They are kind of famous around boston because a very local band called
the Gigolo Aunts covered "Serious Drugs" which is probably the best
BMX bandits song ever.
The Gigolo aunts themselves are kind of funny because they played around
boston a lot but their records were on Alias, so you had to buy an
import to hear them. They were a favorite of local radio. The Gigolo
aunts were never particularly good, but just straight-forward power pop
youd be likely to hear in the early 90's. For lack of knowing better, I
always thought they were great.

OK, I hate to be picky, but frankly, there is. "BREEVE DEEPAH, DAYDREAMAH"
wasn't too evil, in a comedy kinda way- it WAS one of the funniest records
of '95- but the rest, well...
Anyhoo, just had to clear that up, didn't want any of yous thinking I was a
'fan'- I was young, I didn't know what I was doing...
Having said that, at least they had a bit of glam and class- something
which is always appreciated.
love and spangles,

dear all,
my tape of john peel's fairly festive 31 (the end-of-year listener's
favourite songs for those of you outside the great man's reach) starts at
number 24 and cuts the number two song in half.
within this colourful patchwork rug of music nestle two pieces of velvet, by
belle and sebastian.
the songs make me feel wistful and as though I were on stage in the play of
my life, in a claustrophobic box-life room, only for the scene to change and
I am transported into a green summer field.
nearby is the 'nick drake meadow' where ghosts of butterflies open their
wings to the sun.
what are numbers two and one in johnpeel's countdown?
what are belle and sebastian like live (the adjective 'amazing' which you
will probably use may show that they arouse strong feelings but is not very
descriptive)
i hope that they'll still be playing in small venues when i get back to the
uk in the autumn.
forgive my ignorance in all matters belle and sebastian

Message from Stuart M to all who took part in the online chat.

Sorry if you couldn't get on, first of all. I don't know if you missed
that much. There wasn't too many proper questions answered. I think some of us
were too amused and overcome with the possibilities of the "new" technology.
Stevie was desperate to answer the questions, but he is a slow typer and so was
swamped even when the chat was moderated. Also, this is actually the first
interview we have collectively done for years! Some of us are a bit
uncomfortable with it (never!- you say) but there was a genuine desire to
answer your queries. It just was a bit of a shock to account for our
thoughts and our actions in front of the others.
If you have any questions and things, perhaps you could send them to our
e-mail address and we'll try to deal with them there. It might be helpful
if you mark them for the attention of a particular member to answer.
Anyway, we'll probably see you when we play live because we're old
fashioned and it's nice to have a real chat. I don't know if you know about our
plans yet, we'll stick them up on our site when we've hammered them out a bit.
Thank everyone for the FELT questions!

Strike me down but Menswe@r aint that bad, surely not? For a cackpop band,
I thought they were pretty good. They haven't gone away either, they'll be
back very soon, so you have been warned.....If you want real cackpop then
see Hanson....
What else....Saw Bluetones last night and very good they were too, Regular
Fries were um, err, quite interesting, certainly different. A bit too much
like Spiritualized at times, but they were totally M.A.F. and nowhere near
as classy. I missed Medal though, which was a bit of a shame as I like to
support our local bands....
Speaking of which, Animal House were outstandingly good on Saturday night,
you'll definitely be hearing a lot about this band in the coming year,
'nuff
said.
Books and stuff....
Quite a few people have recommended John Irvings Prayer For Owen Meaney,
and I wholeheartedly add to that - it's a great book. Other books by John
Irving worth checking out are Setting Free The Bears and The World
According
to Garp. And there's more. He is a great author, so do check him out!
Another fine book is Kiss Of The Spiderwoman by Manuel Puig. I could write
some more, but my heads a mess and I must get on....

I went to see Mark Gardener's new band too on Saturday night, and can
certainly agree, that they were amazing. I don't think there's anything like
them around at the moment. It's really smart. The backdrop/screen thing behind
them was wicked too, all fractals and colourful shapes bounding about. Don't
know if you noticed me 'Kylie' but I was stood with Mark and Loz before they
went on, to the left of the stage. I was the one with the skin head !! Name
dropping over now.
To get back onto B&S, even though I said I wasn't going to mention them in the
header. If anyone, well, the first 10 people, want Tigermilk, sessions etc..,
then mail me privately, and I'll sort you out. I also have the West 54th
session thing too, so if you'd like a copy of that too.
I'm trying to avoid work you see, so there you go.
Bye, Ben.

i'm all for that eh, but April 12th is no good. Radiohead is playing
that day and it just doesn't fit nicely into my schedule. But then
again if you have to plan a national anarchy day around people's
schedules it's just not fun anymore. Just not the 12th, you won't ruin
my day, darn you!
uhm, anyway...
