Dear all, As my subject line implies, I was mightily impressed with Robin's effort and I think everyone should email him to say he's VERY VERY FUNNY. That wasn't sarcastic, it was heartfelt. You can tell when I'm being sarcastic because I put that clever ~ snakey thing in that Northy invented. However, I do think you've everyone has got Lazy Line Painter Jane all wrong. I have listened carefully to all the interpretations that have been kindly offered, but have come to the conclusion that you are all barking up the wrong tree. It all came to me in a flash. The whole thing only makes sense when you realise that Jane is a cat. She picked up her nasty railing-licking habits from that bad cat Elvis down the road. He licks pavements, but Jane likes to be different. Which is her downfall. marie teased us with: >la la la la la >(now guess which b&s song Those "la's" come from!) I like this competition. I plump for 'Photo Jenny'. *Thinks* Maybe loveable fat people who like to make light of their weight could wear T-Shirts that say 'I plump for England' or whatever. It wouldn't be funny, but T-shirts never are. They're a bit like sig files and Simpsons reruns. Nothing's funny forever, except small children falling over and hurting themselves. I was thinking of buying a 'My friend went to London and all he got me was this lousy T-shirt!' T-shirt, but then started wondering if ironic anti-fashion was all a bit passe. I'm looking forward to the day HoneyPaul mistakenly posts his filthy kiddie-porn fantasies to the list. Actually, I'm not. I apologise for the comments I made some moments ago. But not sincerely enough to go back and delete them. To anyone still interested, NonKiddiePornHoney has now posted up those unrealeased lyrics I compiled in a new 'Lonely lyrics without a home' section at http://www.majordomo.net/sinister/lyrics.html I have driven myself insane listening to the third line of 'Lord Anthony' over and over and over. Steady Mike has thrown a cat amongst the pigeons with the suggestion that it might be 'Or are you still into *punking up* though you're a toff.' Which excited me for a while, but having listened to it again, I'm not convinced. Also, Tim Hopkins is with me in the 'I don't think the second line of Loneliness of the Middle Distance Runner mentions dogs lying down' camp. But had no better suggestions. It's not a very interesting camp. I came up with 'The dark clouds down the pouring rain' and thought this at least made a sort of sense, but falls down on the grounds that it's not actually what he sings. Sorry about all this - sometimes, I amaze myself with how tedious I can be. I think Stuart Gardiner needs to provide people with a means of withdrawing their listcrush votes. Now that we know 'Landslide' is just a canny pastiche and not a little-known Marvelettes B-Side, perhaps someone with a tape of Camber Sands would like to have a go at deciphering Isobel's breathy mumblings. Because I can't face it. I thought it was called 'Last Night' until the set-list got posted. Of course, you could just wait until the album comes out and save yourself the bother. If, as our Teletext monitoring spies would have it (see http://sinister.1999-month-06/feelingsinister/mhonarc/199902/msg00197.html ) , Lord Anthony and Loneliness are going to be on the single, then as I was saying to someone under the table, it means that not a single song of Stuart Murdoch's from the new album has been given a public airing. I bet he thinks they're really good and wants to stun us all when it's released. And I bet he's right too, the bastard. 'Marx and Engels', 'I Fought In A War', 'Once Upon A Weekend', 'Wake Her Up' - I think the excitement at reading these titles got lost in the post-Brits furore. New competion: guess what these songs are about. The first two sound like Struan's gone all bolshy. Not that he wasn't before. There was a great debate in the earlyish days of Sinister about whether Belle & Sebastian were a political band or not. I believe the Duke won it on points. Bring back the Duke. Would anyone like to tell me which Sea & Cake album to buy? Purely self-centred request, but I live in New Zealand, where we don't have MTV, BBC or anything particularly interesting. I'm wanting some B&S concert tapes, especially Bowlie, but (obviously) don't have any B&S content to trade with.(Apart from badly recorded radio sessions, and the black sessions, which everyone seems to have) However, i do have an absolutley massive selection of Suede rarities, like 'Be My God/Art', Sometimes Wonderful, Les Yeux Fermes etc. if anyone is interested in trading tape for tape. Oh me gusset's on red alert, some one loves me. Yes, last night my cold bedroom was warmed by my activity. An activity brought about by a warm glow coming from the list crush site. Oh some one has voted for me, only one vote mind, but some one is out there. and that someone wants to know. hello my fellow sinisterines... i've had my voice for a while...but i've been putting off posting...but here goes. my story involves ( & it is a true story ) 7 pairs of socks, cheech & chong , super furry animals, tigermilk & 1 lost suitcase. a couple of years ago i went on my 1st ever holiday abroad...my destination was the sunny & very beautiful Cancun in Mexico ( end credits of True Romance... Clarence & Alabama on the beach ) all was well...i didn't freak out on the plane or anything...it was a very long flight but everything was fine...until i got to my hotel...& i found my suitcase missing...after some frantic searching i was more or less told i had no chance of getting it back , after alot of carefull thought, i decided i was not going to let this spoil my holiday. instead of getting all aggessive with the tour rep , i did the opposite ...i was very polite & understanding much to their shock...& this tactic worked! i also underestimated the sympathy factor ..., everybody in the hotel knew me as '' the poor bloke that had his suitcase stolen '' a fantastic conversation opener! ...i didn't even have to try...girls were actually approaching me...it really was incredible that having something bad happen can actually bring out some good, after a while i have to admit i was sort of glad my case went missing. anyway i swiftly received my compensation...'' i'm sorry sir we can only give you £250 to replace the essentials, you can claim more when you get home '' practically my whole suitcase was full of clothes bought from charity shops except a few band t-shirts and my socks & boxers which i get from Marks & Spencer...i was in tears... of joy! i couldn't believe it. if you think things couldn't get much better i'm afraid they did...,with 2 days of my holiday to go they found my suitcase ...which at first sight looked to be fully intact .. but on closer inspection had a few items missing namely 7 pairs of socks ..., my prized cheech & chong t-shirt ,a super furry animals t-shirt & ( B & S content at last!) a cassette of tigermilk that a friend of a friend taped for me...i hadn't even played it... to this day i still haven't heard tigermilk all the way through...when the cd pops through my door next month i shall be hearing it for the first time...i can't wait! as for the person who stole the above items...i can't help but think '' you cool bastard '' & thanks. signing off from my first posting... richard. actually ...reading back on this posting ...i sound like one of those lucky bastards ...where everything goes right all of the time...i assure you this is not the case...i'd better give you a bit of background...when i was 4 i lost the hearing in my left ear & my parents were told by the doctors that i would be completely deaf by the time i was 12..., when i was 8 ...all of my teeth had to come out...so where are we...oh yes i'm 10 i'm nearly deaf and i've got no teeth ... i was not a pretty sight...but things always have a habit of evening out ...my hearing actually got better rather than worse, i was playing football 1 day and i headed a ball & the sound just flowed back in...it seriously freaked me out, i'm now 30 ( only just ) & at the moment i'm content i guess thats about all anyone could ask...i have good days & bad days but lately the good days seem to out number the bad ones...but who knows whats around the corner, if theres one thing i've learnt its not to take anything for granted. i also have a full set of teeth...but for many years i wasn't allowed to eat chocolate... ,i was the original charlie bucket from charlie & the chocolate factory...i was allowed chocolate on my birthday, this explains my fondness for chocolate now..., enough...i think you get the picture...until next time ...i've got the odd celebrity story to tell ...like the time sonic boom phoned me at home.... Hello from your usual man in Daresbury! Yes, it's me again and one more of those useless email. We've just come back from the "Ring 'o Bells", the local pub. We had a good meal and one beer each. Now we're back and while Spyros is reading about his future in the greek army (instructions towards future soldiers from the greek ministry of defence) I was wondering what to do... Yes, you'll be the victim of my incessant blubbering again. :-) I can't think of anything serious to say. I have been reading the recent reports about Springsteen's latest concerts in Paris, Spain and Italy. I wish I could see him again. You'll probably think I'm sick, and you may be right. But, god, I like his music. I'm crazy and I think that's the only obsession of mine. Not the only one. I have one more. You and Anette must be in London now. That's good. I hope the weather is nice so that you can enjoy the walk. Hyde Park is a good walk, and Thames but not in the centre of London. The Thames is better if you go to Chiswick or Hammersmith or thereabouts. Charing cross Road I like as well. Lots of bookshops there. But I guess, being women, you'll probably want to go to Harrods and Oxford Street for shopping (well, you don't really buy anything at Harrods, this shop is extremely expensive). I feel sleepy now. It's the food and the beer. I think I'll go lay on the grass outside, next to the canal. I could sleep for a while. And dream.
