Sinister: chickfactor

hi there kids! i met a wonderful girl last weekend who explained to me what the song chickfactor is about. it is the name of an indie magazine run from new york and the girl really likes belle and sebastian. this girl i met had gone from la to new york to see b and s last summer and met the "chickfactor" chick there at the show. supposedly she is really big on the indie scene there in nyc. so the 5 hours spoken of is the time difference from the uk to new york. the song is about her and the magazine. too bad i forgot the name of chickfactor girl! jennifer trying to book a flight to chicago for the show there now that i have somewhere to stay! :) +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". Sinister: Paris gig

Hi ! Well, I havent posted much for the last few weeks, because of real life once again (the more I live, the more i hate real life... have you ever had this feeling yourself???). It's good to hear from jon g. again. Maybe you'll find it strange, but i'll always remember one of his posts, last year : he told us he prefers to stay home listening to some good music with bethey rather to go and dance in crowded and noisy clubs. Remember? Anyway... I went to the Divine Comedy gig in Paris two days ago. It was good, very good. You might think there is no Belle and Sebastian content but there is : he played at La Cigale, where our beloved glaswegians are going to play in a few weeks. Neil Hannon even played two or three acoustic songs, and I was surprised by the silence in the audience : I hope it will be the same when B&S play 'cause I share the Duke's point of view. I hate when people chat during concerts (and it often happens in venues like this one...) And I was wondering : apart from the French of the list, who will come to the Paris gig? I mean, will any English popkid be there? I'd love to organize kind of meeting before the gig and meet some of you again, so if you're interested, dont hesitate to answer... Last thought, even if it has been said before. You all know the lyrics of Rollercoaster Ride, "Looking out the window at the city below, Looking out the window, full of fun and sorrow"... The first time I've heard these lines, I thought about the booklet picture of Lazy Line Painter Jane : i guess it's a coincidence, but we never know... Sinister: theaudience are sooooooooooo goooooood

So Jim, You wanted to know what we thought of the bands you listed. Well I've not heard Surfboards of Canada so I can't comment, but have a look in the archives, I remember that a lot was written about them a while back. And as for theaudience, they are just so; 1 clever, coz the decided not to use any capital letters or spaces in their name. Just imagine how much better Belle & Sebastian would be if Stuart (wash your mouth out with soap and water, boy!) had decided to call the band belleandsebastian. Oh how different things would have been. 2. the new Garbage. It is a conspiracy, you see, get a load of old men to form a band and get a singer who is marginally more attractive than them to sing. 3.clever (again), because they have taken the idea of using long song titles from our very finest B&S (eg LLPJ , TWATTYBUS.) and given us the classics that are "A pessimist is not usually disappointed except on Mondays" and "I dont know enough blah blah blah". And they didn't even use an apostrophy in that last song title. 4. Cool. coz they know that nobody likes them so the members take it in turn to leave just to get publicity and stay in the news of NME (aka the i love Sophie Baxter Ellis, hamster girl fanzine.) 5 Haven't you got the message yet that they are not very good. Even Smash Hits magazine (my sister buys it, not me!) gave it 1out of 5 and they know a good album when they see one. Hope that helps you in deciding if you are going to buy the album. Gomez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't particularly rate the album. Long live "The boy with the Persian Cat" I'm currently listening to a Century of Elvis. It could be a giant millepede. And that would explain why Stuart M has an insect phobia, he had a bad experience while at Stuart David's house. And maybe Ease Your Beetle in the Sea, is a tale of revenge. I think I've had too many smarties. I'm so sorry, I know I should have thought of this before, but... I'm off for a gorgeous time at popstarz tonight with fellow listee and general object of desire Garry (if gruff scots accents float your boat, anyway). If any London listees, particularly new ones, fancy coming along, I'm the one in the emerald shirt (or I will be if I can still get into it), and Garry's the rather slinky flame-haired one in the tight top. The music's fabbo, it's in Holborn (not too far from the night bus), and I guarantee a good time (missus!). See you there... Went into Borders on Oxford Street, absent-mindedly picked up the headphones at a listening post, and a lilting, oh-so-sweet voice asked me if I'd love her as an eagle!
