This is the second time I've sent this message, but are they're any fans
of Stephen Duffy subscribing to this? Stephen is another Nick Drake
devotee (He named his band The Lilac Time in homage.) and I first became
aware of Belle & Sebastian after they were namechecked in one of his
interviews.
Regards,
PHIL.

Sorry to hark back to the old Nick Drake chest-nut , but B and S
obviously have a lot of respect for him. I think Stars of Track and
Field... is a direct reference to Nick's own incredible prowess as an
athlete when he was younger (his long-jump record still stands at his
old school, and I also went to his college in Cambridge where tutors
remember his swiftness at running rather than his musical ability.)
Thanks for the help with the sheet music.

Hi,
today I booked my flight to Barcelona where the band will play at the
BAM festival on September 20th. I am wondering if anybody else is
going so we could hang out together?

Still GIlded Lil and Dominic Waxing Lyrical are from Edinburgh.
[Keith Watson]
Christ - didn't know that anyone had heard of these outside of here - Dominic's brilliant - dead funny chap, played in Glasgow a few months ago nude. Him and some other people I know got arrested last year for playing on top of Ladbrokes on the royal mile - Edinburgh city council don't like the disturbing noise - HOWEVER, they aren't upset about tartan twats playing the bagpipes on every sodding street corner and to let off shitloads of fireworks at bedtime at the end of the festival - nor is it a problem for every day at one o'clock to blast a bloody cannon into the sky and make everyone on Princes street soil their pants.
Still anyone getting a chance to see Dominic should go along, he's dead entertaining - although he doesn't like Belle and Sebastian much, I think there's a certain streak of jealousy here.
Fraid I can't say I like Gilded Lil much.

Information from El Pais newspaper last Friday. there was also a
fantastic competition to win two nights in a swanky hotel with Bobby
Gillespie.
And second prize is four nights in a swanky hotel with Bobby Gillespie?

but it would appear that Polar Bear are now known as Snow Patrol.
Obviously keen on arctic imagery!

Aye - some guy pointed out to me that the bass player chap who used to be in Jane's Addiction - his new band are called Polar Bear, so I dare say they've changed their names to protect the innocent.
My friend Cymon was disappointed they were'nt the same band - he's a big Jane's Addiction fan.
Cheers,
Keith.

I Know the Cardigans and the Spice Girls are not the same thing from a
musical view. The comparison was on the *pop* aspect of it all, they are
both under media lights, they sell millions of records. I don't like any of
them, but I know they aren't the same thing.

Note: There are two people writing under the same nick "Galaxie" in this
list. One is Regis and the other, me, Cecilia. I would also like to say i
don't share his opinions on Cardigans. It's a band I learnt to love way
before they became popular in my country, with the "Life" album (they only
made it big here with "First Band On The Moon").
So, as we are two, and we don't always agree on everything, check the name
under each comment for a full view on how much we both argue about music.

When B&S become famous they'll be put on all the compilation albums along with all the duff guitar bands in the charts, that won't be good will it? and I just know someone will come up to me and say "have you heard this new band B&S, they've just released a brand new album called you are very sinister, or something, I'll lend you it." And I'll say, well I lent you that album last year and you said it was shit." It's happened before it'll happen again. I hate the general public. I also hate the person who paid £200 for a copy of Tigermilk, that's set a precedent that has, now you'd be stupid to sell your copy for any less, more money than sense some people. If at the auction he'd backed off and let someone buy it for around £30, then all subsequent copies for sale would start at £30, but well, there you go.
