the subject line has no relation to anything but I think it would be
mildy amusing to point out that my goth friend who loves Marylin Manson
and Korn loooves Bis too! heehee, now *thats* only funny if you're
bored..... Bis cross the industrial goth market... :o)
I think it was a Kate who wrote that B&S were doing this....
<<because they're sitting in the playground eating sweets pinched from
woolies?>>
um, no actually that was kind of *me* today except that we (not B&S me
and mes amis) were sat around the piano in our colegios main hall thingy
whatjemcallit. I heartily recommend to all you lovely listees the orange
fudge, but as for the Turkish Delights and those <<coconut???>> things,
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! Mon dieu they are absloutely degoutant.
Anyway, I have a question thing to ask.
Its seems to me that most people on this list are either 'indiepoppers'
with an immense knowledge of Field Mice and love loads of other bands in
the B&S genre, or (like moi) are rockypoppy rockers who like Manics and
Suede and B&S have struck a very jangly chord with, but are very
different to your usual tunes.....very sweeping statement there but
amongst the majority of personnes sur cet liste it has seemed to bear
out...... :o)
So, can anyone confirm or deny this stereotype? Oh go on I've ben doing
stereotypes in media studies and think this would be a nice thing to
have a heated debate upon. (Other than a nice afghan sofa)
I'M GOING NOW BYE!!!!!!!

Nice album, outstanding tracks are "Demain", "Les reflets", "The empty room"
and "Shame has spread its wings on me" ... an appropriate record to fill in
the time of desperation until the release of the new B&S album, now that
people already start falling for stuff like Air ...

Only wondering whether they'll be given the opportunity to support B&S in
the future ... the bass player, a disguised stand-up-comedian, is worth your
money alone.

Yeah....Standing talking to Stuart M. at the Sunday NYC show last year,
Mark Eitzel crept up and inbetween us and grabbed Stuart's hand saying
something like "Lemme shake yer hand man...you're just a genius man...it
was fucking brilliant." then he cowered off into the night. Odd, but
brilliant little man that Eitzel. I said "oh wow! That was Mark Eitzel from
American Music Club" and Stuart was like "yeah?" and i'm saying...."I
SWEAR! It was!" I don't think he believed me tho...just thought it was some
akward pop kid. Ah well.
shared soppy Belle & Sebastian moments......
beth
p.s. I saw a guy who looked EXACTALLY like Stuart this morning on my way
to work....he was driving down Burbank Blvd in a big, black, 4x4...with a
confederate flag on the back.....that kind of ruined the
fantasy...especially when he spit out the window. Ah well...*sigh*
Message to you Rudy --- no email yet? I sent them all this am...about 7:15

I will admit it--I found someone to tape me the entire Field Mice discography
since I was too young and foolish to buy the records when they were actually
in print. The cassettes are right now residing in an honoured position near
the stereo--oh, right next to my tape of _Tigermilk_. Imagine that!
And I can not think of any other band, indiepop or otherwise, that sounds
much like Belle and Sebastian. Oh, maybe a snippet here and there, but Belle
and Sebastian are much more singular in general.
Living and loving
Matthew
ps. Amanda--email me: I know quite a bit about the Ghent alterpiece. (That
sounds like some dodgy pick-up line. Actually, it almost sounds rather
appropriate on this list. Kiddies, now you know how to snag Stuart M.)

the problem with getting the list in digest form is that everyone has
already responded to the threads that catch your eye, so by the time to
chime in with your American indie-rock knowledge, its already exhausted.
but I'm still chiming in anyway.
Matador will be a good home in America for B&S. As already noted, it is
the home to Pavement. In addition to that they also are home to Guided by
Voices, Liz Phair, Chavez, Cat Power, etc. I believe they have a good
distribution deal with Elektra or Atlantic (sorry to bring the biz into
this, but we want B&S to have the widest distribution possible, right?)
The artists get autonomy on Matador, so no one will be butting in saying
"ummm...could you make this a little more like third eye blind?"

You think there wasn't a hundred clamouring fans on the phone straight
away?! By the time I got through the staff in the shop were fed up with
people asking and informed me that it was long gone. Anyone willing to
confess how much they paid for it?
Well, hey, thanks for all the non-existent mails thanking for me for the, er,
'tip'. Jeeeeezus. Indie tossers are no less polite than anyone else really,
are they?

Salut!
For the record, Matador's parent company is the behemoth Capitol Records
and to find out about the arrangement between the two, check out
Matador's site http://www.matadorrec.com/, which includes a long winded
explanation for all those concerned.
Speaking of Matador, I think it would be sublime to see Pavement and
Belle and Sebastian tour together. Let's put the pressure on.
