I found it highly enjoyable, but then I would say that, wouldn't I? I particularly enjoyed Dickon Edwards' performance as Brian Slade. I'm disappointed to see that Stuart Murdoch continues to be typecast, appearing here as one "Jack Fairy". If the acting is occasionally dodgy, the music is uniformly ace... Yes, even the bit with the poisoned dwarf out of Placebo murdering 20th Century Boy is good for a hoot. Sinister: Rung and Two Fish

I've just spent a highly enjoyable couple of hours reading the Dukester's "Young and Foolish" book, which the postie kindly brought this morning. I'm particularly thrilled to see that my preference for Denim over Felt has been immortalised. I imagine that in hundreds of years' time people will stare at it agog and ask each other "Who is this pop prophet "Peter", a man with the foresight to see that Denim were much better than Felt?" Well, I don't suppose they'll use the word "foresight", because it's wrong, but that's the great thing about pop, it's all about a feeling. Whoops, I appear to be under the influence. New listees can indeed enjoy some of the sparkling debate that went on round these parts exactly one year ago, spooky though it may seem. I've also started a great Cuban book, the Dirty Trilogy of Havana. It's got plenty of smut, including an entirely new concept to me, up the bum sex. Has anyone ever heard of it? The book, I mean. It's by Pedro Juan Gutierrez. T minus three hours! We get the space shuttle launch live on the telly tonight because there's a Spanish bloke going. I'm going to get totally fucking zonked on uppers and downers so that it freaks me out even more. If I can find any in the fridge, that is. I saw a film, "Manny and Lo", at the pictures. Most listees would probably enjoy it because it's quite twee at times and deals with the one of the list's major preoccupations, unwanted teenage pregnancies. I meant to waffle on about it the other day, but I think I forgot. For my next trick, I shall consume two mandarin oranges, because I'm hungry. Wow! it's released at last! Any date for me to put in my diary anyone...? I have to admit that while I do love MRS, I really don't think it's the best thing they've done, and this seems to be the consensus out there. Sorry if I've been neglecting you all it's just that the digests have stopped coming for some reason or other. Don't worry honey, I know who the culprit is, and it's this ever-so-slightly dodgy network. All I want to say is that why would you let a stray dog into your house? Meanwhile, in my ever-so exciting life I'm not just an a&r man (send me your tapes UK people!) I also appear to be in a band now, which reeks of nepotism but hey, isn't that what makes life worth living? For reasons beyond my control the band is called 'Stolen Grand' and I play not-sure-but-seemingly-third-guitar. This is all 100% theoretical as all we've done is get drunk, watch flash gordon and listen to a CD of previously unreleased Beach Boys stuff. Can't remember what it's called, but there is a really nice song called 'Brian's Back' Oh, and Mister PJ Miller said... > Also shockingly expensive is the Spiritualised live album. I think the programmes start at about 9.30ish but do check first. Oh and P.S. there is a feature on B&S in this months Select. Sinister: Brighton, looking good for your money.

Dear All, It seems as though Brighton is quite a popular venue for a possible Listee meet up. I like the idea of meeting on the pier, even though I'm convinced the sea is quite evil and can only bring harm to mankind. How many of you live in Brighton? I've been here for six weeks now. It seems like quite a nice place. Even though I'm currently living on a sofa I feel quiet at home. Maybe there's something in that. I dunno. We've got a friend called 'Junky' Justin come down to visit us from Durham. His favourite escapade is drinking 10 pints, taking loads of Acid and driving around the streets in his ford Anglia. He's not really a junky I suppose, just likes to get off his head. Junky sounds more glamorous though doesn't it? He's quite a weedy chap who used to have dreadlocks but now works for a cement company. He used to wear his dreadlocks under a psychedelic beenie hat. Him and his friend used to do this really strange dance to the Mary Chain which would involve sitting down and leaning against a pillar in the middle of a round dancefloor (Le Phonographique,Leeds) and looking very bored, or maybe he was just off his head again, I don't know. I could always ask him tonight when I get home from work. Tonight I am DEFINITELY going to buy some cheese, and wine, I could make Fondue. Maybe if people do decide to meet up it would be a good idea to have a fondue on the beach, seeing how the list is quite into it's cheeses. Merci, merci. (Best said in a Glaswegian accent). I've been told by a reliable source that the reason for Isobelle's illness wasn't as innocent as we've been told. Apparently the heady rock 'n' roll lifestyle had been getting to her, and she started experimenting with illicit music. On the night before the Philly gig she was bonking, not to her usual Jacqueline du Pre, but to Oasis!! She spent the next day claiming B&S were 'the best band in the world' and giving the two fingers to people (I was also told she grew an unkempt beard but I don't believe that). The reason that the gig was cancelled was that Richard, who is quite into rock 'n' roll, became infected also and turned his kit into a 50 piece MONSTER KIT. Which he insisted on playing with one hand. Thankfully, after checking the list, Stuart was able to administer a course of suitable Lurve Grooves and all was better. As a way of thanking the list, the band have decided to release Just A Modern Rock Song and, as a special treat, will make it snow on the day of its release. >"Son" means bran, in this case.
