Hello, I keep promising to stop writing, but this list is an excellent way to avoid essays on prosody, so here goes: I finally got GYBE!'s new one(!!!). Wow. Wow. Wow, yet again. I can't believe I made it this long without it, but I made my mom detour to the only useful record store and got the LAST COPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This happened on my birthday, so of course I knew I could attribute it to a certain alignment of the planets. Wow. I almost cried during the Coney Island part. I never cry. I'm the ideal bridesmaid: tear-ducts of steel. Such lovely bedtime music now. I thought nothing could ever be more beautiful than Moya, but I stand corrected. Getting this album has made me listen to other music more accutely. It's a disease, really. Now I have a B&S problem. While listening to the Mobile Peasant, I couldn't get the idea out of my head that on There's too much love a part of the strings sounds exactly like this other song. dA da dA da dA da DA da da. I can't represent sound with letters, sorry. I just can't think of the other song. It's several decades old, and could be some sort of harmony. I think the words at this part are something to the effect of: "On the wings of a nightingale...." but I'm really not sure. No one knows what I'm talking about. It's REALLY bothering me now. REALLY. Maybe if you have some ability to decode "da da"s you can help me out. Please. Au secours! Don't like to sk favours, but .... ***I NEED A FAVOUR*** ***THIS HAS TO DO WITH COLDPLAY*** ***READY?*** I don't suppose anyone bought yesterday's "Independant on Sunday" and wants to send me the free Coldplay EP which was allegedly given away with it. i would REALLY appreciate this if anyone could help me out this this ..... thanks. I know have the much sought after Verve "Voyager 1" bootleg. I can't believe how much music I've been missing out on before the Mac version came out. Wow!!!! I have a lovely G3 and twin ISDN lines at work, and the bountiful cornacopia of free music is just flowing. (Oh, and record company people. The music I download is the rare/live stuff you *won't* release for public consumption, so you're not losing a dime off me!) ***EXTREME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*** I played laser tag yesterday. Inside this 25 year old shell is the soul of a 14 year old boy! It was s mcuh fun. I don't think I've played it since i was a kid, but did it go off? Yes, it did. Sinister: The first day of snow...

Hi Sinister, Last night was the first snow in vermont that was state wide for all intentional purposes. There is snow on the ground now and well those who ski are probably happy. I do not ski, I just become more of a bedhead during winter and record alot of music...and of course study more. Now if I can only spot the fox snow that i have been seeing in the massive forests around here it would be great and very list appropriate. By the way any of those on the list who sent me the addy for the fishytown art space I must thank you. For anybody who is going to tour in the future this place was the coolest venues on earth, it was done up like a giant tropical forest by a bunch of little kids...it is hard to descibe beyond that, but it is very cool. I saw the softies and they are wonderful people...Same with mirah and the micorphones(phil). Oh Jennifer from the softies noticed my B&S badge(the boy one), she never saw it before... Basically it was one of the best shows i was at... I am missing out on holloween this year, but it feels more like christmas to me. Strangely i am happy regardless. it snowed today but it did not stay. someone on "goodbye enemy airship the landlord is dead" yells "it's christmas time" and i noyiced it for the first time today. i recieved a call from one of my best friends in scotland who emphasized how happy she was by saying it over and over again. by the third time i knew she was rolling. first time roller! Hurray!-- but wait, a quiet whisper inside my head asks, is it really? and i knew that my conscience had yet another thing to set its meat hooks into. Why should this bother me, someone else, be it a good friend, taking drugs? i used to use drugs quite often, but have been surprisingly sober for 3/4 of a year now (with the exception of a "pass the joint" after having far too many bevvy's (and i know. drink could be counted as a drug, but i don't count it.)) besides that:spic&span. Having played a role in the "drug culture" and eaten my fair share of potato chips, and having quite enjoyed myself at the time, i wonder to myself why this bothers me. one of the reasons is that i quite liked her because she never used, and i could still get on with her and all, whilst mostly all of my other friends were users also. the innocent appeal, yeah. She says that she won't do it again (not that i critisized, it is a fucking asshole who critsizes someone for rolling while they are rolling(other drugs apply as well)) that she thought she'd just try it out. Yeah. . . myself and many other people i knew said the very same thing. once a thing like that has you, that is it. you may not go out of your way to find it, but if it slides in under your nose, who's to say, ya know? i guess that i am almost anti-drug now. i take some flack for it from people i used to smoke with, etc. The temptation just isn't there any more. bordem and laziness just got so they weren't my thing. I think hearing that she had taken ecstacy may have caused me to start asking myself how much i miss all that, though. less about how i don't really want her to get into that kind of scene (although that is very present) and more about whether i am really past any (be it minor) addiction i might have (had). I think that i'll talk to her about it, though. Tomorrow, the day after. This week has been painstakingly mundane. Thank the good Lord for Godspeed you Black emporer. it is the closest thing to a religious experience i've had since the last time i walked past a church and laughed at it. Anyway. Hello sinister! I've been told off again for not posting enough, so I thought I'd better. Halloween has come very quickly and I've just realised I haven't been invited to a single party or anything, <sob>. At least i don't have to worry about what to dress up in. Nick Drake! What a fantastic chap. You must buy his records if you haven't already. Auntsadie seems to think he's ripping off B&S in a VW advert, but i'm not sure if that's true. Man In a Shed is the best song. I sympathise with poor Amy with her grandfather situation since my grandmother went just last week. It's not like i knew her that well or really had any fond memories - she moved up to a home in Huddersfield (many many miles away) when I was quite little and we only saw her occasionally. And it's not like she was having a fantastic time in that old peoples home anyway. But for some reason it's still sad. On the way to the funeral we listened to a lot of Nick Drake! yay! and Belle and Sebastian, because they are also quite good. Speaking of whom, I met a boy at school who likes belle and sebastian. And also Nick Drake! yay! If only I was a girl, or he was a girl, then we could fall in love. He is rumoured to be gay, actually, but he denies it, so maybe I'd better not try it on. I did of course once meet a girl who liked belle and sebastian but I was too hopeless to do anything about it. I hope you've all been watching Roswell High on BBC 2 at 6pm on thursdays. If you haven't then you've been missing out on the absolutely adorable Maria, who just a few weeks ago had this hairband on that made her look an awful lot like Isobel. Speaking of whom, I will hopefully be going to see the Gentle Waves (which, if you try hard, you can pronounce with a distinctly twee lisp - try and stick a 'w' on the end of "Gentle") with a few sinistereens and maybe this boy from school, fantastic. Who else is going? the london one on the first of december. "He's a mess but he'll say yes, if you just dress in white." Oh dear, I'm in love with Hannah from S Club 7, but not with any girls who I know in real life, that is unfortunate. An alarming number of my friends are getting girlfriends who they met over the internet. I'm all for being sociable over the net and chat rooms and stuff are fun but is it really a good idea to decide you seriously like someone who you haven't seen? I rather like my new sideburns. My hairdresser suggested it and I thought it would be fun. Now I look even older and it's really easy to get various items sold to me, hurrah (being 16 as I am, I get certain kicks out of getting into 18 films or buying booze). This has been a disjointed post with no real purpose except to generally advocate the purchasing and listening to of Nick Drake! yay! records, which I apologise for but you see I can never keep my mind on one thing and I feel I must post because I keep getting told off by a certain lad from the list for not doing so. Hi Little Seconds, Sorry about that, but the Gentle Waves have got me feeling all Miltonian. Falling From Grace is very strongly reminiscent of some other tune, but I cant yet place it. Thanks to Toby for the interview with Mick "Munchies" Cooke. I'm dying to see the T Rex, Queen & Pirsig influences come out in Belle and Sebastian's music. Writing lyrics about epistemology? or maybe they'll just wear make-up. Alequo te volo petere... aye, it's chilly out Us Brits are always supposed to be talking about the weather, so here goes. Today is alternating between beautiful and ugly. For moments, the sun strikes swathes of golden leaves at a low angle, shimering in gale-force winds against a gunmetal sky. Then, rooms, car interiors, gardens, hilltops are cast into gloom, and a light spray of rain becomes cold like needles. The remaining apples were blown to the ground last night. boo! The church hijacked Halloween, like Christmas, from an old pagan festival. Like Christmas, it seems the people are beginning to claim it back, or, is it Hollywood and Department Stores? Anyway, in the Celtic calendar, the last night of October is 'Old Year's Night'. third sujbect Sometimes there is not much to say, so why say it? I scan books on shelves to give me inspiration but to what end? I'm too confused to leaven things with humour; too distracted to follow a single theme. Like the middle class wet liberal pseudo yuppie that I am I don't know the line between explanation and apology, and salve myself in the soothing tones of religious music praising a God that I have long since bracketed within 'speculations'. The fact is, the conundrum is easily explained if one considers that emotional need and rational justification are entirely different but, when writing, the means can project the former in the shallowest guise of the latter, until one gives up that ghost and simply declaims that, for these moments, rationality has to be suspended to allow the emotion to grow, unfettered by understanding. incompatible Two people meet, say. One has just been reading a biography of a wild decadent like Rimbaud, and the other has been reading a biography of an Olympic Athlete. Hello all I once found a live version of a Godspeed You Black Emperor! song, called something like Hung Over As The Oven(?) In/Of... something ("Maida"?) on mp3. Problem is I can't figure out which album or EP it's on... has it been released? Could someone please help me out?
