Dear all, just a quick note to let you know that Isobel is still ill and the band will NOT be playing the gig in Toronto tonight. She was prescribed antibiotics after the Boston gig for a bad dose of the flu, which she is allergic to. We will keep you posted with more information as to the rest of the tour as we get it. Ok, how do you start? It is hard not to be selfish at a time like this. Ofcourse, one HOPES for ISOBELS'S HEALTH, but let it be known that Belle and Sebastian made the city of Philly awfully sick as well last night. LOOK, I already acknowledge Belle and Sebastian as the "most important music ever", which is why I was shocked, hurt, and surprised that they didn't care about us. I thought these people would understand the power they possess and how that POWER can make too many people want to jump behind a reversing bus. F*ck the $12.50! Couldn't Stuart find a guitar? Spending a considerable amount of $$$ DURING RENT WEEK for absolute SHYTE is a kick in the teeth. STRIKE ONE, Belle and Sebastian, STRIKE ONE. Can I describe my feelings? I didn't think I'd have to. I won't be listing to B&S to help me through this. So, one band member can't make it...is it wicked not to care? The wee sweet celloist is in my thoughts...I truly hope she is not bearing the brunt of a city in pain. Sinister: Toronto's cancelled, but come out anyhow

Dear all in Toronto, Due to the unfortunate cancellation tonight, I would like to invite anyone interested to the Duke of Gloucester to drown your sorrows, where myself, jj heldmann, her friends, and likely others (Lucas? Teri? Sandra?) will be soothed by the sweet sounds of some Northern Soul dj's as we down our pints and smoke far too many cigarettes. The Duke of Gloucester is a little pub tucked above a curry house, and it's on Yonge Street, about two blocks north of Wellesley, on the east side of Yonge. There will probably be a sandwich board type thing outside it with posters advertising the soul night, so you can't miss it. It goes til about 3 am, I might be leaving earlier for Pearson if (fingers crossed) my dearest gets on a flight (that's yet another nightmare which I will probably relate in a drunken haze to anyone who will listen), but otherwise we should be hanging there for sometime. There's no dancefloor but we usually clear the tables and cut some rug. Maybe I'll even win the dancing competition this time--I came 2nd last time! 8 pm, dress up anyhow--we've got our pride. Sinister: Philadelphia: CANCELED

An unbelieveable ending to two months of waiting: Belle and Sebastian cancel tonight's show at Philadelphia's Trocadero, apparently due to Isobel's illness. Here's a short version: Cinerama plays; B&S's equipment get set up, which takes about 45 minutes; about 30 minutes go by with nothing but the Housemartins playing; people start to get gitated; someone with a Scottish accent comes out and says that someone in the band is ill and that she'e been taken to the hospital, but the band will be on shortly, sorry for the delay; another 45 minutes pass and another person, also Scottish (maybe Chris?) comes out and apologizes profusely, saying that the band will not be able to play due to Isobel's illness; someone shouts "JUST ONE SONG!" and he just keeps saying "I'm sorry, I'm sorry , I'm sorry..." and then walks off the stage; the lights come on; everyone is told to leave- get your $ back where you bought your tickets... At this point (midnight EDT, Friday night), I'm too disappointed to describe, but I will say this (which is something I think alot of people will say): Why can't a nine piece band make due with only eight when 1,200 people have been waiting two hours in a club for them to play (and God knows how many months or even years outside of it)??? Sinister: it's the day!

Sinister: are there canals in america?

ahh, schooldays...i had a parka. It was of the manky 2nd hand variety, and i didn't like it much. That was, until my parents bought me a replacement from C&A , which was turquoise, and and some kind of mutant forerunner to puffa jackets. One day it was snowing and i left early for school and walked along the road instead of over the field. I found a duck's nest in a bit of hedge (nearby the river) and stole one of the eggs, my conscience beating wildly in my little skull. I put the egg in my pocket and took it to school. By this point i was feeling incredibly guilty, so i kept quiet about the egg. I even kept quiet about it when it broke and just harboured it in my pocket till the end of the day. My parents didn't mind much, i didn't bother trying to hide it from them, but the coat was never quite the same, and i wore the parka whenever i could. Even though my ability to look freakish and feral shone through particularly well in it. Thinking about it, it's a good job i didn't wear it to secondary school. They'd have had the social worker onto me a lot sooner than year 8 then. There's photos of me sporting the turquoise affair, in the hen run, my hair in a sweet little bob, holding a chick. It looks very innnocent. What i *recall* is that i was 'teaching' the chicks to fly, by throwing them in the air and letting them do the rest. Which they didn't. Like dysfunctional harrier jump jets (slightly). Again my parents didn't mind much. Lucky the social worker didn't get to hear about this. just spouting crap really, hoping to say something good, kinda like finding a ruby in a pile of clay. alix ( first name basis?) campbell just to add, what are people's middle names, this is an obsession i have, coz mine is perverse(at least in oxfordshire), i find them more interesting than first names. i knew a girl once who refused to admit her middle name, which was barbara, i don't know why though. +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net".
