Blimey! Four digests to plough the fields and scatter
through, so this is a bit messy. Not to worry....
First...Led Zep are macho thoughtless unnchallenging
guff...I disagree. I like Led Zep, and I'm certainly not
very macho, nor do I want to be. Thoughtless? Not at all.
They've got runes. Unchallenging? Here, my wife's just gone
to the West Indies.... Guff? I'm afraid there's no arguing
with that. I guff profusely, Led Zep or no Led Zep. Was it
Agassi and Macenroe who did a cover version of
"Rock'n'Roll"? Some tennis players anyway.
To misquote Duke, I like Led Zep because they sound fucking
great.
Thanks Andy for the Top Cat websites, you dirty bugger. Your
glasses'll steam up.
Scott's Porridge Oats. The Quaker has a similar effect on
me. His smile is every bit as enigmatic as the Mona Lisa's.
B&S doing a Curtis Mayfield song? Which one? I like Curtis
even more than I like Led Zep. My favourite song is "Don't
Worry, If There's Hell Below, We're All Gonna Go" Because we
are. For the same reason I like "Trash" by Suede.
Tag and Keith together? You didn't make a video recording of
this monumental outing, did you?
Did I dream it or did someone on this list talk about
Salaryman? They're performing here soon (on the day of a
projected general strike, the scabs) and I'm wondering if
it'll be worth dragging myself away from Andy's website for.
All this talk of end of year lists reminds me of what a
treat I'm in for. I'm sad enough to put an X by the one's
I've got and congratulate myself for having them, and make a
mental note of the others in case I can snap them up
sometime. I still don't know why "Saint Julian" didn't make
it. It doesn't seem to matter for most lists whether the
album was released that year or not. Or does it?
I'll shut up now. Two more digests to go.
Peter

Hello. I've just joined this list, just a few short days after learning
that it existed (like I'd hoped) and just a few short months after
finding Belle and Sebastian.
The main reason I joined is to ask questions, which I have a ton of. If
anyone has the answers, I would greatly appreciate them.
1) I bought the "Dog On Wheels" single the other day (they had
three-count 'em-THREE copies in a record store in downtown Chapel Hill.
I take back everything bad I ever said about no good imports in North
Carolina!). So I'm listening to "The State That I Am In", and I notice
a huge scratch noise in the line "I gave myself to sin". So, of course,
I took it back to the store, but the other two copies had the scratch
too. Now, I couldn't not have it, so I just have to deal with that
scratch. The question is: Is this something that other people have
found on their copies? Or is this just a bad batch? Should I even be
thinking about going through the trouble to try and get another one?
2) B&S's singer is Stuart Murdoch, right?
3) Did anyone else swoon when they heard about that B&S show with
Magnetic Fields (who are great on album and unbelievably beautiful live)
in a courtyard in Barcelona? It's such a gorgeous thought, I have a
hard time believing that it ever happened. Was anyone on the list
there? Was it as beautiful as I'm imagining?
Okay, so the questions aren't springing to mind just now...But I'm sure
some more will pop up.
...I'm looking forward to this.
-Reid

all this talk of foxes paused poignantly below street lamps is just
making me envious of never being able to witness this 8th wonder of the
world.
i was at a BBQ last night though, and someone at the park we were
picnic-ing at had a puppy called sebastian ... and he kind of looked
like a fox too (the dog, not the boy)

Dear Sinister People,
Hello! How ae you this week? Today was a goodday..or a good ending to a bad
bit I should say,a feeling of contentmetn and things are resolved..I hope
this wil last long,I have rfiends who like to live in conflict,it can get to
be a bit much!
On the Lamcaque guy..Steve..I would've lie to see thetime, I don't know if
this is true..but I heard..when the Manics were first starting out,he asked
Richey if they were 'for real,or if it was just an image?' and Richey
silenty cut 'FOR REAL' into his arm..I think that would ve shut M.Lamaque up...
On recurring themes..it's strange,I will be listening to stories in Belle
and Sebastian songs..and they are just sort of lovely,I listen to them but I
don't anyalze them,untill a couple days ago..I needed a response for
English..so for a quick thing,I did Stars Of Track And Field, and once I
started writing about it..a whole slew of other ideas came into my head, its
odd...they can be interepreted a lot of ways,I always thought it was sort of
Stuart's revenge against classmates in high school (that is another
theme, underlying sort of?) but it could also be about those tv evangelists
that go oin and preach about God while receiving cheques? 'make a new CULT
every day to suit your affairs' soe of the liens don't really fit,but I jsut
get the feeling of a bunch of people who are really evil, hide behind a
seemingly moral idea or cause....they never know it,because you never show
it, (the real side of them?) Geez..I hope I'm not way off here, because I
would've really like to have passed that English response..
Talk about my dreams crashing against the rocks...turn out,I actually did
get to see my friend from England, for a few hours before he left,I was so
excited, going to talk to him about bands,I mention Suede only to be met with
a 'SUEDE! GAG' and lots of awful noises..he said he was an Ash and Sleeper
fan,I like them too...but,I didn't even mention Belle and Sebastian..don't
know what kind of reception that owuld get..but..my dreams were crushed
because he told me how awful England was, that I would'nt want to go visit
there London is terrible poeple will beat you up and that he's goign to
school in Ottawa for good in a year and ahalf, this evil! I don't think he
understands..how long I've wanted to go....him. wanting to come here so
bad..and me wanting to og there so bad, cruely not funny.
kisses,
Genevieve :)

. . . exists for all to use. It's just in prep for a test of our IRC
abilities.
On Tuesday 9th at 9pm UK time we will simulate and test an IRC chat. If
all goes well then Belle and Sebastian may join us in a couple of weeks
for a proper one.
This will only be an effective test if a lot of people turn up.
One of us will pretend to be the band and you can question us into
oblivion whilst someone else tries to see what control can be exerted to
help keep order amoungst the chaos.
The Sinister, Fan Club and hopefully Tweenet sites will all reflect how
the test will be run closer to the date (probably Monday).
So, if you would like to take part in the chat on Tuesday and need a
hand getting the software and using IRC then visit the fan club site or
Paul's site and follow all the instructions.
The fan club site already has download details, an FAQ, how to get
started and chat etiquette pages to help you. Read these pages before
you go to the chat room to help understand how it will work.
Please use the Jeepster room now to get aclimatised to this medium as it
will not be available for public use in the run up to the real chat.
A second room may be set up for you in the meantime.
If you already have software then connect to chat.virgin.net on port
6667.
Thanks
Katrina House (jeepster recordings and the fan club)
David Kitchen (fan club and fan club site)
Paul Mitchell (sinister list and site)
Any simple probs, mail the list and we can fill in the gaps in the FAQ
and help other people having the same problems.

The Joys of using University/College Equipment
----------------------------------------------
....because it seems that a lot of listees are part of the education
backbone (me included) and therefore using the sites systems to use
email then i thought i better mention that they have little time left
to get all that is B+S sorted....simply because Xmas holidays are
nearly upon us.
It seems therefore that talks about the two gigs, meets, travelling,
accomodation etc. will need to be finalised sooner rather than later.
If many are like me then next Friday will be their last day.
It could of course be that i am making presumptions and talking out of
my arse but i'm sure some will be affected.
Cheers
Rich
PS....Does this mean the list will be quieter over the festive period?
...or will the mountain of mail be as high as ever when i return
from turkey overload?
