Hello beautiful listees, here is a sad ink polaroid from last night's philadelphia non=gig. here i am shivering in the cold cos i am a cardigan wearing girl, and i'm cold, cold, cold, cos we've driven 2.5 hours from baltimore with high hopes of B&S and we've been playing all B&S for the whole way loud and clear. i'm singing judy & the dream of horses, i'm blowing my nose, i'm thinking how long it's going to take to get to the beginning of the line cos we were even in the queue around the block from the troc. it takes us a good 2 hours to get our reserve tickets, there's that guy with the platinum hair, the bouncer, yelling at everyone to keep our places. we get in and it's a mad house, beautiful hipsters everywhere, and we stand behind the sound booth and we get the perfect view of the stage and i'm leaning there, thinking how great it's going to be, full of hope. then wee chris come on stage, looking a bit forelorn and says isobel's ill. we all are thinking, gee, i hope they can play. we wait some more, anticipating the worst but hoping for the best when wee chris comes out 1 hr later to tell us they're not playing. so sad, i nearly cried big tears and then the long drive home we played cinerama the whole way to make us forget our sorrows. i sure hope they play the dc show and that iosbel gets better swiftly, i don't think i could stand two B&S disappointments in 2 weeks. sadly and forlorn, wee chi chi +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". Sinister: Arab Strap

Voila my first post to the list of a non Belle And Sebastian nature. I just wondered if anyone could give me an Arab Strap discography briefly? I've got the Philophobia album and the brilliant Afternoon Soaps single and I wanna know what else they've done before, as i know there's been another album or two but i don't know the names or how easy they are to get hold of. Sinister: The Show Must Go On!

Mixed feelings this morning. On the one hand we have the welcome return of FlappySeb and his FunkyFlares, but on the other hand we have the sad news that Isobel is poorly. Hopefully it's nothing that a few plates of bangers and mash won't put right, but at any rate I think Philadelphia listees should go to the hospital and hold a sinister candlelit vigil. Whoops, I meant Sinister candlelit vigil! Silly me! As for the cancelled performance, I daresay one or more memebrs of the band had to accompany Isobel to the hospital, because otherwise it would be scarey for her. I'm just speculating, of course, but the thought may help grumpy people feel a little less grumpy. Mark Lanegan is a boring bastard. The only thing I can say in his favour is that he looks a bit like Spudgun from "Bottom", only without the charisma. Mike Johnson treated us to some acoustic numbers. He did 4, 27, 6 and an epic 4756. That was a little joke to try and make it seem interesting. >From what I could gather from the lyrics, both Lanegan and Johnson are in considerable emotional pain. I'm not bloody surprised, if I was their bird, I'd bugger off as well. The bass player used to be in Soundgarden, so I spent most of the evening estimating the size of his bank balance. It was that good. Claire, I've done your tape. It is mercifully free of Mark Lanegan, but I suspect it won't beat the Divine Experience after all. Nevertheless, there was a picture of Norman Cook manning the wheels of steel in the paper yesterday, and he does indeed look almost exactly the same as Mr Symington! I'll stick it on the cover of your tape, Claire. I need your address though. Sinister: is toronto on? help!

Sinister: hello is toronto a go?

Sinister: athens show

if anyone has any information about a cancellation of the Athens show, please let me know....I'm driving over 600 miles to see them (from Lex, KY) and it would be too terribly disappointing to hear that they cancelled. Sinister: bad bad night

Hello list, As was already mentioned, the Philadelphia show was cancelled. I think I heard all of Housemartins' songs before wee Chris Geddes came out and told us to go away. He looked so distraught about Isobel (what's happened to her anyway?) that I felt almost guilty for feeling disappointed out of my mind at not seeing B&S. And his "I'm sorry's!" are still echoing horribly in my head! Ohhhh. So, I'd imagine they're not going to be off to Toronto tonight, right? Does this mean the Toronto show will be cancelled as well? Is it sold out or near it in any case? Now I am sick (I was the one blowing my nose on soggy tissues) and my stomach hurts. Does anyone have an extra ticket to the Nov 2 show? I'm off to bed. Sinister: philadelphia and the nightmare it hosted

i just got home, it's near 3 am, we left at 5 pm...... here's the story of four sad kids with a dream: we waited. we planned. we slept in. we worked last saturday to have friday off (but a deadline at work made us go in for a half a day anyway). we bought gas. we drove for two hours. we got food. we drove another hour. we waited outside for two hours. we missed cinerama because of this lame trocadero procedure involving will call tickets. we were happy to get a spot inside unobstructed by tall people, and we learn that the show is cancelled. for the nervous scottish announcer up on stage, i apologize on behalf of that girl standing nearby who shouted "fuck you!!" when you announced that belle and sebastian could not play, emotions were/ are running high and what can you do if your bandmate is sick? i truly hope isobel gets well (or whoever is sick), and i am about to vomit from sadness over driving so far to see so little. all i got out of the evening was a hatred for traffic, some mediocre taco bell, and a nervous hopeful feeling for the dc show a week from now... PLEASE get well soon, if you can't play then, our hearts here in annapolis/ baltimore will break. i have never seen so many sad faces, it was a sea of heartbreak... everyone in line around us had driven from at least two hours away, except that crazed drunken camo-wearing guy who winged his half full 40 oz across traffic, shattering against the curb. this was the thrilling spectacular high point to my evening. sigh. sorry this is a bit fractured, tired and bleary. see you all in a week at the black cat, jason

Was the squeaky set from the Radio1 session? Mine sounds exactly like you described it. Chipmunk style vocals, very silly and I hardly listen to it because of that. But it was a nice girl that sent it, so I wasn't rude about it.
