I just bought Searching For The Young Soul Rebel! What a bluddy top rankin' album! Why it took me twenty years to pick this up I'll never know (yes I do - I was five when it came out). Rarely have eight big men crafted something of such near perfection. On the same shopping trip I bought Jimmy Corrigan The Smartest Kid On Earth. Its some of the most heartbreaking stuff I've ever seen in print and everyone one should read it. Now. Wonderful. Whats with all this ringtone business? I've got a Motorola Montreal thats about thirty years old and just goes "ring ring" which is easily as entertaining as a Gentle Waves song. 3:47 in the morning. Woken up from a strange, yet comforting dream, he hears the rain thrashing down onto the saturated concrete outside. But inside it couldnt be dryer. The heating had come on in the middle of the night. He left the radiator on at 5 before he went to sleep. Cocooned inside his overlarge duvet, he protects himself from the heat outside the bed, but can feel his face and toes toasting away with immense satisfaction. Especially since he remembers he doesnt have to go to school in a couple of hours. He doesnt go back until Monday. The tatty holidays. Originally, youths would ask farmers to pick their potatoes for them in the holiday, to earn a little more pocket money. But nowadays, they just hang around the street in their big jackets with a cheap bottle of whisky. He hasnt been plastered for a while, he thinks. But he doesnt really care all that much, hed rather just stay sober for the rest of his potentially monotonous life than drink with those. He hears a car going past his house and down the street. He wonders what kind of people would be in the car at this time. It could be a family coming back from holiday. Car journeys can be very long to get up to where he lives. Or maybe its just someone working nightshift. The light shines through his somewhat-translucent curtains, which makes him screw his face up temporarily. He rubs one leg over the other, bringing out an instant sweat. He thinks it must be hotter than what it feels like. He wonders if he turned thelight on his face would be as red as Her cape :) He doesnt try though, because he is planning on not moving away from his bed until the sun stops shining on his Richey Edwards poster, which, on a clear morning, would be about 10:30 at this time of year. He also notices that even if he gets up for the toilet, the intense heat will hit him, but, more importantly, he will never get back the perfect-ness of the position of the duvet. So he smiles to himself, and listens adoringly to the rain thrashing down outside. Dear all, Distressingly, this is my first mail (I think) to the list. Even more distressingly It isn't B+S related, but hey! On this mobile debate. It's the future, and where else can you get portable microwave ovens for your sausage rolls to be heated up on the way home from a club? Slight further deviation from B+S... Ken, you're on about the NTL monopoly on Nottingham Campus. I was there for a couple of years, but what I found worse than phone monopolies was the cash monopolies... Mondex, a sort of cashless piece of plastic with a chip in it... it was the height of evil because you have to load it up with credit from your account and the machines were always sited in the union bar very close to the Guiness tap... you could never run out of money (well eventually, but...) Hello! Hey, whats a weblog? I don't understand. Whats a life? I have no idea what that is either so I don't have any concept of the idea lifeblood stealing its corpulent way through narrowed and tired veins.... sorry about that, I've been reading "Nothing" by Paul Morley. But you know how you usually read a book from front to back (or back to front if you are JAPANESE or CHINESE or HONG KONG ESE) well, I found this to be impossible, and a better was opening the book at random and reading a few pages until you fall asleep with the words "I'm A Grumpy Git, Me", echoing in your ears. Stockport aint so bad! So Lucy is going to Scotchland? I hope she knows that Railtrack have closed the west coast line so if she goes the BEST route (via Preston of course!) she wlil have delays. But but! If she goes tomorrow she would have the company of my own fair self up to Preston too, cos I'm going home in order to go to a decent pub, and hear people speak proper. And no-one will know what a cider armadillo is and I shall be happy. Isobel Campbell was in Londons Trendy Time Out this week. In the singles reviews. AND NO WONDER TOO, WITH A FACE LIKE THAT, SHE WOULDN'T EXACTLY BE IN THE COUPLES SECTION WOULD SHE? AAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHA I hate the stupid Genital Waves, I don't care if they make something that sounds like whatever Jean Brodie is, they are CRAP to the Zenth degree! Can't you see? Actually, I can't drive either, but thats beyond the point. I am however, a Pokemon League Champion. Achieving this goal, starting with a Bulbsaur, took me 40 or so hours. I'm proud! Now I am starting again, with Charmander, with the express aim of CATCHING THEM ALL! I can't wait to see the Pokemon Movie 2, in fact, Pokemon 1 too. That Mewtwo seems a bit of a bugger, to tell you the truth. Yikes. I think there is compelling evidence that I am actually 8 years old. An intense devotion to Pokémon, the fact that last night I drank some Apple Flavour Hooch (it was horrid), and um... urr... I have a new mobile phone? If anyone knows of a site/has any cool ringtones for the Siemens c35i, let me know. Unless you are a Gentle Waves fan and you are going to send my unsuspecting phone tunes with names like "Down With The Fwuffy Wuffy Sqwiwells". Whatever happened to the Squirrel Liberation Front? More to the point, why the fuck are the Who and the Undertones and Wire playing shows again? Point? POINT? IS THERE ONE? I'm serious, someone tell me what a weblog is... Sinister: Technical Ecstasy

I find that Dunkin' Donuts donuts tend to repeat on me. Which of course makes them excellent value for money. Amongst the thousands of objects hurled at Luis Figo on Saturday night were two mobile phones. I wonder if one of them was Jordi's? I once spoke to Jordi's mum on the phone. Jordi appears to be in ecstasy over the new Gentle Waves album's precious beauty. I think me and ElenaNena99 are going to have to take him to next week's Jethro Tull gig. A hairy one-legged flautist dressed as a tramp and singing about heavy horses will soon have him bang to rights. There are (whispers) photos of Isobel dressed in school uniform (nearly) on Jordi's list website. She's sitting in the back of a car, on cold leopard seats, well it suddenly struck me it just might be Max after all. Does anyone know if Max has cold leopard seats? Seems quite likely. Isobel seems to have slimmed down a bit after the ill-fated love handle years. Last night I watched Leeds versus Barcelona in a bar ful of geriatic Catalonians baying for blood. I was quite relieved when they equalised. Quite lucky to be alive. Stay at home, watch the football in my bathroom. My favourite children's television programme was Mister Rodd - as if by magic, a Roddkeeper appeared! I have heard the Magnetic Fields. You used to be able to get a special Duke discount when ordering Young and Foolish direct from the man himself. I for one await Young and Foolish 2 with quivering anticipation. I'm very proud to appear in volume one, albeit in a secondary role. I'm in three books, I am. Jason Andreas left us without telling us about The WHO concert. Well done to all the stalkers just lately, that's what the list is for, you know. I am listening to Here My Dear by Marvin Gaye and it sems a shame to spoil it by spouting shite at the same time, so I'm going. But not before answering The Pinefox: No I don't agree that Thin Lizzy are like The Clash, but they've got some corking songs, like Tonight There's Gonna Be a Jailbreak and The Boys Are Backing Town and You Are All I Need to Know You Hold the Key So Don't Let Go My Sarah. I don't like The Clash much. I think what I meant to say is that it was nice to see Simon Reynolds talking about a good group instead of all that AR Kane nonsense. Hello you lot I've knitted a scarf! It's got brown and pink and blue and cream stripes and tassles and it's awful snuggly and very long. I think I'll be needing it as I head for freezing Scotland tomorrow - hurrah! I don't know if I'm the last one to find this and you already know about it (I usually find websites that my mates have known about for donkeys) but http://www.kcrw.com has some great live sessions from about 1994 to the present including Mirah, Magnetic Fields, April March, Stars, Mark Eitzel, Stereolab, Jeff Buckley and more. The magfields one is jolly good, especially Papa was a Rodeo and also if you fancy a giggle at Stephin Merritt's chirpy interview style. Right first things first, it would appear that Mrs Carsmile has two spare tickets to see Idlewild at the Shepherds Bush Empire tomorrow (ie thursday) night. I am going as well, but i didn't want to give the impression that it was like my idea or anything, I mean they're OK, but i wouldn't make the effort if Mrs C wasn't such a fan. Anyway, if anyone wants them (I don't even know if it's sold out or anything), drop me a line. Thank you. Now, on to other stuff Phil Runion said: in Safeway they sell bottles of spirits, a whole aisle to choose from at that. In America you'd be lucky to get a bottle of cooking wine in a grocery store. You want to go to a chip shop in edinburgh mate, they sell BOUZE there too and fags, which is always handy, if you're an alcoholic who fancies a haggis supper Lots of people talked about mobiles, have you noticed in the cinema it tells you to switch off your mobile, but they don't tell you not to smoke anymore. Maybe you can smoke now and NO ONE HAS REALISED because we are all conditioned... I have a GRATE Xmas album called "tijuana xmas" which is carols in a mariachi styleee, it might even have o cum emmanuel on it, i'll have to check. It's even better than my "tijuana lennon and mcartney" and gets me in a festive mood when i'm stuffing my bird. Jordi said the auction has closed, does that mean we can start bidding yet??? I seems like aaaaaaaaaages since i sent my "talent" in, oh that's because it was, i was still living in cheltenham then, which seems like a lifetime ago.. Elena-nena is on a rhyming mission at the moment. Here are my favourite non-rhyming english words: cough (c-off) dough (d-oh) bough (b-ow) enough (en-uff) If I was clever i would work these words into a complicated humourous sentence, but i'm not... Ken mentioned amy getting enforced for talking about her haircut, but i can't help noticing that Ken himself has mentioned *his* on a number of occasions too.
