The first was with a full band which included a middle-aged fiddle player and was quite astonishing. Shivers ran down my spine during 'Ohio River Boat Song' and I was close to tears as Will sang the line: "Hey my baby, don't slip away" during 'There Is No one...". It was simply one of the most moving spectacles I've ever witnessed. The second time was just Will and acoustic guitar, sitting on what looked like a small, wooden primary school chair. The gig wasn't quite as good. Everyone laughed when he said: "This next song is a Prince cover." Will looked bemused - it actually WAS a Prince song, although I have no idea what it was. Other possible names for Le Pastie: La pastille de la bourgeoisie. Little candies that the middle class eats? Le pastis de la bourgeoisie. A clear Anise liquor that turns cloudy when mixed with water. Very popular among the middle class of the south of France. L'apathie de la bourgeoisie. My theory is that whoever wrote that graffiti on the Glascow wall was a distressed socialist who failed his/her last French exam. (And apathie is pronounced a bit like a Bostonian saying "a party") Oh, and the story on the liner notes talks about my favorite record label mascot: The Postcard cat banging the drum! In answer to all the questions about Seymour Styne, this is from the 'Ink Poloroids' book..... "Seymour Styne had flown in from San Francisco to take us out for dinner - and after he had told us all kinds of stories about The Smiths and Madonna - and told Chris he reminded him of Johnny Marr. " This should probably be added to the FAQ as the topic keeps coming up. My fav on the new ep has to be 'Put the book back on the shelf'. I love every single song B&S have released, but would anybody else agree that the tracks on the ep's are not quite as good as those on both the albums? > I know this is straying off-list somewhat, but just out of interest, is anyone going to > see Luna and The Pastels in Edinburgh on Friday. I was thinking about going to this. There's also a Stone Roses tribute band playing Edinburgh this weekend. Anybody going to that? John S. I have an overwhwlming scepticism towards tribute bands. I can think of nothing sadder in the world of music than pretending to be someone else. Then again, Primal Scream got away with that for years...
