It's not like he has a new book or something to promote (ok, so yeah he does) but then, right after a segment with Julie Christie talking about her favorite cheeses? Never mind I made that last part up - I say, beware, the press are on us like hawks. It's all that rubbish about B&S fans being a "cult". Look, there's some Korn fans over there who look like trouble, spy on them!! Can anybody from glasgow provide a couch/floor/flowerbed/damp cement area in the basement for me to sleep on for that New year's meet-up thing? Yeah it's a bit early to ask, but...anyway, I'm house-trained and can, uh, make it "worth your while", nudge, nudge (i.e. buy you a drink or something). hello all, i've been a bit of a stranger lately, not really up on my emails as school is monopolizing my time, but i guess it wouldn't hurt if i posted something since, after all, i *am* helping allan sort out the toronto meet (october 24, send email if you'd like to join because we all love you, really). it's so cold here, very gloomy and rainy and not at all a good day to be outside. i got soaked coming in and now have a deep chill that isn't going away. i've bundled myself up in blankets and turned the heater on, and i'm brewing some chai tea as i write, putting off my homework as usual because i'm not in the mood to do any sort of constructive thinking about either intercountry adoptions or stages of family development. sounds thrilling, yes? a word about cheese: this thread got me all excited about cheese, i hadn't had any really good ricotta or mozzarella for ages (which could have something to do with my total lactose intolerance, but i digress...) so i went to the market today and got some good looking three-cheese tortellini and was subsequently very sick. i'm all better now, thank you, but i just figured i should inform you that you all have some very persuasive and tantalizing descriptions of cheese dishes, able to sway even stubborn and intolerant me. all of a sudden, there are all these good shows happening! belle and sebastian, rachel's, cat power...and i missed fantastic plastic machine, who i had heard were superb. it's not good, though, me having to spend all this money on shows and book all these nights off work. i'm slowly getting up the courage to begin making a b+s tape for my crushboy, which i've been meaning to do for quite some time now but have been a little scared of. not that he would automatically know it was a crushtape, i'm also trying to talk him into going to the b+s show - i'll make a convert out of him yet. i hope. and if not, he'll still be positively lovely to look at. no harm in trying, i say. take care, sinisterines. don't be swayed by popular opinion and eat things you have bad reactions to. truly, jessicaxo +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". Sinister: B&S get drunk or something

Hey kids, Someone (Peej?) said we ought to have a European tour diary from Mr. Murdoch by now, but seeing as we don't, I have a paltry substitute for you. I was perusing the Candle Records webpage, home of the Lucksmiths, and I found this Guestbook entry at the very top (I have left his typos intact): ----- On 14-Oct-98 Geoffrey (geoffrey_murry(a)hotmail.com) from Munich, Germany wrote: I had the (surprise) pleasure of seeing the Lucksmiths open up for Belle and Sebastian at the Praterinsel here in Munich. They were excellent, although I'm sure the vast majority of the audience did not 'catch' the witicisms in their songs and also in their onstage comments (Oksoberfest, ha!). My colleague -- drug along by me at the last minute after I was flaked on by my original date -- loved the band as well, much to my surprise, as I had him pegged as only liking music with 200 beats pet minute at least. I would hasten to add that the Lucksmiths had their shit together to a far geater extent than the disappointing Belle and Sebastian, who all seemed to be drunk or something on stage. Too bad. And listen to your Uncle Geoffrey, who tells you they have their shit together (fnar fnar). You will thank me, even if you do not get their North Fitzroy humor. Sinister: Tigermilk and Matador

Hello, This is my first post on this wonderful list, so i hope that i send it correctly. Anyway, a friend of mine e-mailed Carrie at Matador Records to find out if there are any plans to re-release Tigermilk in the US. She replied and said that their plans are to re-release it some time in the future. At this point all the details have not been worked out. In addition, she also mentioned that Matador may release all the singles on one cd. Has anybody heard anything to this effect? Does anybody have any more information concerning this. If it is true, it makes me somewhat delighted to hear that I wont have to cringe every time that i listen to my sub-par bootleg copy of Tigermilk. Also, does anyone know of any spare tickets for the Chicago show? I know that they are a pretty hot commodity, but my university's indie music club is trying to turn the concert into a group outing. Hello Everyone!!!!! I hope you lot find this cheese debate as amusing as me. I ate some grand cheese yesterday just before I went to bed ....mmmmmmmm.. camambert (is this how you spell it??) , it was wonderfull!!!!! And the danish fedost , its probably called something else but I donŽt remember , is lovely as well ..... and the hungarian Trapista is also a superb yellow cheese. But few cheese can bring more enjoyment to oneŽs day than a plate full of Kalimpong-cheese with some lovely chipati and curd................ has anyone on the list seen/heard the Monty Python sketch about this cheese-shop ??????? Sinister: bliss and happiness and oh yeah, a request too!

Yeah! It's only two more weeks to the Athens show. :) Since I am one of those people that only writes like once every 6 months, I think it always seems like I'm a newbie. No matter, I suppose. I just wanted to tell you all that I am incredibly jubilant because: I've got a Belle and Sebastian poster now. It's the only poster I have on my wall so far and I love it. Well, it's just the cover of TWATTYBUS, which I know most of you EVIL fiends (just kidding :) ) don't like, but I like it and wee Chris rocks my world. And I heard this girl on my hall playing Tigermilk! Not only that, but it was She's Losing It...I love love love that song so much. I feel like I've found a kindred spirit now, even though so far I've been too shy to talk to her about them. Or anything, for that matter. You know how it is when you find someone who really loves something you really love? Okay...if you're still reading this, about my request: yes, you were right, I'm wondering if anyone could make me a tape of the unreleased songs. I've got the two Radcliffe sessions, but I have yet to hear Slow Grafitti, Pocketbook Angel, and all those other songs I don't feel like listing now. Of course I'd offer some sort of compensation...we could work something out, I'm sure. Oh yeah, I'm in the US so if possible it might be better for someone here to make me a tape, but if there are any kind and generous souls overseas I'd be willing to work with them, too.
