Hello, It was a quiet weekend for me. Bit of a non-starter. I saw the Arab Strap show last thursday, somehow they didn't move me to the extent that I'd expected. They didn't seem too happy with the show. Aidan Moffat was quite a bit taller than I expected, though. I met fellow sinisterine Tim McGregor - top bloke, and the first time I've met someone through the list. I went on a spending spree on Saturday and bought two splediferous CDs - 'The Fidelity Wars' by Hefner and 'Slow riot for zero Kanada' by Godspeed you Black Emperor. I love the Godspeed one - it brings back memories of My Dying Bride (oh, the folly of youth!). Hefner is a bit of a grower, mind you it's the growers that always stay in the top rack longest. If I recall, it took a couple of months for IYFS to grow on me completely. Has anyone heard that re-released old album by Skip Spence? Is it any good? As a fan of Surrealistic Pillow-era Jefferson Airplane (please don't take the piss) I was considering getting it. Daragh Lynch, can you hear me? POST, damn it! Be not afraid. hellooooo my little bags of bubbles... Has anyone been walking down the street listening to their walkman and suddenly have this weird feeling that they are in a movie??? I am either having a weird freak out from working too many hours at the hospital or I had an out-of-body experience today.... I was listening to Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" and 'Things behind the sun' came on and I suddenly felt like I was walking in slow motion.... like in an end of a movie where they play a really sad song and the person is walking really slow and the wind is blowing their hair in their face....ohhhhhhhh....so weird....my head was spinning and I couldn't feel my body anymore, people were bumping into me, lips around me were moving and my eyes started tearing and I had to sit on the side of Yonge street in Toronto beside the TD bank and a man that kept asking me for change... Someone on the list, mind my cheese-holed brain but I cannot remember who, mentioned the gal from Len and I had to laugh...really loud in my room freaking out the cat....sorry, I am from Toronto and back when I was young and energetic (and rich) I used to see at least 5 shows a week, at least half of which were opened by the then 'punk rock' Len...and they always bugged me for these reasons.... 1. brother and sister incest....ewwwwwww...kissing and touching brother/sister bad.... 2. brain rotting lyrics ('just because my breath smells like poptarts doesn't mean that I eat them all night') 3. the fact that the chick never, and I repeat, NEVER took off her napsack....I must have seen them 24 times and she wore it always...once taking off her sweater with it on...we used to wonder if she had a hump... 4. have you heard her talking voice?? I did...I thought it would be high and sweet...it was low...very low....ahhhhhh... Anyhoo...I am babbling...perhaps still in complete shock from today...or perhaps just insane....(ermmm...no voting) Love ya and leave ya... Sinister: Whoopee Doo

First day back at school. I never know whether that's good or bad. Unfortunately, I had the giggles all day and found it very difficult to get any work done. It's good fun to laugh at all the new haircuts/colours and to see peoples smart new uniforms. the worst thing was finding out that I have two lots of TRIPLE MATH'S!!!! This is a complete joke. I can't concentrate for one lesson let alone three in a row! Oh well, I'll be out in a year. Sorry, I know nobody wanted to hear any of this, but I just wanted someone about my first day at school. Sorry about this, but a few points ... Lucy, yes radio in London *is* crap, although the local stations are probably marginally superior to other parts of Britain. In fact British radio stations are among the worst in the world, because they still believe in a false, imaginary national unity via the Top 40. With the freedom offered by the wider range of broadcasting elsewhere, more micro-identities within France, Germany, New Zealand even, are recognised. Not like here, tragically. "endearing Devon insularity" ... not sure about that, but I find Dorset insularity the least endearing thing imaginable. thanks for the tape suggestions. the trouble with this method, i've discovered, is that there are certain songs that i really really want on the tape but can't fit in to the thematic flow. but the glove/winter link was subtle enough to offer me hope, so cheers mark (and i promise not to associate you with menstruation ever again; also to write soon). my b&s content includes 'sleep the clock around' sandwiched between a song with 'night' in the title and one with 'morning', although i guess it should have been 2 songs with the same time of day. mr beaker's endearing devon insularity reminded me of a stand-up comedian i know (how poncy did that sound? i mean this guy i know who is a bit funny) from devon who has a joke about devon farmers seeing a train for the first time and only being able to name it, bemusedly, as a 'skinny tractor'. made me laugh anyway. when i still had lots to laugh about. be nice to me everyone, i'll admit i'm feeling strange. moving is next to bereavement and divorce in the trauma stakes, and most people who have to move at least have jobs. sinister keeps my pecker up though, as happily seems to be the case for others of you :) luv as ever, archel xxx ps: big sympathetic hug to bug. a bughug, if you will. Sinister: list crush
