Why I like both Tindersticks and B&S -they both ask intelligent questions of the listener. -they both put me in the mood for love. -Stuart Staples sounds like a 33rpm playback of Stuart Murdoch recorded at 45rpm. -any of the songs on "Curtains" or "2nd Album" (the one with "Snowy in F Minor," "No More Affairs" and "Travelling Light" on it) could be on "Tigermilk", "IYFS" or "BWTAS". -they both calm me down after a quick blast of some of the more "happy" folk songs. it has finally stopped snowing and it's gray, cold and peacefull in Vienna today. How come does this blody Valentine's Day feel _this_ ..erm, hmm...empty..nothing...whatever.(and no, I haven't yet broken up with this guy who's been giving me hard times the last couple of months....don't ask me 'why not'). Oh, well, I don't want to put you down with my funny mood. The fact is that this festival's been giving me hard times as well, cos I can't possibly go there (don't ask me 'why not'). I even started dreaming in the night that I'm there...Or was it the other way round? Cos it might as well be, that I dreamt that my fav band came here to play... dear sweet diary, something funny happened on the way out of drawing class Friday. the naked guy who models for us walked up behind me and surprised me by saying "hello" very suddenly. he asked if i liked the class and then turned in the other direction without another word. this disturbs me very much. "you're naked, don't look at me!!!" If the naked guy in fact has designs on me, i shall have to disappoint him. although my eyes may in fact be on his NONglory, my thoughts are entirely of the little red-haired girl next to me. Poor, stupid Naked Guy. He wil be remembered. EVEN if i were rich enough to be able to attend the Festival, i'd be missing vital classes , not good for my diabolical scheme of raising my sad GPA this semester. *sigh* all you rompin rowdy listees tasting marmalade in cozy chalets and sending gentle waves to stu and crew. if you happen upon him, give him an apple for me, and if you see Isobel, do blow her a kiss, i'd be grateful. This time, I wanted to ask a silly question to David and / or Katrina: it must be very silly since nobody has asked it before, but my english is not so good and there's something I'd like to know about the festival. You say its from 23rd to 25th : does it mean sunday 25th included??? I mean, will there be gigs on sunday night, too? Well, that was it. There's something rather surprising in the last posts on the list: most of these listees cant go to the festival. What about the others? Sinister: Something odd...

Hi everyone First of all, it sounds as if this festival is going to be loads of fun. Gosh, what a great idea it is! I wish I could go, but I live in the States and can't afford to go...It would be such a great way to meet some of you... Anyway, on to the weird thing I just read: My sister just gave me her February copy of Harper's Bazaar to read, the one with Madonna on the cover.... Anyway, in the Media/Quick Takes section, there is a bit titled "Who says men are from Mars?" It says: "Love lost, love found, love tortured. The songs that make our Valentine's Day mix tape this year come from our favorite sensitive men." Then they go on to mention Foo Fighters, Quincy Jones, Tevin Campbell, Ron Sexsmith, Gomez ("The Tex-Mex band Gomez hails from Sheffield, England, but its song 'Tijuana Lady,' (Bring It On) evokes tequila sunrises", Kenny Lattimore, Olu, and finally Hefner (" 'A Hymn for the Postal Service' (Breaking God's Heart) shows that grungy guys have feelings too." Some of these people I have never heard of...it's pretty interesting to see Hefner and Gomez mentioned in Bazaar...their descriptions make me laugh! "Grungy guys!" -Ha ha! Sinister: B&S Weekender Angst

Hi All, Someone (Tag?) was surprised at the lack of immediate reaction to the announcement of the Al Bowley Festival. There could be many explanations. Stunned amazement amongst them. For the serious B&S obsessive, attending could be pretty akin to crashing a party held by our heroes for their mates. Lack of reaction could also be due to lots of Sensitive cardie-wearing soul-searching: "I spend all my time in my room listening to my Tigermilk/Tigerjammies tapes. My best friend is my Study At Stow tee. How can I get it together to find at least 3 people I could dare show my pants to in a hi-de-hi chalet? Even if I can get that far, what would they think of me and the cuddly fox I take to bed each night, that I stuck cotton wool to the paws of to look like it had been romping in the snow?" I guess other considerations are the amount of dosh, and how can one get a ticket for what is (especially post-Brits) likely to be a heavily over subscribed bash. This was something I ran across in the newsgroups--what say you, UK listees, any truth to this? Maybe the B&S festival will have to provide an increase in sexual activity (albeit with many other horny foreigners who also have good taste in music). Xavier -- LONDON -- British sex lives are sizzling, with people making love an average of 81 times a year, 10 more than last year, a survey showed today. The 1999 Durex Report, a survey of 8,000 love lives, also found the following: :: Yorkshire is the sexiest region in Britain, with its inhabitants making love an average of 92 times a year, more than 20% up on last year. Scotland comes second with a figure of 91, and then the North West of England with 90. :: Midlanders are going against the trend by having sex less often. Their total of 71 occasions, down from 73 last year, puts them bottom of the provincial passion league. :: People are willing to make love in a variety of places, with 50% or more respondents admitting they would consider getting down to it in a car, in the bath or shower, on a beach, or even in the woods. :: The most popular location is, unsurprisingly, at home in bed, where 92% of people would be willing. Among the more adventurous, 22% of people would consider sex in a nightclub, 29% in the office, and even, said 14%, in a taxi. :: While 79% of both men and women said they preferred making love without distraction, some admitted their minds wandered. Almost a third of adults confessed to fantasising about a celebrity during sex, and 36% to fantasising about someone from their past. :: A further 7% of people had more prosaic matters on their minds during passionate moments - they were thinking about watching television. :: The overwhelming factor to put people off sex is bad breath, with 49% of respondents saying this kills the mood for them. Some 15% say children in the house is also a turn-off. :: But people with poor memories can be reassured - perhaps surprisingly, only 14% are put off their passion by someone calling them by the wrong name.
