hello people.. i've sort of rejoined via the digest after the advice of several listee type personages at the oxford meet-up...which was very nice, even if i did feel a bit young and naive....hope you all had a nice meal later on..we found a skirt for cassie, by the way. very nice - from dorothy perkins. i think people should take a trip to the cinema and go and see 'human traffic'..yes yes i know it's about clubbing....but it *does* have john simm in it, which was reason enough for me. does anyone have any remedies for bad backs? i don't know why, but i seem to be ageing prematurely..the pain is kind of in the upper-middle back area - anyone have any ideas what to do? i'd appreciate it. i'd also appreciate any thoughts anyone has on 'edward II' by christopher marlowe and the poetry of carol ann duffy..a-level english is not as fun as i thought it would be. the washing machine has eaten my study at stow t-shirt..along w/ my snow patrol one which it devoured a few months ago. evil lump of metal it is..but i have new pink hair, so i don't mind too much right now. but i will tomorrow morning when i have nothing to wear for my english exam. is anyone coming to truck '99 as well? it's a festival [10th-11th july] - they've got a band called 'stars of track and field' playing on the saturday..could be interesting. anyway. must go and eat my pasta. au revoir *bug* ___________________________________________ ***the tiny zine on the net*** http://ds.dial.pipex.com/sage/tartrazine ***and the best band in oxford*** http://ds.dial.pipex.com/sage/moonkat +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". Sinister: Bill Evans/breaking the bank

Another recent arrival from the nursery here, and hearing someone mention Bill Evans gives me a prod into a tentative first post, missing any signs of cleverness unfortunately, but maybe I'll work up to that later: PJMiller said:'" Bill's album is a corker - "Bill Evans, From Left to Right: Playing the Fender-Rhodes Electric Piano and the Steinway Piano" It features two fantastic versions of "What Are You Doing With the Rest of Your Life? North and South and East and West of Your Life?", one of the most beautiful songs of all time,.......That Bill Evans LP I mentioned also has a fantastic cover photo of Bill playing two pianos at once with a heavily ash-ladenn fag hanging out of his mouth. Wow! It's a CD, but I say LP to sound groovy." I like Bill Evans too, and I guess he liked Michel Legrand, who wrote "what are you doing the rest of your life." On his record (I say record coz i bought it on vinyl in a record store up the road...) "I will say goodbye" he does 2 excellent versions of the title song --also by Michel Legrand, along with a nice version of Dolphin Dance by Herbie Hancock, and a Bacharach tune and a Mandel tune. It just has a picture of a road on the cover, which isn't so terribly exciting, but there's a little inset photo of him and his trio-- and he's looking very 1977, as in---Shave off that beard bill! He was very clean cut in the 60s, according to his album photos, but boy, those 70s! His album photos do get a little scary. OK so, B&S stuff. My friend Gerry and I went all the way from SF to Bowlie, because we were worried that B&S would never come here. We had a fab time. We're very happy Looper is coming to SF in July. Will Oldham is playing the same venue the next night. We'd get a kick out of going to Bowlie 2, (esp if Felt appears!), but are worried our credit cards would melt--especially since we've already almost melted them so that we could go to Paris this summer (too soon after Bowlie 1 to have paid anything off...), and are tempted to take the train to London to see Marc Almond while we are there( what do you think?). Anyway, it's a real kick hanging out with you folks. hello folks, whenever people start reminiscing about spangles and fraggles i must admit i fail to be washed away on a tide of emotion... even so, even i have moments when i start to wonder "whatever happened to..." and never more so than when i think about GOLDEN NUGGETS. you see, GOLDEN NUGGETS were my favourite breakfast cereal as a child, and then one day at the start of the eighties POW! they were gone forever... or so i thought until last week when they were sat there on the supermarket shelf for the first time in twenty years, with a story on the side of the box about how the original gold mine dried up or something. anyway, i'll be having a bowl tonight. what other consumables have i purchased this week? well, there was this bottle with "non-carbonated isabelle" written on it. Sorry to post again so soon: Katrina whispered to the list: as far as i know, bowlie 3 will be a dance event, nothing to do with bowlie at all whatsoever (apparently b&s are 'advisors' or summat to bowlie 2). stuart m did mention he may be up for a similar type event on a yearly basis, but that was before bowlie 1, so i don't know how he feels about it all now ... god only knows when the 'new' album will be due out too ... Bowlie 3 is a dance event? How are Belle and Sebastian 'advisors'? is this like the Green Berets in Vietnam? seriously though, what was the meaning of the ' ' around "new"? Hola list: I'm going to have to start a website just to cover the corrections to statements I make in my emails. 1: The thing about the Japanese word for tire was wrong. It's not spelled the same. But I think orange is the same in German and English. Is there a german word that rhymes with Orange? 2: also, regarding Devastating Blake Hamilton's website I got the address wrong. Or so he says. I tend to disbelieve this, because I was there, and copied it from the little bar where the WWW address shows up. But he insists, so I'm going to make sure, and apologize now. 3: My mother left me a little note the other day thanking me for the tape I made for her. She likes Belle and Sebastian a lot, and, on the rare occasion i play any other music, she will come in my room and ask me to play something pretty by Belle and Sebastian instead. She prefers to hear indie pop crooning coming from my room rather than anything else. She's such a dear. 4: the WHO are slowly absorbing all the crucial nutrients from my head. The more I l hear the more I like. It's like an addiction, only not. Well, maybe it is. I keep looking through my CDs to find compilations or soundtracks they are on. My best friend's uncle liked the Who so much he named his band after them. But he reversed it and put a letter upside down: The Ohms. The funny part is that his last name is Watts. Hello: The answer to Marie's question is Park Slope Brooklyn, home of the ever rising rents. And, I am glad that you and chamomie understand my frustration in dealing with music snobs and "simple things." I heard that there was supposed to be a meeting of Belle and Sebastian fans at DBA in Manhattan last Sunday (the 13th); if this event occurred I would like to know how it went. That's all for now. dearest listerines! i feel like the list slut (oh, wait, isn't that stu g.?), what with being referred to in so many posts lately. well, not as many as some of you, but... ah, shut up, marie... yes, i emailed nick privately to tell him that he was correct in guessing that my "lalalalala"'s were from photo jenny. i neglected to tell him what his prize would be, as i have yet to decide on one, but it will be appropriately smutty. oh, dear. okay, guess where THESE came from: la da da da da da da (okay, this isn't really fair....) si, 'twas i that used braid lyrics as a subject heading, and also went on and on (and on and on) about rainer maria, and....... here is a piece of advice, kids: unless you already own them, you All ought to go out and pick up Braid's "Frame and Canvas," Rainer Maria's "Past Worn Searching" (or NewYork1955, or their self-titled, or LookNowLookAgain), and, for kicks, anything by Joan of Arc. also, Piebald has a song called "holden caufield," which is very nice and, clearly, extensively references this list's favourite author.
