I second Honey's request for Birmingham news. On that train of thought
it would be good to hear about the ATP meet too.
We're just two months away from Indietracks fest
(http://www.indietracks.co.uk) I'm guessing there's a few
Sinisterites past and present who will be going so I wondered if there
was any interest in arranging a meet up during the weekend...? There's
still tickets available from Ticketweb. I'd start a facebook event but
only have three Sinister friends on there and one of those three
doesn't do festivals anymore. Besides, it would be nice to generate
some list action.
I'm not going to Glasto this year unfortunately but I did notice that
on the usual Siniglasto slot of Thurs night there is a new stage open
with bands on all night which is a bonus. For those of you that do
usually imbibe from the Brother's pear cider (perry) bar you should be
able to get 2 litre bottles to take with you.
I'm glad I've subscribed to the God Help The Girl releases but was a
bit miffed when my Come Monday Night 7" single ends abruptly when the
song doesn't seem to have finished on both sides. At least it's not
warped or scratched like a The Boy Least Likely To release that I
purchased.
Has anyone got any exciting trips planned? I'm having to defer to next
year as I'm waiting to see if I can start back at work.
Bye for now...
...Amy

I'm afraid I am one of those whose mails to sinister have bounced for years, which is why I haven't written. Let's try this.

OK, I'm not sure about the dates, exactly, but as today is The Day
After The Brits it means that it is ten years since YOU LOT won b&s
their brit and ten years since i thought "hey i quite like that belle
and sebastian band, i wonder what i can find out about them on this
new-fangled internet i have here" and ten years since i joined up to
this most wonderful of communities, regardless of how little gets
posted these days, or the squabbles that have gone on over the years,
you're still all beautiful and i love you all, especially YOU.

dear, dear, Sinister:
got in nearly freezing this morning and since have been wrapped up in
new books, someone gentle gave me a copy of 'Ys' and it sounds better
than most other things, and now I am going to play more wine and drink
Nightfire (because I'm only going to be making this first post to
sinister, this yr, once, ever, ever). (because Croydon's where it's
at!). no 'BBC Sessions' but that's alright, I've got Christmas money
to spend.
hope you had a good one, hope all the fragrances are a-okay and the
wrapping paper's been cleared away (by someone else).
much love and loving,

Hey there sinisters,
The year is ending, hope you are all well. Personally I had a very
uneventful 2008 which makes me a little sad, as I kind of wished that
something significant would happen.
Never mind that though, new year is beginning and look there is an
exciting cover design contest for matador's release of the BBC Sessions
album!
http://www.matadorrecords.com/belle_and_sebastian/lazy_contest/
Looking at the crappy designs submitted so far, I think I can stand a
chance of winning. Maybe you do too!

Lurked for many a year - 10, 12.. who knows? Decided to say hello to one and all, for once and for all.
I just listened to some old B+S and felt a bit nostalgic....
I've read all your posts over the years and have enjoyed them all. I look forward to reading them for a long time to come...
Thank you and all my love.

Dear Sinister,
The first snowfall in Montreal. That particular hush descending on the streets, punctuated by the occasional rumble of a passing municipal truck, by the whine of summer tires struggling to gain a hold on the slippery pavement. I love the city in winter, and it's good to be home after so many years away.
I made a pilgrimage to Glasgow in May. I wandered around the West End looking for Saint Theresa on the hill and was unreasonably excited to happen upon Stow College. I talked to almost no one for five days and walked my way through Belle and Sebastian's complete discography (including EPs and foreign releases, in chronological order by release date). It's a pity that Heaven in the Afternoon didn't bump one of the more lacklustre tracks off The Life Pursuit; I remember exactly where I was when my playlist inevitably went quiet on just that note.
I don't know exactly why I'm writing now, perhaps for the third time only since joining the list five or so years ago. I'm sitting in my unheated living room under a fastidiously framed Fold Your Hands art print; my twenty-fifth birthday is fast approaching. I spend my days listening to fantastic tales and oh so calmly persuading angry people to come inside from the blowing snow, there will be a sandwich, you see, and later a cigarette, and perhaps a little something to help lull to sleep. It's a strange sort of life.

Sinister.
Isn't it nice to see a little activity here. These days I read every letter of every post, once upon a time there were as many posts to read a day as there are letters now.
I don't have much to add, really.
At the end of September I found myself, rather unexpectedly, 25 years old.
The first time I heard B&S was when I was 15. I was in 4th year at high school and my English teacher made me a tape of TWATTYBUS/IYFS, I listened to them in that order, so the first song I ever heard was 'It could have been a brilliant career'.
Shortly after that I got the internet, and Sinister was the first thing I joined. That was about nine and a half years ago now.
The last B&S album I bought was FISHYCLAP and that is not likely to change, ever. I guess my favourite album is IYFS.
I'm writing this because I have exams next week and desperately need to study. Obviously, because this is the best time to do things that don't really need done.
Due a domestic incident I am currently staying with my boyfriend. Being away from there, well I guess its a relief in many ways, but I am having to drive much further for uni, I'm also concerned about Christmas and I miss the dog. I hate the broken family situation, and have always done my best to walk away when things get heated and until 'the incident' I always managed. And the first time I decide not to back down I am met with a violent response.
I really can't stand the thought of my mother ending up alone and lonely, it makes me so sad just thinking about it, but she keeps pushing everyone away and there is only so much I can do. The situation with her family was not her fault, but she's since managed to alienate most of her friends and those that still call occasionally, she usually brushes off in favour of sitting staring at her laptop all day. Sometimes she takes the dog out for a walk, but mainly she only stops to smoke.
Recently the boyfriend and I have visited a few forgotten places. It is absolutely fascinating!
One of the places we visited was Glasgow Zoo. It was only closed five years ago, but it has been heavily vandalised and there is very little left standing. Even knowing the state the Zoo was in when it was closed, its still very sad to see it in this state.
Most places don't make me feel quite so sad and return trips with fully charged batteries and tripods are imminent!
I treated myself to some new baby Tarantulas, they are ever so tiny and cute :)
Time to study, again :|

hello!
i haven't ordered it yet either, but i will NOW.
for those of you who don't know (the b&s mailing list post about it didn't seem come through on sinister), the bbc sessions cd has just been released! you can either get it as a plain old cd, an lp or a double-disc with an extra live cd. kind of like those b&s live bootlegs we fondly remember. i hear there are also a few signed copies you can get from banchory or in monorail in glasgow!
the mixtree went fine until some weeks ago when i stopped getting new mixes. and it's ALL your fault!
i'm going to indietracks christmas twee, and i hope you are too. remember to do your exercises everyone.
