet everyone and not so wonderful smiling apologetically at a disgusted looking family eating in an outdoor restauraunt as Marcus threw up right in front of their family. I guess it was like the end of summer..... I sympathise if you're going back to school/ college, but who knows, it might be fun? As for me, I've got another month before university and I'm terrified. I'm sitting in sunny Cyprus, but the holiday atmosphere has gone. I have to work... A bit of B&S content. Has anyone noticed that Stuart sings 'seven years' of river walkways etc. on 'A Summer Wasting' rather than 'seven weeks' like it says in the lyrics? Surely deliberate? (Or am I just too used to analyzing poems/books too closely for English A-Level/ university). Well, I'm off to bed, Alex (or Crunchie. Well, Elliot, you asked for it :) ----------------------- The Reaper by Jason Andreas A silent figure stands alone, Black shroud veiling shining bone, Shadows hover round his frame, He's a hunter - life's the game, Metal glints upon a scythe, He's the Reaper, end to life. Beside his horse of ghostly white, The Reaper looms within the night, Where he'll go, we cannot tell, Perhaps to Heaven - else to Hell, But when it's you he looks upon, You'll soon see oblivion. hello groovesters, i am sorry to have left you for so long. i have been to far off places. the cosmos is my home. yes, life has certainly been hectic for this international babe and arm-wavey-hip-swingy-maraca-shakey-type-of-girl. you may remember when i contacted you last, that i was crouched behind a skip behind a wondrous land called netto in the world of wolverhampton. my funky friends, you will never guess what happened. it seems some people from the planet shakemdown heard my message. they were passing in their spaceship watching the world and waiting for it to smile, when they heard the cries of a damsel in distress and they swooped to my rescue. out of their spaceship of love they climbed and they swept me from wolverhampton to wonderment. the shakemdowners are a kind race. they come in all shapes and sizes and faces and thoughts. but from each one, the inner beauty shines like an elvis tear. they saw my tom selleck moustache and took it as proof of my virility. several of the maidens tried to entice me to their boudoirs. but i remained aloof, scared of human contact after being locked in that dreadful cellar. all this changed when one day i discovered they had maracas. my life suddenly brightened and the sun shone on my mind once more. i treated them to an impromptu concert and they fell down at my feet and began to worship. it seemed i had not lost my place at the cutting edge of hand-held-percussion after all. such joy, such happiness. the shakemdowners took me to their planet and we had one long three month groove, only interrupted by a small volcanic storm, the sudden unexpected appearance of johnny mathis, and my return to earth. fellow cosmic-dancers, i do not know how i got here. one moment, an outer space babe, the next - returned to earth and sitting on public transport. here on my own now after hours here on my own now on a bus and there's an old man opposite who keeps gesturing at me to look inside his plastic bag. starlovers, i do not want to. whatever is inside the bag keeps wincing. i wish i knew where i was going to. i wish i liked the things that life was showing me. for now, i am lost. perhaps i will see you soon. yours space-girl sarah c +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". Sinister: all tomorrow's picnics

hello everyone, ok, i've put a thread on the belle and sebastian message board proposing that all us unfortunate souls stranded in london as a result of foundation being fucking useless cocksuckers should meet up on primrose hill for two days of fun (apologies if anyone on the list is married to/ a child of/ sleeping with the head honchos at foundation). come to chalk farm tube at 2pm on saturday and sunday, and we'll have a laugh, we will. anyway, there are all sorts of more details at: http://www.belleandsebastian.co.uk/cgi-bin/mboard/belle/thread.cgi?447,0 and coupled with the cancellation of the festival of the summer, TALVIN SINGH has won the mercury music prize. what is the world coming to? it's an overblown wanky coffee-table trying to be cool but failing miserably with a few breakbeats thrown in piece of shit. anokha was much more musically interesting... quite why beth orton didn't win for that really quite outstanding... anyway, enough of that. any supposedly serious short list without come on die young on is a bit silly and not worth getting in a huff about. um, so, if i've messed up anyone else's formative plans for what we should do that weekend, i'm sorry. if anyone else has a much better plan, then let's do that instead. the picnic's just an idea for something fun to do during the day, and i'm sure that other people will be able to arrange cunning things to do in the evening. my address book is as bereft of useful contacts as my wallet is of money (still waiting for the refund that'll make me rich) and so i'm a bit crap for organising night-time entertainment, but i'm sure someone will do a great job. oh, and i'm VERY sorry if by arranging this picnic i've in any way offended mark, claire or stevie. that's just about the last thing i want to do - apart from, say, going up to my room and actually READING some of the things cambridge have told me to ;) anyway, if these plans seem fine, look forward to seeing you at all tomorrow's picnics. and that includes all of you who live in england but didn't buy tickets for the festival - see y'all there... oh, and can someone let the lovely miss cullen know about this if she can't get to her e-mail, the poor thing... love and kisses, Marcus XXX ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". That commercial shocked me as well, as it uses "How Soon as Now" over text boasting of how the car contains something like "over 47 square feet of luxury leather" and in the States (though not it's original UK pressing) that song is the centerpiece of the "Meat is Murder" album. Then it struck me that since the Smiths aren't known for licensing music to commercials, perhaps that sample was from Love Spit Love's note for note recreation of the song. In that case, Morrissey/Marr will receive songwriting royalties but wouldn't have been able to stop it's use... On an unrelated note my most recent Pavement video for "Major Leagues" should begin airing in Europe at any moment, and the Pavement home video/DVD comes out in the states in late October. Mark Ibold wears a Study at Stowe shirt in much of the documentary footage, actually, so perhaps that counts...And although most listers probably shun such things, it may be worth watching some of the MTV awards ceremony Septemebr 9th. Around the time I made "Dirty Dream Number Two" I also collaborated with the Torrance Community Dance Group for Fatboy Slim's "Praise You." In addition to being nominated for four awards the TCDG will be performing with Mr .Cook at the awards ceremony.
