Speaking of which, has anyone else noticed that the melody of "The State I Am In" is almost exactly the same as Dylan's "I Want You"? Especially in the chorus. Sinister: B&S in Rolling Stone

Well, not really but still kinda. On the charts page IYFS is number 10 in the indie section, so "Rah, Rah, Rah" for the group. And another rare sign of good taste: In this months "Musician" magazine there is a half page article on Richard Davies of Cardinal fame where he's talking about his new album due out in Febuary. It sounds pretty interesting so keep your eyes open for it. Out of severe boredom I took to searching the internet and decided to enter 'pastie' in the seek window, this is what turned up as a definition. I doubt its relevance to 'La pastie...' but hey, it's something to read......especially the difference in the two definitions given. pastie /pay'stee/ /n./ An adhesive-backed label designed to be attached to a key on a keyboard to indicate some non-standard character which can be accessed through that key. Pasties are likely to be used in APL environments, where almost every key is associated with a special character. A pastie on the R key, for example, might remind the user that it is used to generate the rho character. The term properly refers to nipple-concealing devices formerly worn by strippers in concession to indecent-exposure laws; compare tits on a keyboard. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Mind you they also released quite a lot of experimental (i.e. unlistenable) stuff. I believe Jad Fair (Half Japanese mainman) did some collaborative recordings with Daniel, but I don't think I've got any. Last I heard he'd been "institutionalised" (in a mental hospital) for the umpteenth time (he wanted to be as big as his idol, John Lennon, but couldn't hack the success (or lack of it?), and has spent much of his adult life in hospital). Many myths surround Daniel Johnston: once he was alledged to have pushed a woman out of a 2nd floor (?) window 'cause he thought she was possed by the devil. I was advised never to walk in front of him down a flight of stairs! I'm not however proposing madness as a promotional vehicle for Belle & Sebastian! I think the band would be better advised to get friendly with a soo-to-be-deceased member of the royal family. Didn't do Elton any harm. I'd say the Queen Mother was a good bet. say we wanted to see b & s on totp or this morning or or mastermind or countryfile or whatever, everyone on this list could send nicely typed letters to whoever was in charge of the show like the one below: dear < name of bigwig>, Belle and Sebastian are the tops, aren't they? Looking forward to seeing them on your show soon. Best Regards, <name of assumed identity eg Brian Clough or Betty Boothroyd or Christopher Biggins or Wayne Sleep> but then again, one might get into trouble. other promotional ideas: b & s could make a video of themselves and send it to bbc 2 's video nation "programme". the picture discs was a good idea i thought. simple, a forgotten notion. in my old flat we had a projector poking outta the window to advertise a dodgy manchester club nite and that has given me the (shite) idea that everybody on this dedicated list could "borrow" a slide projector and then make up slides of either this 'ere new ep's cover or their own b & s related images being nice and artistic , i've got a nice photo of me in a " i broke my heart listening to belle and the boy" t shirt, and then all around the country (indEED, THE WORLD) walls and roads could be lit up with abstract rubbish that 98% of the population (is that a good stat.? or less?) wouldn't understand and ... oooohhhhhhhhhhhhh... get me away from here, i'm dying.
