Hiya everyone.....just thought I'd better introduce myself and all that. My
name is Marylka (or call me Milka, why not, everyone else does) and I've been
suspiciously hanging around the list for a few weeks now, but I thought now
was the time to be open and declare my love for the most stunningly fabulous
group ever to walk the earth.
So I like Belle and Sebastian then.
I was wondering if anyone saw the ad in the back of this week's NME for some
random record shop....hang on, I'll check the name....Opal Records, and anyway
they had in their possession a sacred and holy ...you guessed it...Tigermilk,
and it said ring up to enquire. So of course I did, but *sniff* they'd
already sold it for £160!!!! I think this breaks all records. BUt worth
every penny, of course :-)
Have fun
lotsa love, Milka

Hi, and whoops.
So I confused Matador and Maverick!--those who corrected me nicely, thanks.
Those made angry by the mistake... take a deep breath.
Here's some more three-syllable words I could've confused with Matador:
Maskingtape
Masonic
Marketplace
Masturbate
Marabou (it's a kind of stork)
Maritime
Marinate
Masquerade
Anyway, I'm glad BAS is going to be on Matador, and not Maverick.
bye for now

A load of guff which involved adding up to find out about your ages..
went on to say.....
You should now have a three digit number:
The first digit of this was your original number (i.e. how many times
you
want to go out each week).
The second two digits are your age!!!
I actually arased doing this AND IT WORKS!!
I got 716 and THATS WHAT I SAID/AM!!!!
I am 16 and I said I'd go out 7 days a week. Oh wow oh wow. And I even
was clever and did long multiplication to do 19 times 50!!! Not even the
calculator next to me!
I can't do long division though.
I prefer JOY DIVISION!
WOW! Ben Ferneyhough you are a genius!

Does anyone know of any decent indie nights in bristol (It's all scary
'bristol scene' people around here, don't get me wrong i like the music,
but the people are all far too tall) all that i've found is Kandi Klub
which is alright but hasn't played b&s or Helen Love that i've
noticed...
And i think we should have a heated debate about little smileys rather
than the edinburgh clubs (bit far away you see...) ;o)
(I like mine to have a lopsided nose.)
Oh yeah - valentines day soon - anyone else think this is the worst day
of the year?
What else? Well why don't we pick a day sometime next month and then all
phone Radio One's Most Wanted (freephone i think) and force Dave Pearce
to play Expectations (or whatever) that would be cool.
Love Adam.

You think there wasn't a hundred clamouring fans on the phone straight
away?! By the time I got through the staff in the shop were fed up with
people asking and informed me that it was long gone. Anyone willing to
confess how much they paid for it?

Matator/Capitol is distributed by EMI Music Distribution...and I can
say we (especially me) have been on the Belle & Sebastian tip since
Sinister was released in the U.S. back in April.
I anxiously awaited B&S's decision on their U.S. label and was
ecstatic that they chose Matador which is a perfect fit.
BTW I've gotten a surplus of double-sided Sinister posters if anyone
wants them email me (sorry, but if you're outside the U.S. there is a
dilemma regarding postage.)
Keepin' it real,
Leslie.

the problem with getting the list in digest form is that everyone has
already responded to the threads that catch your eye, so by the time to
chime in with your American indie-rock knowledge, its already exhausted.
but I'm still chiming in anyway.
Matador will be a good home in America for B&S. As already noted, it is
the home to Pavement. In addition to that they also are home to Guided by
Voices, Liz Phair, Chavez, Cat Power, etc. I believe they have a good
distribution deal with Elektra or Atlantic (sorry to bring the biz into
this, but we want B&S to have the widest distribution possible, right?)
The artists get autonomy on Matador, so no one will be butting in saying
"ummm...could you make this a little more like third eye blind?"

Please, oh please could somebody do me a tape of Tigermilk and demos
as my already crippled copy has finally died a tape death (ribbon-y
innards spewing forth). I've been furtively asking around for another
for some time, but to no avail.
I could do a tape swop, and have all sorts of stuff I could tape in
return.

Any fanzines (old, new) with B&S? Sell copies?
I suppose they will tour once they've finished the ep or whatever. Everyone
wants Lapanese girls screaming at them once in their lives, right? ( if you
travel to see them, do they pay for the fare?)
Yours a toute vitesse,

Yeah, isn't it?

TBS are essentially the-bloke-that-used-to-be-in-the-Field-Mice-and-
Northern-Picture-Library (but whose name I forget) on dear departed
Sarah Records. First album was Her Handwriting, which is indeed
lovely, second is just about to appear following the recent single
'The Rainbow'. Go see the Shinkansen web-site for more info. And
whilst I'm here, you should all really own at the very least the Sarah
compilation 'There and Back Again Lane' cos its v.v. fab and in fact
constantly puts me in mind of a certain B&S....
Nick.
