Here's my personal top twenty unforgettable Belle and Sebastian things: 1: on the rag/sleeping bag 2: my dad looks like elvis, etc... 3: that bit when George Michael goes "Ladies and gentlemen....mister Elton John!" 4: free tea on the National Express 5: the mother of all forward slanting pudding basin haircuts 6: Anders, Anders, Anders and Anders stuck in a train on the Forth bridge 7: Sarah's unfortunate experience with the Stylophone 8: Seeing the bloke in the local record shop scratching his head over the little story inside IYFS 9: Hearing my girlfriend/wife/whatever singing "Judy..." without realizing it. 10: The "is that your dog then?" comment 11: The expression "oddball popsters" 12: The Jonesy/waiter incident in the little ink movie. 13: Somebody's tin of sweetcorn when it was raining. 14: Keith writing messages when he's pissed 15: Seeing the cover of the new EP for the first time 16: Getting to number 41 in the charts 17: Stuart M forgetting the words all the time 18: Stuart M asking for the lights to be turned on so he could see the crowd in Barcelona. Absolutely no response whatsoever. Looked a right plonker. 19: Richard's drum solo in said concert. 20: Hearing John Peel play "...Fakers" on his World Service programme and follow it up with some "techno rubbish" and there's more..... OK, before I even start. That's 3 incorrect entries already, and as for the latest one, obviously didn't read the book well enough. THE BOURGOISIE IS NOT, I REPEAT NOT!!! THE MIDDLE CLASS. THE BOURGOISIE IS THE UPPER, RULING OR OWNING CLASS. IN MARXIST POLITICS/ECONOMICCS/SOCIOLOGY, THERE ARE 2(TWO) CLASSES-THE PROLETARIAT (THE WORKERS) AND THE BOURGOISIE-(THE OWNERS OF THE COMPANIES/INDUSTRIES THAT THE PROLETARIAT WORK IN), AND NO, I REPEAT NO MIDDLE CLASS. THE BOURGOISIE ARE NOT THE MIDDLE CLASS, THEY ARE THE OWNING OR UPPER CLASS. OK. In a related aside, I looked up 'pastie' in a French/English dictionary yesterday and the closest i could find was 'pastis' meaning 'aniseed aperitif' but also 'muddle, confusion or fix'. Close, maybe... Anyway, I'll come back soon with a nice message to properly introduce myself, but for the moment I was stirred into action by a few people getting a few important details essentially wrong. Hopefully they won't cancel there gigs like some other bands I could mention (Geneva -humpf!) I have started to compile a MS Theme for B & S (are there any already??) but I don't have Tigermilk so if anyone out there thinks there are snippets on there worth using (which of course there must be) could they plse mail me with them in any format (or even if someone is willing to tape it for me??? Will pay for all costs) Concerning gigs in Man. I should be around and will have an empty house (I think?) so there will be some space here if anyone needs a place to stay. Sinister: promotion notion

I think Charlotte's experience of getting a message in her BMX Bandits record is something we could expand on to promote the new B&S offering. I used to do a comedy show at Uni where we handed out free compliments to the audience when they bought a ticket. We could stick little compliments on pieces of paper in the CD cases/record sleeve and it would be a lovely little something for the unsuspecting record buyer. Something pretty. An act of random kindness. And we can say pass on this compliment to someone who needs it. Soon this would develop a momentum of its own and as it became the "in" thing for the modern hipster, the media would gain interest and this would raise the profile of our heros! And hopefully shift a shed load of units. [Keith Watson] Christ - I always assumed this was just "Lots of music in '72" - I suppose it could conceivably be Roxy Music, given that their first LP came out then... Oh... I suppose I should check the lyrics on the sleeve. "Mayfly" - when it starts up again, after seemingly ending. "Sleep The Clock Around" - when the music stops and leaves the vocals going, and then starts again (with a vengeance!). Sinister: Blank emails

Apologies for the number of blank emails appearing today - I'm working on it. Suspect it was a full disk. Also, I am becoming more cavalier about removing people from the list whose messages bounce - I'm just getting too many of these to handle. These people go on a separate list which tries to remail them when their mail wakes up and tell them how to get back on. It's usually the result of someone leaving an address without unsubscribing - please try to remember. Occasionally it's due to a mail misconfiguration at your provider (harrumph). This list's really growing just now: 309 people! The approx split by country can be seen from a link on the WWW page below.
