Welcome to the Sinister Seniors, Mr McCarthy but your Living the Songs stunt
outdoes the rest of us, as in
>The following week while listening to it he crashed his car,
Obviously he was listening to
"...................... Sebastian
went too far again
crashed his car in the rain"
at the time. So, at least 80 out of 100, and full marks if it was raining when
he crashed.
Glad to hear the car got cleaned as an after-effect , but it's going to be an
expensive habit - sounded like that method of roasting pork by burning down the
house (with a pig in it).

How's this for a bit of cynicism, the girl next to me at work has just
pointed out that (she comes from the USA) - whilst talking about that most
British of things, the weather, she says that in New York the weather
actually tries to kill you cause it's so extreme, and she figures that in
Britain, the effect is far more subtle than that, in that the weather here
just tries to make you kill yourself.
Cheers,
Keith.

I don't think Sleep the Clock Around sounds like Stereolab at all.
The climactic bit at the end is reminiscent of mid-late period James (Ring
the Bells, etc), and the vocal tune is a speeded up version of New Order's
classic 1963.
It was January, 1963... Sing it at twice the speed, and there you have it.
Does anyone have the 7 inch single by Even As We Speak where they do their
version of Bizarre Love Triangle? It works at both 33rpm and 45rpm.
Squarepusher thinks he's so clever, but he isn't really!
Looking forward to reading about the chat. Can't make it: too much work,
yawn, etc.
I asked a guy in Ladbrokes if they were taking bets on Modern Rock Song
being Number One, and I got a weird look in return. Oh well.
Lots of love
DAVID

What about their mothers? I bet if Mrs Murdoch said "Go on the O-Zone
right this minute or they'll be no tea for you", the boy Staurt would
jump to it pretty sharpish. Or if susannah dangled those pictures in
front of the hopelessly weak-willed Stuart D., I'm sure he could even
be dragged into an appearance on (tries to think of something really
rubbish) the new Channel Five chart show.
Nick (who plucked up courage to install an IRC program on his work PC
and to hell with the consequences, but couldn't get it to work - have
fun everyone. Don't suck up to the band.)

Big star are, or rather were, great. I saw them play at Reading a few
years back. Alex has had an influence on many bands including TFC, The
Cramps and Uncle Tupelo to name but three. There is a recording of "I am
the Cosmus" on their Live at Missouri University 4/25/93" album.

Re the comments about the likelihood of being the only person to think
"Sleep the Clock Around" sounds like a Stereolab song and david's
response about B&S sound like B&S. It is somewhat strange to take
exception to people commenting on one band sounding like another
because it is a pretty harmless and occasionally even helpful activity. We
all pick up little bits of the tunes we love in unexpected places. I was
quite surprised to see Stereolab mentioned as being one of the groups
influenced by Suicide in the Guardian, for example. 'if You're Feeling
Sinister' the song, not the whole album, sounds like Love Is In the Air at
least the bass does. Now I happen to think IYFS is far and away the
better song, in fact LIINA is tosh, but I can still hear the similarity.

as a few people were confused as to when the chat starts this afternoon,
i''ve set up a countdown to see us through the last few hours and clear
up the EST, GMT, BST, US time problem
to view the countdown either go directly to:
http://www.totalweb.co.uk/bluesoda/cgi-bin/countdown.pl
or follow the link from the fan club site.
david
PS: i havn't been able to check this, so if it returns your time instead
of mine please let me know, as this means it's reading the wrong clock
and may be showing an incorrect countdown. if it's showing a time
different to yours (providing you outside the UK time-zone) then it's
working fine!
