Hi everyone, the last saturday ( 3 days ago) i went with my girlfriend at delgados's gig. It was excellent , they play very well live. After the concert i interviwed Emma Pollock and her boyfriend ( percussion player) , i interviewed theirs coz i collaborate in a radio . It was very interesting , Emma told me that they live in Scotland , so i asked her if they are friend with B&S and other scottish band ( like mogwai.....). She told me that they know all the band , is like a circle , but they don't collaborate together. She also told me that is easy to meet one component of some scottish band in a pub (B&S,too) , and when that happen they drink a beer together. It was a night to remember . Sinister: Black Friday

Hello All, Oh dear. Sinister-land hasn't been an entirely happy place over the weekend. But at least it's nice to see some people have shined in the face of adversity. Petula said: >Toronto's cancelled, but come out anyhow What a great attitude. I said she was a nice girl. And I was right. Lots of other people also showed more concern for Isobel than their own unfortunate predicament and I think that rules. FunkySeb mentioned the following: >'I once bit into a mouse's head and found a bar of chocolate. >How odd is that?' Mr Paul Merton said this on British TV at about 10.47pm on Friday night. It's a funny quip concerning a newspaper article about a woman who bit into a bar of chocolate and found a mouse's head. It was delivered in a deadpan fashion and was quite amusing. Just thought I'd clear that up for non-UK listees. Earlier in the evening British popkids had their weekly dose of Top Of The Pops and, surprisingly, the star of the show was none other than Mr Georgy "Porgy" Michael. Not only did he try and become Isaac Hayes for the first 20 seconds of the song, he then proceeded to camp it up in a tight police uniform with some lovely ladies who managed to lose their shirts during the course of the video. The one mistake was the re-emergence of that crap 80s haircut he had in the days of Wham. The video was actually too raunchy to be showed in its entirety that early and was going to be shown at midnight or something on Saturday. But I missed it. Bugger. Great stuff though. Later in the evening Eurotrash also had a Spanish bloke called Josmar on who was the unofficial Catalan entry for the Eurovision song contest and he danced around in a pouch, flapping his buttocks at anybody who would look. His speciality was singing about tampons which apparently makes him a hit with the ladies in Spain. Doesn't TV rule? Anyway, Alex McFerguson was a tad vague with the comment: >at least two of our party seemed quite upset when they cut one >scene just as Christina was getting out of the bath. Just to clear things up. I wasn't one of the two. Maybe Robin was though... I don't think smiling was the right thing to do Robin. As you get older though, you'll realise that all real men spend most of their lives staring at women's boobs (well, apart from the ones with no willys who just stare at other blokes crotches). It's nothing to be ashamed of and should probably be encouraged. You get a special praise award for using the word "boobs" though, which is in fact my favourite word in the whole English language. Closely followed by Barbara Windsor. Love...John PS A warning for anybody tentatively dipping their toes into the world of Northern Soul. Sinister: good things

I'm very proud of you lot. I think they call this "courage in the face of adversity", and I'm sitting up in bed here with my fluffy toys (one, interestingly enough, sent by a Fluffy familiar to you all) being quietly smug about how much better a place this mailing list is to be most of the time than any other I've been on. Viz my recent mail to the indiepop list which some of you might have seen today, and which you are at liberty to take as a rousing defence of you all and a routing of the sometimes unsmiling infidels (or a shameful defeat, depending on whether I get trounced or didn't notice that my trousers were undone). Nearly without exception, I'm very impressed how people kept their humour and goodwill about the gigs; I know some of you travelled a long way and spent a fair wodge of your cash, never mind hopes, on something that didn't happen. I'm rubbing poor wee Isobel's tummy metaphorically as we speak and hoping she gets better quick. And for those for whom the disappointment was too much, and well, lashed out for a minute, well it's understandable too I guess, but I'm glad there are others here who can speak for what to me seems like the wider picture. Starting this list one afternoon when I was bored often strikes me as the best thing I did in the last 10 years, and that's because of you lot, because I can tell you it was a "what-if..?", thursday-afternoon, idle-musing sort of decision on my part, but look what happened. So, jelly and ice-cream for tea, and you can stay up late to watch Starsky and Hutch(footnote 1) when I get better. Which won't be for a little bit, so sorry about all the unsubscribes to the list, which I normally stop and deal with myself, but tell them about the Queen Mum and the goose from the WWW site if you want. These emails are a bit of an effort ("why bother then??" I hear them cry from the stalls) so I'm not doing much list admin just now. So not much smut here, and I know there's nothing in the list rules to say smut is encouraged, but don't let that put you off because I think I like the kind of smut you all like. Doctor, give me another smut injection, I think it's making me better. Talking of smut, I'll be cheeky and also use this space to thank Damon for sending me the phone numbers of the Washington football team and cheerleader squad (I'm easy) who will hopefully pop round and get all those muscles working again that have been a bit dormant recently when I'm finally up and about. And to Kevan, who thinks of the mind and not the body, and sent me a Winnie The Pooh ink pad set. You, sirs, are gentlemen and you leave a poor shapeshifting girl with the vapours a little flushed. oh, how much sadness is here... i do feel for all of you, it's horrible to build your hopes up so much and then - nothing. i hope you are in a mood to read a poem, because i have one. it's by a man called Donald Davie, and it's called "Barnsley & District". i hope it goes some way to comfort everybody who's feeling low. Sinister: Random meetings

Someone wrote a while ago about us going to the same university but never having met each other. It reminded me of something that happened in the summer. I was walking through Kidderminster (known locally as Kiddy, or "big pile of poo"), which is really just a very grey, dull place and not the sort of place you expect anything to happen, when I saw a girl in a B&S bus t-shirt. It was an orange and maroon one and looked lovely and it brightened up my day, cos I was feeling a bit unhappy. I was going to speak to the girl, but I'd been grinning inanely at her t-shirt for quite a while and I think she thought I was looking at her boobs, so I just smiled. Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows if it would be at all possible that Belle and Sebastian might have the time to do the Phil. and Toronto shows at the end of the tour. I have no idea about their schedule (flights etc) and understand if its not possible, anyway.
