On the subject of the EP's I Personally rate the Belle and Sebastian stuff in this order: 1. Tigermilk 2. The EP's 3. If you're feeling sinister I just don't think IYFS holds together as much as a record as Tigermilk does - I mean, they're brilliant songs, but invariably I only listen to some of it... whereas Tigermilk I always listen to the whole thing. The Oxford/Cambridge Yah Hooray Henry types don't exist. Well not in Cambridge anyway (except possibly Peterhouse College, but they don't count). Edinburgh Uni seems to be like Durham Uni; it's where all the Hooray Henrys go who think they have the right to go to Cambridge or Oxford because they've got lots of money, even though they've not got 2 brain cells to rub together, and then they find out that we don't take wankers like them here. Personally, I'm on a full student grant, which makes me just as down to earth as people anywhere else; all this "they go to Cambridge, they must be snobs" stuff is complete balls. Phew, that was a bit vitriolic, I don't know what came over me. [Keith Watson] Hey - relax - I didn't suggest that everyone who wen't there was like that - I did actually miss out the word "rejects" from the sentence which was actually what I meant to say. It is indeed like Durham Uni, Edinburgh - or at least so I'm told by my friend who went to Durham. How to describe these people... Dunno.... Home Counties, Inbred, Loud in public, very irritating? Difficult. Quite a number of my friends went to Oxford/Cambridge too. In any case, given the inbreeding I'd find it difficult to believe these people would make it as far as Oxbridge. Well Richard what happens is this - forward motion of the aerofoil ( wing ) results in a reduction of pressure above the wing and a smaller increase of pressure below it, this is called lift and it makes the plane fly ! In answer to all the questions about Seymour Styne, this is from the 'Ink Poloroids' book..... "Seymour Styne had flown in from San Francisco to take us out for dinner - and after he had told us all kinds of stories about The Smiths and Madonna - and told Chris he reminded him of Johnny Marr. " This should probably be added to the FAQ as the topic keeps coming up. My fav on the new ep has to be 'Put the book back on the shelf'. I love every single song B&S have released, but would anybody else agree that the tracks on the ep's are not quite as good as those on both the albums? > I know this is straying off-list somewhat, but just out of interest, is anyone going to > see Luna and The Pastels in Edinburgh on Friday. I was thinking about going to this. There's also a Stone Roses tribute band playing Edinburgh this weekend. Anybody going to that? well, morning off and a trip to watford. got to virgin watford and there on the shelves were copies of 3, 6, 9 seconds of light. two copies when i wanted three. but when i asked they said they had some more (two) filed under b&s in the singles racks. hooray. and then he shut my change in the till and had to ring for the manager to come and open it (the tills won't open without a purchase being rung through - some kind of security measure to stop the staff nicking stuff(?)). only he didn't know how to ring for the boss and had to ask the other girl working there. 'first day?' i ask him. 'second as it happens - i worked monday and then had tuesday off and i've forgotten everything...'. took about 5 minutes for this manager to appear but i had nothing else to do so... oh, i meant to ask how many copies they'd ordered but felt that might make me look too suspicious, like a chart rigger or something. oh, and the north london railways have now changed their name to silverlink. i think e.p.n.s link would be more appropriate because silver implies quality. they've painted some of the trains in a new livery too - bright purple and green instead of the usual grey / blue / yellow things, much nicer. they're still the same on the inside though. windscale / sellafield anyone? um, there's been a photo of that graffiti that people have mentioned on the front of the fan club web site for weeks now. photo by laura. hair by maurice. oh, matt n, 341 summer street still? and that bloke in hos pajamas? was it johnny fingers from the boomtown rats by any chance? 8) andy um, arse, arse, arse not really appropriate seeing as i got what i wanted but i thought i'd tie this post in with the last 2. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . have just had another b &s t shirt moment, incidents which are becoming increassssssingly common, 'n happen virtually every time now that i wear my bus t. this time it was the bloke in our college shop who was wondering "if i really was" the girl wearing a b & s t shirt last week. he has a nice smile and was interested in the crayons i was buying too, so i'll have to remember he's a nice boy next time i go there. last week the boy serving at margiotta corner store said he liked it and that he knows richard.... everybody i meet seems to know somebody who's friends with or been out with or eaten quiche with ssssomebody in the band ... and that 'ole bus shirt attracted lotsa attention when i was home south for the summer too, so it's not just being in scotland . has anybody had any reeeelly interesting t shirt moments out in "the fray" of the big wide world? the other kate ps is orange /brown bus one. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Hey guys, Theres a bit of graffiti in Glasgow somewhere on Renfrew Street according to my flatmates that just says' La Pastie de la Bourgeoisie' not sure when it first arrived but its definately been arond before I heard of the single realease, beacuse I can remember discussing what it meant with them... We also came up with cake, imagining a 'Let them eat' type situation. so does everyone else feel the same way, or are we all feeling a little fragile about our little bourgeouise beatnik pasts? ;-) the duke [Keith Watson] I'm completely in agreement too - I'm just surprised how much he knows about these kind of people living in Glasgow - there are none of them there. I live in Edinburgh where all the Oxford/Cambridge Yah Hooray Henry types come and it's unbelievable. Before coming to University in Edinburgh I didn't know these people existed. It's a case of any excuse not to do a real job, and to have a huge extended "holiday" under the guise of "helping people" (This, at least is the analagous situation that I see to the beat generation thing).
