it's just you.
that's why i get angry when bands don't include lyric sheets.

(subject line refers to GZM BTW)
In the Maker Steve latwat said the Colchester Arts Centre was on of
B&S's fave venues c'est vrai ou faux? je ne sais pas.
Oh, I'll make some Tigermilk tapes if people want any? I'm in the Uk,
mail me if you want them! I got a copy of Steve (thank you thank you!)
so its not from an original original if you get what I mean, but hey.
Whats this about a session on Thursday? We any closer to finding a place
to meet on the Sat gig in Manchester day? er, i know i had something to
say but I've forgotten it...darn.
BTW, everybody buy the maker and vote for B&S! I KNOW they don't need
the commercial kudos, i KNOW they don't partake in media rituals,
but..... wouldn't it be good if they won!!!! A triumph over music
industry scum if you will. Don't count fanzine writers in that, we're
all nice and lovely!
No, still forgotten my witty cultural discursion that Iwas going to, um,
discourse, so I'll leave you.
adios!--

Did anyone hear the session some (I don't know how many) members of
Belle & Sebastian did for Subcity Radio? It was on the Church Of
The Spoken Word show on a Saturday afternoon. I only caught the end
but it seemed to be a very "Century Of Elvis" type song, oh and the
studiuo seemed to be falling apart in the background and this caused
one of the songs to be interrupted with a very nice Burt Bacharach
song. If anyone has a tape of the show, I'm sure it would be
appreciated by all and sundry.

I'm a Thistle fan too - well not much of one, but one nonetheless, last time
I saw them they played Motherwell in 1979. Was born in the Queen Mothers.
Oh Chris is a Celtic fan.

So who do B&S support, as in football, as in the competition on
Katrina and David's fan club site?
Well I don't know, perhaps I should but I don't. But I think that
they might support Partick Thistle. Somehow the two seem to be
connected in unconnected sort of way.
So stab in the dark, longshot etc., but if the answer is Partick
Thistle, what is the chances of B&S supporting the Save the Jags
campaign since this wee team is about to go under?
So I've admitted it. I'm a Thistle fan (not a football fan mind, a
Thistle fan). I've come out. That was almost as hard as admitting to
Mary, my ex and best friend, that I've slept with her boyfriend.

Enough spraffle from me for now.

Sorry if the lack of Belle and Sebastian content in this mail
offends anyone, but you seemed like the right people to ask.
I *might* have to spend the night in Glasgow on Sunday, so two
things:
(i) what's on on a Sunday night which is intersting to do (and
preferably involves alcoholic intake of some sort)
(ii) anyone know of any reasonably places to stay or suchlike?
cheers

Infinitely better, I'd say. That BBC version is a pile of old poo,
and the original is a bona fide classic in my book. I remember
listening to it many years ago on my personal stereo in Princess Street Gardens, Edinburgh, about 7 o'clock one sunny morning, having
just arrived off the overnight coach from London, and thinking,
"isn't life beautiful". And I've never even tried heroin.

'Much better' - hmmmm. Lou didn't have the foresight to use our
Gabrielle in the original, did he, eh ? And before anyone writes in the
belief that they've spotted a flaw in this line of argument, well there
isn't one. I stood next to la Reed after the White Show performance a
couple of years ago. He's old, y'know ? I was going to invite him back
to my house for a spliff, but he was with Dave Stewart. And I don't 'do'
drugs.
Monica Queen sounds very much like Maria McKee to these ears. I like her
eponymous album, so I'll mark that down as a GOOD thing.
Talking of George Jones, his 'Anniversary' CD is having it fifteenth 63
minutes and 6 seconds of fame on my CD player this week.

I'm sure that this has been mentiioned on the list before I joined the fun, but
others may be interested to read about the events that (I assume) were the
inspiration for Belle & Sebastian's fantastic paean to the Sire records
supremo. The report is from the Glasgow Herald of 6/12/96.
CONSIDERING that they're two regular blokes from Falkirk, Arab Strap have
quickly made a lasting impression on the hipper epicentres of the music
industry. Or more accurately they've made a series of lasting impressions, some
of them physical.
For instance, after the duo's first public performance in August, supporting
Belle And Sebastian in Glasgow, Aidan Moffat left the stage in a drunken stupor
and fell heavily over Seymour Stein, the recordbiz legend who discovered
Talking Heads, Blondie, Madonna, and the Ramones.
Stein was sitting on the venue's floor, having jetted in from New York to see
the show's headliners. Despite his Strap-inflicted contusions, however, Stein
remained sufficiently impressed to press his phone number upon them.
