While the rest of the world was suffering the ravages of el nino last
week, for some unknown reason the weather in damp old glasgow was
fine and sunny and last saturday it was even warm!!!!!!
Anyway I woke up at about eleven on this beautiful sunny day, saw
my flatmate and we decided to go shoping in town and do lunch. When
we opened the curtains to the beautiful day outside she said it would
be appropriate to put on le pastie de la bourgoisie, it was and I
did. Not much later after deciding it was so nice out we'd walk
into town, we set set of with said tune still ringing in our heads.
We took a scenic route over park circus and crossed the motorway at
charing cross by the pedestrian bridge and to our surprise at the
other side on a wall just behind sauchihall street someone had
written in large white spraycan writing- Le pastie de la bourgoisie
which was a bit freaky but nice, and made my flatemate start singing
it. But I went red and embarrased 'cause we we're now walking down
busy sauchihall street on a saturday and I get embarased easy, so she
stopped. But it was still the start of a beautifull day, and b+s were
involved and everybody was happy. Except probably Glasgow city
council. Has anyone else seen belle and sebastian graffiti anywhere
else?

>Since SARAH has given me no word as to whether I may join the
>cheerleading squad, I am starting a new movement. In the true tradition
>and spirit of high school, we should all be involved in extra-curricular
>Sinister activities. I know GENEVEIVE and I are both photographers, and
>I think there is someone here who works at a lab, so I nominate us to

>the SINISTER MARCHING BAND. We could also have sports teams and such.
>Maybe an environmental club also? And a drama club? What else?
>So who's joining what? Everyone should form their own clubs, and, in true
>joiner spirit, anyone can join any club. Yay!
I'm a photographer, and I also play the flute. I like this joiner spirit,
although perhaps we can have a Sinister Band, just regular without the
marching, for those of us who can't even walk and chew gum at the same
time, let alone try and tackle an instrument and march. We should maybe
have a Sinister Jazz Ensemble, so that guitarists and bass players don't
feel left out. Oh, and of course, the Sinister Yearbook, or the Sinister
Newspaper, or both, so that they can be filled up with real photos and Ink
Polaroids and essays and poems, and maybe a little 'Want Ads' section in
the back for people who would like Tigermilk taped, and then a parallel
list of those who are willing to do the deed.
>Where are the rest of the Americans? Maybe we've been hiding out because
>we don't understand such terms as "crikey?"
I'm Canadian (Toronto's my home), and I've just been hiding due to shyness
and homework. I quite enjoy the overwhelming British-ness of some of the
messages...using foreign terms comes across as more passionate, I think.
Well, sometimes, anyways. Us North Americans are just jealous because we
can't say flash things like 'crikey' or 'I'll give him a ring' or 'on the
telly' without looking pretentious, and British folk pass them off with
such ease. Lucky ducks.
On a tangent, has anyone made their own Belle and Sebastianopoly? I keep
thinking about it, and what a hit it would be.
This was fun. Perhaps I'll post more often.
truly,

just to let you all know that the fan club site now has a mirror
location, this is dua to our main server being updated over the next few
weeks which will cause delays and possible failed connections.
anyhow, the mirror belongs to the same company but is slightly faster
and more reliable, so should you fail to reach one address, just try the
other. this is important because all of the picnic details that i've
received will be up this afternoon/evening.
anyhow the urls are:
http://www.totalweb.co.uk/bluesoda/http://www.myspace.co.uk/bluesoda/
again, if the first one doesn't work try the second, also, it's a good
idea to create a second bookmark if you have the site bookmarked, as you
may not remember the url when you need it most.
thanks

Also my GRANNY likes B+S, which is pretty cool as she used to be a

So, did you miss me?
Once again, I've left my heart in Stockholm (and maybe my liver as
well). Now I'm back at work, wading through a million digests. You
didn't really expect a postcard, did you? I was far too busy enjoying
myself, I'm afraid. So maybe a couple of Swedish ink polaroids are in
order.
This one is at my new mate Jeri's flat in Stockholm, the first
night away. Marse and I have been drinking as nature ended for some
time, leading me to declare that "indie kids are all wankers", while
professing a deep love of Judas Priest. Three other (somewhat more
sober) people are watching, looking at Marcus who is attempting to get
a rug to levitate, while explaining that we don't need a taxi cos "we
can get home by magic carpet". I probably believe him.
This is me playing records to an uncaring public. Every time
I go to my drink, it has been mysteriously refilled. As a result I
have just played one of my favourite Northern Soul stompers at the
wrong speed, to slyly sneak the volume up while the staff aren't
looking, and to attempt to segue "Up town top rankin" into "Dylan in
the movies". Strangely, although at the bar itself the music is
deafening, the only other part of the place where any music can be
heard is the toilet.
This is one of Anna in Copenhagen. She is bent double with
hysterical laughter. This is because I have just attempting to ask a
passer-by for directions by raising my finger ET-style and saying
"Excuse me" in a nervous falsetto.
Other highlights included seeing Make Up in Lund, who were just
fantastic, discovering a Scottish punk band called Oi! Polloi! were
playing in Stockholm, seeing "Austin Powers" which ruled; meeting
someone in Malmo who was such a serious raver he could dance to
advertising jingles, and well, just being in my favourite country. I
never did get to meet Andreas (sorry), but hello to Stefan and the
mysterious Irish listee I met at Folkhammet, and most of all to
Tyskan, because she rules.
It snowed, but we didn't see any foxes. We did, however, spend 15
minutes watching two dogs shagging in Kristiania. It was dead
romantic.
Love

Hello All: I thought I'd let you see this ink polaroid so you can join
in on Pam Berry's very cool living room party :
It's saturday night, and i'm in pam's grand old place in dc. i'm
slightly tipsy due to a wee bit of vodka i laced with ginger ale. i'm
smirking cos i'm standing outside on the porch, eyeing the spinach dip
sitting on the kitchen counter. i'm scrunching up my face cos i'm
trying to think of an opportune moment to dash in and stuff my fat face
with this deliciously stuffed bread. as i dash in there, i find myself
surrounded by young hipsters, and i'm talking about sharing grape seeds
with them, while continually dipping my bread in this spinach dip that i
can't stop eating. suddenly i spy the 'pigs in a blanket' sitting on
the counter as well. i get so excited i nearly spill my drink as i'm
heading that way. then pam plays the lovely, lovely music and as 'dog
on wheels' is blasting out, we're all dancing the night away like
dancing fools.
well, that was my show & tell for the day. a big big cheer to Pam Berry
& the party that was oh so joyous.
ta ta, keep singing the b&s (i've made a convert now... big count: 2)
