Sinister: Dog on Wheels

Well, I thought I'd share with you that when I was about 5 I had a toy dog on wheels. It was brown with big black ears, with red wheels and a handle to push it round by. I remember thinking it was brilliant at the time, but looking back it sounds a bit rubbish. My album coice was TWATTYBUS and it worked pretty well, although the lyrics distracted me at certain points, making me lose my concentration. Can anyone help me put together a Top Ten Shag Albums? Suggetions for different atmospheres and partners are welcome. Ah, the smut. After just recently coming off of a flu and stomach virus that had me incompacitated for two weeks straight, i can understand the trauma that Isobel was going through. and, I love B&S because they, to me, represent the misplaced daydreamers that are so removed from the all the manly preparedness/properness/organization/ forethought/capitalism/hypermaturity/etc/etc of the fuctional mature powerlusting heterosexual culture. I love them because i am one of those misplaced daydreamers that they sing about. But with that said, I really wish just one of them would have had an ounce of mature leadership in their personalities and would have said, hey, lets go on tonight anyway, lets at least play these five songs. or I really wish Isobel, while she was blowing her cookies, would have said, I really want you to go on without me and do a handful of songs- please, for them.... I mean, after the first bloke came on and said someone wasn't feeling well, I was 98% sure that they were then going to cancel because of the nature of who they are, but three days later, i am still SO disappointed that no one had the leadership skill to have moved the band in the direction of the stage. here's me, getting into a yelling match with some abercrombie upenn boy in the balcony who kept yelling JUST ONE SONG!!! because OBVIOUSLY if just one song were going to happen, they'd have done it and not come out and made that announcement. like one asshole's going to yell just one song and the band is going to look at each other and go, uh, hey, we never thought of THAT!! i'm just sorry that there were a lot of people who couldn't deal with their disappointment better. ok, so here's me, being really apologetic for the rudeness of the crowd. here's me, really terribly disappointed, but *trying* to act like a grown up about it. ugh. i'd be thrilled if they came back and did philly and toronto at the end of the tour, but the idea of driving 7 hours to see them again is almost too depressing to bear. pennsylvania is always nice in my memories, but when i get back there... ugh. better show anecdotes: my boyfriend and i ate at the south east, right across the street from the troc, and there were these 5 or 6 youngish kids, real loud, and a girl talking about how when she saw r.e.m. she almost came just from seeing him sing. Sinister: toronto ink polaroid etc...

here's one of jj and celia, both very tipsy, grinning and laughing, clutching the bottle of champagne they were just handed for winning the dance contest at the duke of glouchester's northern soul night. endurance, rather than talent, must have been the determining factor in this contest - after their table was removed to make more room for the dance floor, they had no place to sit and therefore no choice but to spend the entire rest of the evening dancing non-stop. (the fact the djs had had learned that they had driven all the way from michigan probably didn't hurt either.) unfortunately lovely elisa isn't in this shot as she had to leave early to head to the airport to pick up tag (who probably would've won the contest had he not missed his earlier flight). - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - all in all, belle&sebastian's cancellation didn't stop me from having one of the most fun weekends i've had in ages. toronto is a great city and i'm really amazed i haven't been up there before considering the drive is no longer than driving to chicago and i do that all the time. i found a kid loco lp (abstract blues) that i couldn't find anywhere here, had one of the best sandwiches i've ever had (baked brie, tomato, fresh herbs on supersoft marbled rye - *yum!* and super cheap too - gotta love that canadian dollar!), wandered around exploring with friends, met up with some sinisterians at the public library pub, and got to hang out with elisa again for the first time a couple years - many thanks to her and her excellent tour guide skills (both in person and via email). the only downside to the weekend was the hangover on sunday morning (when will i learn that i'm getting too old to drink the way i did when i was 22?) and having to come home for school instead of getting to stay and play for a few more days. oh yeah, and not making it to vortex records. well i guess it just means i have go back again soon *grin* i'm sad that the show didn't happen, but hey, i'll see them one of these days. i was hoping to be able to drive to chicago tonight but unfortunately, the responsibilities of school are getting in the way (darn group projects!) so i hope everyone has a great time and sends lots of reviews in so i can live vicariously. and if anyone records any of the shows and wants to make me a copy, i'll be much appreciative! xojj * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * fantastic po box 4492 ann arbor mi 48106 usa http://www.fantasticpop.com * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net".
