Sinister: i think it is time...

Yesterday as I waited for the bus, a suited man hovered around. He began distributing bibles to everyone around me. Then he just walked past me. Now, I didn't particularly want a bible, but I thought he could have at least offered. Or, does he know something about the state of my soul that I don't? I guess I should call my brother the minister to decipher the meaning of this, or a fortune teller. Oh, I guess you noticed--those are my bags by the door. Darling, I think I need a little space. I have been subscribed for over a year now, and I just feel that we have grown apart. I need some time to wander. Of course I will return (how could I not?) In the meantime, please take care of yourself. Do you realize how beautiful and special you are? This is the last living and loving you will hear from me for a few weeks; I think I might cry. Sinister: A Message from the Dairy Council

Greetings to the Sinister 700. My, how you've grown! : ) I have been so busy lately writing and answering private e-mails that I have had almost no time to post! However, the recent cheese thread has moved me to share my favorite fromage with my fine friends from around the globe. The cheese is, in a word, Morbier. As our French listees will know, Morbier is a semisoft cow's milk cheese from Franche-Comte. It has a creamy brown crust, and the interior has two layers of cheese separated by a thin, flavorless layer of vegetable ash. The morning milking is on the bottom, while the results of the evening milking reside happily on top. There is a subtle difference between the two layers, but you really have to be "in the zone" to detect it. Sometimes a bit of Turkish hashish will sharpen the senses. I find that this cheese, after sitting out all day, really begins to show its true character when accompanied by an inexpensive Burgundy. Morbier's nutty flavor, combined with its aroma of fresh hay, is perfectly complemented by the earthiness and raspberry qualities so typical in a young, impetuous Burgundy. ; ) Add a crusty loaf of golden raisin-fennel bread, a wool blanket, and a list crush -- and you have the perfect autumn picnic. As a true norwegian i must say that i love your discussions about our cheese, but i must say that you haven't tasted anything yet... Go to your favourite Cheese-store, or (if in US) Cheese- supermarket or Cheese-mart, and ask for a bit of "Pultost" or "Pultcheese". (translated directly to english it actually means fucked cheese...) I promise you, you will never speak of scandinavian cheese ever again.... Those of you who are directly related to Evil Kneivel (famous stuntman) should go straight on to the "Gammelost" or "Oldcheese". It makes the english Stilton smell like a freshly bathed babys bottom. For the rest of you that are not suicidal, "Norwegian Jarlsberg" is absolutely delicious.... Hello you wonderful 734, Thanks very much for all the cheese suggestions, I haven't been able to get my hands on any as of yet though. Only basic cheese like gouda and edam, and feta and cheddar. And parmesan. Am I making you hungry (rhetorical question)? Cheese is good conversation material. Like talking about the weather. All this talk about unreleased songs has made me a bit jealous. I don't have any of them besides Tigermilk and the 2 Radcliffe sessions. I resisted in the past from bombarding the list with this enquiry, but since everyone's getting on each other's nerves anyway, I thought I might as well have a go at it. SO! could anybody tape me the unreleased songs, like Rhoda, Lonliness of Middle Distance Runner, Pocketbook Angel, Slow Graffiti, etc.?? I could offer something extraordinary in return. EXTRAORDINARY! I hope that caught your eye. Now I better think of something extraordinary. oh hello. you all dont know me. my name is robin, and i am a young girl who currently resides in berkeley, california, usa, and who plans on getting out of here as soon as i finish my degree. i know you all have stopped discussing the merits of various cheeses, but in reply to a man (?) who calls himself (herself?) Sinister: cats and cabbage

One of my cats is eating leftover cabbage on the kitchen table, and i don't know whether to tell her not to or just leave her to it. Nobody else will eat the cabbage anyway, so i think perhaps i will let her eat as much as she wants. She doesn't usually eat cabbage, but then, who does? I'm sorry if someone's put this up before (i'm on the digest so i'm not sure... ooh, that rhymed), but with all the northern soul interest going around i thought i'd share with you this snippet about the bbc radio 2 program that's on on wednesday night... In 'All Singing, All Dancing, All Night' (9pm, R2), Stuart Maconie tells the story of Northern soul, the club scene of the seventies that had at its epicentre the legendary Wigan Casino, where lovers of obscure sixtie's soul would come dressed in huge flares, tight vests and flat brogues for amphetamine-fuelled all-night dancing sessions. He plays many classic tracks from the genre, including the incredible Tainted Love by Gloria Jones, later made so famous by unlikely Northern Soul fans Soft Cell. That's out of the Guardian's 'Guide'. Where it says 'sixtie's', that's them not me. i thought i'd leave it in for authenticity's sake. And you know what? i typed that bit up 'cos i love you, even if you do scare me a little sometimes (so i don't write much messages). My nice friend lent me his copy of tigermilk the other day, when i stayed at his house after we went to see Kenickie (but don't get excited, i slept in his little sister's room). Ooooooooooh, it's nice.
