Sinister: B&S meet heavy metal

Hello one and all- Anyone who knows me, and the range of music I listen to, might not be surprised that I'd be buying B&S music in the morning, and dancing hard at a metal show in the evening. Such was the case yesterday. I already have FISHYCLA PHEASANT, but Saturday in the A.M., I finally bought Legal Man. I was particularly curious about the "Judy" song. I put the cd in the cargo pocket of my shorts, and forgot all about it... Later in the evening, I ended up at hardcore/metal show at a local club. The bands were playing well, motivating the crowd, so some dancing ensued. Am I'm not talking about the waltz here. More of the "floorpunch" style. And of course I was out there doing Bruce Lee spinkicks. When I found my way home last night, I put my hand on my cargo pocket and remembered my precious cargo. My jaw dropped, and I feared the worse. I pictured myself dumping out pieces of plastic. I pulled out the case, and the front was pretty much smashed. The insert that says "Legal Man" is currently obscured by cracked plastic, missing pieces. HOWEVER: the cd itself was not even scratched! Good thing Jeepster has that contract with Kevlar Body Armor. Sinister: Good Things and Bad Things

Good things and bad things have been happening to me lately. For example: we get all sorts of odd-looking people at our work. Just the other day, there was this bloke who looked just like "aristocratic" Stu M on the inside of FISHYCLAP, but with NHS glasses and a colonially-shaped helmet. You know what I mean; the hemispherical ones, with a big brim. This one was in tweed, however. In fact, all of his clothes were tweed. He looked as if he has never, ever said anything to anybody -- at least, not since Rhodesia declared independance. On Religion: All this talk about religion has made me think: one day, I'm going to start my own religion. Actually, I've been thinkinh about it for ages, but this is a Good Time to mention it. I haven't thought of a snappy name, so for now my cult shall be known merely as the Fundamental Agnostics. Our secret wisdom shall not be some magic words or a funny handshake; it will be the fact that we have no secret wisdom, and we are comfortable with that. We shan't tell you: when you die, you shall go to a Happy Place. We shall tell you: when you die, we don't know what will happen. Have fun finding out. We shall encourgae people not to believe everything that they read, or everything they are told. We shan't pretend that we know everything, either, or that we want you to go to heaven, or that we want you to send us your money. If you appreciate us, you are free to send your money, but we shall never solicit it. You see, the religious people I don't like are the ones who always say that they *know*. I was brought up an Anglican, and was always told that God will never answer tests; you have to have the strength to believe in him for yourself. Now, I see people saying "I can !PROVE! that Jesus existed", and I want to ask them: "So, you don't really believe in him?" I've studied archaeology, and find it quite amusing to read through some of these "Christian Archaeology" books spotting the obvious mistakes -- I don't mean factual errors in Middle Eastern archaeology, but places where the writers clearly don't understand what archaeology can and can't do. IMHO, those people persuade themselves that they can prove the truth of the Bible, because they don't have the personal strength or confidence to rely on belief alone. I, on the other hand, contend that your life will be better if you accept that you cannot prove what will happen after death (to take one example), and learn to live with that. Two related things happened to me in the last few days. One, I have received wisdom, in the form of graduating from university. A man in a richly-decorated gown tapped me on the head with a cap made from the trousers of a centuries-dead theologian, and therefore, I can now put some letters after my name. I *really* haven't seen the fuss; the "Yes! I've finished!" moment came a few months back when I finished my dissertation; before I'd even done any exams. Presumably, if it hadn't, I'd have got a better grade. Two days later, i found that my gf's mother has cancer. Sometime in the next year, she will probably die. Here's a reassuring thought for all those people who want proof that heaven is real. If there is no life after death, you're unlikely to discover it. By that point, there'll be no you. Of course, *I* don't know whether there is or not. I can't prove anything about the metaphysical world, and I want to tell everyone that nobody living ever can. Sinister: hogging the slow lane, just to show off

Hello, Um, me again. Writing for no reason other than it's a Sunday evening, I'm drinking cheap, strong (repellant really) cider and I, y'know, felt like it. I'm glad that there Sheffield picnic was fun. I nearly went you know, honest I did. I nearly decided to show my face and be sociable and happy and all the rest. I even looked at the train timetables. As it turned out though, I woke up on Saturday with a rather sore head after having indulged rather heavily on the Diet Tango the night before, and as well as feeling as sick as a lab rat I just plain forgot. Sorry. That was non-story number one. There'll be another in a moment. You'll never guess, so I'll tell you. On Friday I bought my first ever car. By mistake. I saw it in the showroom drove in it, and before I knew what I was doing I'd signed about two hundred pieces of paper, earned a gurning salesman a nice commission and landed myself in debt for the next four years. Still, there's a Fiat Punto out front, and it's green. Which is all that really matters. The thing I've noticed most though, after getting over the novelty of driving for the first time in about 3 years had worn off and I'd managed to work out that the car isn't, in fact, as wide as the WHOLE ROAD and driving like a SCREAMING MANIAC, was that I don't know how to actually *get* anywhere. No idea at all. No idea how to get out of Leeds, no idea how to even get to the video rental shop. I pulled out of the drive to go to work today and suddenly realised that the only route I knew was the way the bus went, and apart from that being a really twiddley windey way to go it didn't even get me to the office just to the centre of town, and also that it goes through lots of bus only roads. People get upset if you drive down those. So what I have, in fact, sacrificed my social life and abundant CD purchases for the next century or so for is a very expensive metal box. Still, it is green, as I said. I shall have to invest in a map. This is non story number two : the company I work for has recently moved into some ultra sexy new offices (as apparently we are doing "really well" and I should be very excited, all it really means though is that likely I'll need to start working harder, or even at all) and with that move we've got some friendly new staff who help to keep the office tidy and ensure that people's bins are emptied etc. Fair enough. One of the things they do though - at the management's request, I assume - is come around at the end of the day and generally give your space a bit of a tidy, make sure there are no paper cups left around etc. BUT, what they also seem to do is take everyone's personal mug (if they have one) into the kitchen and do a great load of washing up. Now I think this might just be me, but I personally feel really uncomfortable with someone doing that for me, it seems to be implying that they are somehow beneath me and that I'm more important than them because I work *for* the company, rather than just cleaning up after it. it's like when people don't say thank you to waiters, I *hate* that. So anyway I had to take hold of my mug and say to the lady that really, it was fine, I'd wash the mug myself, don't worry about it. Only I'm not sure if that doesn't only make things worse. I worry about it every day when it gets too about 5:15. I try not to be at my desk, which, to be honest, isn't very hard. That's been playing on my mind, anyway. Oh dear. I appear to have talking for a large number of days. Sorry. But I do only post once every ice age or so, and this time I have a car. It's green you know. Sinister: the cube we had for fresh air...

Yes, hello. How might you all be? I think some of you might say very well and some might just look at me and not say anything at all and which in this case I would know that meant awful. So I had a weekend from dream world. What do I mean? Oh well this is what happened....I am going on a trip to Europe and I have no money since my business decided it didn't want to work for about 2 months and silly me I kept spending like it worked better than ever. So I was hearing these things about these medical studies that take place the town over. I like the town over. It's pleasant. My friend's parents live there too...so we frequent it. OK back to the subject.....I decided to do one of these studies. It was to pay $830.00 and a friend loaned me a nice chunk too. Well, I go there on Thursday night....managed to find some nice boys to chat with about books and so on.....we all went to sleep knowing we were to be woken at 6 am to have tubes (IV's) into our arms. Ok so I wake up and manage to walk into the ward....there were 12 of us on this particular study....and after going through the hell of having tubes stuck into my veins.....the started to take my blood...out of one of the tubes mind you.....Ok to make this long boring story short...I got so so so sick from the med. they gave me. It was so awful.....I got to go outside like 2 times and it was this courtyard and all you could see when you looked up was this tiny patch of sky. Just awful. And everyone in there was smoking (there were 5 other studies taking place)....I found another nice boy....sort of a hippie...not my fav.....but he was so sweet. Then the throwing up started. I threw up so much and so violently.....my abs hurt very badly the next day. Not that you wanted to hear this. So I have to go back next week and do the same thing over. What have I become? It's quite sad to know you are subjecting yourself to torture for money. My veins are so bruised too....like a junkie. Then my batteries went out in my walkman and I couldn't listen to Belle and Sebastian or anything else for that matter. Oh well. I think it will be ok next week. I managed to paint my friends parents house yesterday and I also managed to walk about that town covered in my paint clothes and but some nice music. So what am I complaining about? Ok I am sorry to subject you to this awful email......maybe you won't have even read this far. Sinister: not at all ha ha hee hee

well well, here i am again. i haven't posted for ages and there are many reasons for this (none of them to do with the list, don't think this is going to be a maony post) anyway i've had a truely up and down month. there has never been a worse start to a month in my life. now you probably think that this is going to be some sort of bedsit infamy sort of worse start but its not. a friend of mine called johan was killed in a car crash in june. he was 21. we weren't all that close but that makes no difference. this sort of thing can really change you. i've been in loads of car crashes but no one has ever been hurt so why him? it is aweful seeing the effect it is having on the people that were his best friends. kev has always been a sensitive type and now he's become really intreverted. i don't see how i can help him. sorry for posting such unhappiness but needed to get it off my chest. on a lighter note (doesn't that sound out of place?!?) i /ve just got back from a short holiday in cornwall. i think some time in the country always does me good. the problem is staying in such a pretty place i get a really romanticised vision of the people that live their, then i find out they're just the same sort of types that i get in suburbia, only wiith worse dress sense. a typical outfit would be ben sherman shirt with tracksuit bottoms. if scarlet were reading this she'd be horified! the best solution is to ignore the natives, internalise and become more poetic than usual. wrote loads while i was out there. anyway thats enough for now much love robert smith ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. Sinister: Colin and his dream of fishes...

Hi there lovely people... First of all, on the subject line...I apologise to Colin(Ferguson) but I just couldn't supress the urge of saying this.Hope I don't have to pay for any copyrights or anything like that....My inspiration came from Colin's dream of Stewart being a goldfish... "I had my first and so far only B&S dream. It was pretty bizarre to say the least. Basically Stewart M was my goldfish, even though it was silver for some reason, and I somehow managed to kill him. I can't remember if I ate him or just knocked him out of the bowl. I was so upset I was going to kill myself but then I woke up. " The strange thing is that I had a goldfish once and I had named it Colin (after Radiohead's Colin )But it somehow died although I was being very attentive to it...I was very upset when this happened too....but I wouldn't go as far as to kill myself...Well maybe if my goldfish sang Lazy Line Painter Jane or Dog on Wheels (Get Me Away From Here I'm Dying in this particular case) I'd prolly slit my wrists for letting it die.... Hmmm...are there any other fellow sinisterines from Greece??I know there are at least 5 so don't go hiding under beds or inside closets ....come forward or I'll have to drag you out!: ) Maybe we could organise a meeting or something one of these days in the summer....You can just email me privately and we'll work something out.... Whoever hasn't lived the Moby experience....try not to miss it next time....He's really popular here and he knows exactly how to pay people back for their admiration and love.He gives it all on stage.I was dancing nonstop throughout his act like a loon on drugs...which I wasn't......on drugs I mean...... ->Oasis...strangely enough they were quite good as well.I was in the third row and I was finally able to get close encounters with the little Gallagher..They played a good set -thanks God, only 2-3 songs from the new album-although they only played one encore because something happened to the microphone...Liam got really pissed off and started , you know, being "nice" to the audience.... Sinister: Next stop....HELL

The religion topic really interests me, especially when hearing from others who are skeptical. Being from a quaint little suburb in California, where ninety percent of the community is Christian, I don't get to engage in any sort of religious debate without automatically feeling as if I am already burning alive in the firey pit of hell. I can't tell you what a relief it is to read opinions from other people that are the same as mine. My best friend and I always joke with our Catholic friend about how she doesn't have to pray for us anymore because we've already accepted that we're going to hell, hmm..for some strange reason she never laughs. i just don't buy it anymore. the whole heaven and hell thing. and now that i am at this point in my life where i have questioned my faith i can't believe that i was ever naive enough to just believe what a book told me, and that i could just trust something that i had no proof of. And yet on the flip side, I miss having that faith, something to believe in and hold on to. in some ways i feel like it's my innocence that was lost along with it. I don't know if i will ever regain my faith in God. Not the Christian aspect of God at least. I've seen too much suffering, my own and those that I love. I don't say that I'm an atheist though, because I do believe that there has to be a God, I just don't know that I can trust him yet. Well i'm sure that i've bored you all so i will go. Hello listees. This is my first post, and I must say that I have enjoyed reading as many messages as I can of the list. I just received my voice last week, but between work and living I have not had too much spare time. Unfortunately I was still in the nursery during the Pink Floyd exchange, but I will not rekindle that one. It has been a while since I discovered a band like B&S...you know, the kind of band that makes it necessary to own everything they have everyone...By the way, I was in a department store the other day, and I swear I heard The State That I Am In on MUZAK. Anyway, I live in Portland, Oregon and I would love to hear from any sinisterees in the area (maybe even a picnic).
