You didn't hear it from me, but B&S are not in the top ten "Best Band"s in
the NME awards so far, neither are they in the top ten "Best New Band"s
either, so get voting... you can vote online at

Ah, how great it is to hear that folks in the UK have discovered the
glory that is Ben Folds Five. Their second album is really great, but
the first, self-titled one is an absolute classic. And they're one of
the best live acts around.
A Top 20 hit? Hmm...I'm not sure about that. I know that they've been
playing "Brick" a lot on the radio around here, but I don't even think
that it was released as a single. It may be top 20 in the Modern Rock
tracks or something...but then again, I stopped obsessively looking at
Billboard years ago, so what would I know?
So while I sit here in the hometown of Ben Folds Five, reading about how
all of you lucky Brits get to go to see Belle and Sebastian, at least I
can can take comfort in the fact that I have better access to more BFF
gigs. I've seen them three times this year (had the chance to see them
three more, but that would have taken some "doing"), and they'll
probably play here again. And if you think I'm being snotty, just
remember that I'll probably NEVER see Belle and Sebastian.

Electronic Renaissance
----------------------------------
Well it's the way to go so drop a pill and then say hello
Play a game with your electronics
Take a step to the discotheque, and people
Go outside where there's someone watching cars go by
And the city tall with steeples
Hand in hand with the electronic Renaissance is the way to go yeah
Hand in hand with the electronic Renaissance is the way to go boy
Hand in hand with the electronic glitter eyes (?) is the way to go
You're learning, soon you will do the things you wanted
Since you were wearing glitter badges
If you dance for much very longer
You'll be known as the boy who's always dancing
If you work for much very longer
You'll be known as the boy who's always working
Monochrome in the 1990's
You'll go disco and I'll go my way
Monochrome in the 1990's
You'll go disco and I'll go my way
Monochrome in the 1990's
You'll go disco and I'll go funkadelic man
It's the way to go
So drop a pill and then say hello

though i think it's 'are you calm? settle down'

i've been wondering that for ages... i tried writing a bit out, but don't
recognise what it's from
for what it's worth, here's my (flawed) transcription of the last bit:
"...and frequenting a kind of perpetual club for sages, philosophers, and
other idle personages of the village which held its sessions in the village
of course at the small inn, designated by a courtier of his majesty George
the third. Here they used to sit in the shade for a long lazy summer's day
talking listlessly over the village gossip and telling endless sleepy
stories about nothing. But it would have been worth any statesman's money
to have heard the fine discussions that sometimes took place when by chance
an old newspaper fell into her hands from some passing traveller. How
solemnly they would listen to the contents as drawn out by Derek Van Boore
(?) the schoolmaster, a dapple learned man who was not to be daunted by the
most gigantic word in the dictionary."
anyone know what this is from? i don't :)
got my tickets yesterday!! happy happy happy bunny

I've seen the occasional posting of guitar chords and lyrics for B&S songs
on this list. Is there a webpage that has these and more all collected?

Hi peeps,
My name is Simon and I'm new to the list, though not the band. Just
got me email and net gubbins so just thought I'd say hello and that.
Guess we'll see some of yer in Manc for the two (or maybe three)
gigs. We're all off up there (from London/Southend) in a manky car
driven by a mad ginger satan called Kev. Sorry, we have no space for
lifts, wish we did and all that. But we've plenty of room for a party
afterwards at our pal Kev's Moss Side homestead. Be warned though,
his friend Somhairle (said: Sauly) will scare you through his wiseness.
Anyway: all back to ours then...
Luv and hugs and kisses
Simon
P.s. anyone read my fanzine called Chipper - see David's Bluesoda
site for more details.

Dear 'Sinister'
Last night, I went to the Sinister chat room, fully anticipating an
informed and mature discussion of the nuances of my favourite 'beat
combo' Belle and Sebastian. Imagine my horror, when I discovered that
this 'chat room' was little more than a front for such scandalous
indulgences as cheap innuendo, androgyny, food fetishism and group
sex, perpetuated by a group of people so ashamed of their moral
depravity that they masked their true identities behind such juvenile
names as 'Honeybot' and 'Kinky'. I would advise any fellow upstanding
listees to boycott this den of iniquity and voice your discontent to
Mr. Paul Mitchell.
Please ensure that such behaviour never happens again.
Yours in outrage
Disgusted of Chorlton
Same time next week, OK?
