Hello Little Sisters and Brothers in Jesus, Good article about Belle and Sebastian in Sweden's "Pop" magazine (thank you lovely lovely Tyskan, I'm still waiting for your first post to the list). They put 'IYFS' at Number 15 in their LPs of the year, (in a wonderfully Radiohead free chart) and said ... "Independent as fuck" är hip hop trion Company Flows slogan men den borde användas av Belle and Sebastian, Glasgows skyggaste sjumannaorkester. De ställer aldrig upp på bild och bannlyser A&R män från sina konserter. "If you're feeling sinister" fylls av blås, stråker, vänliga melodier och underfundiga texter. Ljudet av det Skottland ekar fortfarande. ... which I'm sure you all agree with wholeheatedly. What's all this about the Scatman, then Keith? I heard those songs too many times on holiday. Of course this can be a good thing. "Mr Vain", and that Bailando song that haunted me last year, for example are classics of out time. I managed to embarrass my fellow DJ by playing Bailando at the end of my set, then just walking away so it looked like he had put it on, leaving him to wave his arms and mouth "it wasn't me, honest" at ridiculing punters. But as a result of holiday overexposure, I now despise (with every inch of my being) that bloody Sash and his clown of a mate who hollers 'Ecuador'. As for poor Scatman himself, I'm afraid it's "Oi John - NO! I admire your Stephen Hawking like triumph over your speech impedement, but if you come round here with singing your catchy yet irritating brand of Cleo Laine meets Johnny Dankworth Eurodisco, I shall have to give you a slap". Mind you, I got really into Julio Iglesias (a footballer like Albert Camus) in Romania, they played him in cafes, on the buses (including the evil Vampire Bus of Death with doors that remained open for the entire journey while I hung on to the rail for dear life watching the tarmac speed below me and closed only in an attempt to sever my arm). Riding on these particular city buses for a hobby is fatal. Oh and Northy's so-called friend, I have no wish to see a picture of our dear departed, I would rather savour my own image of him, radiant and gently smiling his all-knowing, all-loving smile, like the angel he undoubtedly is. I have recently read the book "Jack and Janet". It tells the story of three siblings and their adventures together. In one, Jack's friend wishes to trade his pen-knife for Jack's puppy. In another, Jack, Janet and their pudgy little sister make funny heads out of paper bags and run around the neighborhood in them. Sinister: No Northy, No Comment

Glad to see that Northy walks it like he talks it. Not so glad to see him disappear, albeit temporarily. Until he's handed in his coursework, eh? This kind of dedication, coupled with his rabid right wing views, suggests to me that we may be hearing a lot more about Northy in the future.....possibly in the year 2037 general elections. While we're on the subject, a funny little beggar man came to our door last week, so I gave him my school dinner money to avoid feeling guilty, but I felt guilty anyway, and what's more I had to go without my school dinner. I am aware that this message is a bit lacking in content, but somebody appears to be sending me something gigantic by e-mail, which is clogging up my back passage something terrible. So that's why I'm indulging in Non B&S content wittering. I have finally bitten the bullet, thrown caution to the wind and started work on Duke's tape. This gave me an idea for a fantastic competition. Anyone who wants to enter has to send Duke a tape. You get so many points for including a track that Duke hasn't actually got, and extra points if Duke actually likes it. The point sytem will be pretty complicated, and you're not allowed to include Hawkwind or Led Zep, 'cos that's cheating. Duke then works out the scores on the doors, which are displayed in highly animated form in his website on a feature called the Duke-o-Meter, or better still, Duke Box Dury. The lowest scoring tapes are awarded a Nick Hornby Bald Patch, while any high scorers are declared...hmmmm, now I'm stuck......a Lawrence When He Was in Felt Bald Patch...oh well, just a thought. As you can see it needs to undergo a little further development. Lawrence had quite a full head of hair when he was in Felt. His rampant baldness seems to have started at roughly the same time as Stuart Murdoch started to receive court orders to stop stalking the poor chap around London. Bloody hell fire and heavens above! I don't know whether or not this is connected to the strange behaviour of my e-mail facilities. I think someone is trying to send me the entire Stockton to Darlington railway line, complete with Stevenson's Rocket and all its terrified passengers, piece by piece, via e-mail. (one of whom is at school and listens to Expectations in the corner of the classroom during lunchbreaks in a "this is the story of my life" kinda way, which is surely the way B&S should be appreciated). Ahem, when it is slightly autobiographical in this little white ducks case i don't think it is the best way to love a group when it makes you cry and feel bitter inside, even though the song is very sweet don't you? expectations is pretty true, i can So relate to that. But I don't wish i could. So i am different. People always say they take pride in being *different*, but I'm wiling to bet that if they had a garuntee of happiness but they had to be the same as others, the most would take it. Expectations makes me feel really sad 'cos that IS what happens, well to me anyway. Ahit, if every song you had to listen to was autobiographical, then i'd be in a right state wouldn't i? especially 4st7 on The Holy Bible - heck that would be *me* fucked then. I'd have to start writing songs bout horses and change my name and evrything... Ooh now I'm rambling, except I think my original point was to say that it *isn't* great to be bullied at school/whatever and that that surely isn't the best way to love a song...but empathy is a beautiful thing after being alone so much. Without responding to it I managed to delete someone's post about _Sophie's World_, which I read while ill a few weeks ago and was surprised to find that Spiritualized dug from that book the title of their last record ("Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space," that one in the pharmaceuticals packet). Also lately I have managed to read _The Blue Flower_ by Penelope Fitzgerald, because I'm sort of obsessed with German Romanticism and the novel is roughly about Novalis. It's brilliant and beautifully written, though all of the background of it might be a bit much, and I say this despite hating _The Bookshop_ which is seaside village light comedy tripe, and some other novel of hers, the title of which eludes me, though it was on the Booker Prize short list a long while back-- no matter because it was total bourgeois crap.
