Blimey, I go away from my computer for two days and there's SO much stuff to respond to. So instead I shall blithely ignore everyone and instead urge as many of you as possible to find out about the utterly fantastic Whistler who(m) I saw at the 13th Note last night. Despite counting one of EMF amongst their number (the "talented" one, as opposed to the one that shoved pineapples up his foreskin or whatever he was alleged to have done, or the cute one, or the other two that no-one can remember - actually I can, but that would make me Carsmile Steve wouldn't it? More than slightly anal etc etc ), they were great. A few of their songs wouldn't have sounded out of place in a Belle and Sebastian set. What better compliment can I give? Go to www.whistler-music.com and hear for yourself. Especially Song About You. I want to go Tigermilkying tonight. I really *was* going to go, but unfortunately I have rent to pay and phone bills to pay and, erm, no job, so I can't. But I'm there with you in spirit, Mark and others, honest I am. You all realise that Mark's promise of real genuine pop stars is based on the fact that the Artist Formerly Known As Carsmile Steve might be popping in for a pint, don't you? I note that not content with nicking my list-crush vote-appeal tactics, Stuart Gardiner has also nicked my "please give me a job" tactics. Has that man no shame? (well, given absinthe-and-adultery shock revelations the other day, I think it's safe to assume he doesn't). Just remember, potential employers. I asked first. And I won't kiss your girlfriend. Onto other matters I gleaned from my thorough read through the posts of the last couple of days: Stu G, list tart extraordinaire, said I should be thankful that I don;t live in Cambridge and that at least I live somewhere with a decent social life. He has evidently never *been* to Paisley :) Saying that, for anyone that has, there is a terrific old man's karaoke bar (full of Jack Duckworth-a-likes singing "Delilah") and the bloke that runs it sings Placebo songs and scares the grannies. I'm going to go there tonight in lieu of Tigermilking. They also have Urusei Yatsura songs in the list of songs you can choose for the karaoke, though to the best of my knowledge, no-one has ever sung them. I'm not joking about this, by the way. Er, isn't *being* multi-million-selling the point of Celine Dion that you are struggling to find? Some people want integrity and to be "4-real", but some people just want oodles of money. And appealing to a lot of people is a pretty easy way of getting it if you have the wherewithal to do it. I'd bloody do it if I had any sort of singing voice at all (I do have a sort of singing voice, it's a dreadful sort). Take Sharon Stone for example, she has an IQ of Mensa-joining proportions but she chose to make her considerable fortune by appearing in Police Academy IV and the Calendar Girl Murders, and not wearing any knickers. And good for her I say. I think we may be getting back to the "is it wrong to be in it for the money" debate, well I say no, it isn't wrong, but I'm still glad some people do what exactly they want to and not just what buys them their latest nose-job. Who said there were photos of me anyway? I missed that. Oh, and was Slow Graffiti really written specifically for the Acid House? I thought it had been around longer than that. Do you get paid shedloads of money if you get commissioned to write a song especially for a film? And where does that leave you in terms of artistic integrity, if you have to write a song to fit in with what the film bods want? Simon from V-Twin (tambourine chap in photo) is from Inverness, you know. Him, and Graham Kemp from Urusei Yatsura, the Inverness pop mafia. Though Jimmy Page used to own Aleister Crowley's old spooky mansion a few miles down the road, just to continue my ability to tie lots of loose ends of threads together. And one of Smokie is from Drumnadrochit. I read in the paper that he's supposed to be playing at the opening of the new Loch Ness Monster Exhibition, but he's stuck in Mongolia where Smokie are bigger than the Beatles (sold 40,000 tickets in one day, there is apparently an 80,000 waiting list for tickets for the same gig). Whereas here they do novelty records with Roy "Chubby" Brown. Fame, eh? It's Friday night, I should have better things to do than this. So I'm going to go and do them. I just don't know what they are yet. Please forgive me for this letter since it will contain almost no b&s related info. I was never very good at keeping those pesky things called rules. Even at an early age ~ much to the chagrin of my second grade teacher, Ms Haskett, who didn't like my innovative reality based playtime. Why let kids live in a little dream world where their buildings carefully sculpted from blocks would stand? Why not introduce some natural disasters of other randomly flying blocks? Our lives aren't always going to peachy- wake up kids, we have to learn sometime! Who better to introduce them to the real world than I? Mr. Rogers certainly wasn't going to do it. No no. But, Ms Haskett disapproved and I ended up in the early eighties version of time out. There began my first thoughts of rules being the enemy of intelligence. Of course, after a while we all come to realize that rules are actually the enemies of criminals. Details Details. After spending half of the day in the emergency room yesterday, I discovered the answer to the time honored question of "is pneumonia contagious?" Yes, my friends it is. Since, I'm stuck at home I decided to watch 'Pretty In Pink' since it seems to be all the rage these days. Some interesting trivia on the movie that you probably already know or really could do without knowing.. -It was filmed in the same L.A. high school where Grease was made. - The original ending depicted Duckie and Andie hooking up, however the test audiences said they would have preferred to see rich boy Blane win Andie's heart. Plus, Molly Ringwald was sick during the filming of the ending (probably from seeing herself in that hideous pepto explosion of a prom dress), and director John Hughes (also the writer) wasn't satisfied with the editing. He was also concerned that audiences would take the original ending as a message that poor people and rich people don't belong together (if anyone else wants to help prove this stigma wrong then there's a poor single girl who has a nice cd addiction that would love being fed). -The Rave-Ups are the band playing in the club scene. Molly Ringwald wapparently a fan of their music, and her sister had a child with one of the band members. Also, in "Sixteen Candles", 'The Rave-Ups' is scrawled on the notebook Molly's character is carrying while walking down a corridor after study hall. Well, thats all the drivel I'll bore with you now. Better 'Pretty in Pink" than more The Who discussion. Though, I was quite disappointed when no one brought up Dr. Who. Talk about genuis! And to leave you with a quote from that show... There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, where the sea is asleep and the rivers dream; people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, and somewhere else the tea is getting cold. Come on, Ace, we've got work to do..... Hello everybody having recently graduated (from the nursery and not university but thats a different story) i have now been let loose at the sinister mob. Its been quite a wait as well, as theres been several things Ive been wanting to get involved in (this is the type equivalent of nervous waffle by the way). Firstly in the encounters with famous people department I spent a whole tube journey home one time sitting next to Brian Molko. I think his heavy make up, guitar strapped to his back, and the fact that his was reading his song sheets gave him away slightly. For any Londoners interest (or others who know where it is) he got off at Stratford. I wonder why? Theres been a lot of talk about Shed 7 recently, and one person in particular I remember said that they thought they would be bigger than Oasis. I must now shamefully admit that I saw Oasis in the early days, and the mighty sheds were in support. Oh, did I mention Cast were the third band on the bill that night? When are they going to release a greatest hits then? (sarcasm very much intended). I must say I find their latest offering a trifle offensive. Beat mama indeed. Is anyone else out there going to the garage tonight? Im really looking forward to it. Im always surprised by the real lack of decent nights out in London. Youd think in a place were it is claimed (by the mighty Catatonia of all people) that it never sleeps (anyone notice my appalling grammar yet by the way) that there would be something for everyone, but Im finding it increasingly difficult to find anywhere that plays half decent music. Ah for the days of old when I listened to Neds, Carter USM and James, there seemed to be plenty of nights out then. Perhaps I was a little less picky, I dont know. I best be off, as I dont think that I get paid for doing this sort of stuff (yep, Im another who has a cronic lack of work, and internet access fools!). Pat Smear? Wasn't she in EastEnders? Or am I mixing up character names and plot lines again? It's been a funny old week. I've bought two albums from people with really boring names, in fact they both sound like members of the Preston and District Turnip Growers' Association - Dennis Brown and Bill Evans. What makes matters even spookier is the fact that on both occasions I had to choose between someone with a boring name and someone with a really fantastic exciting name - Dennis or Everton Blender and Bill or Willie Bobo. Uncanny. I'm yet to be entirely convinced of Dennis's magnificence, but Bill's album is a corker - "Bill Evans, From Left to Right: Playing the Fender-Rhodes Electric Piano and the Steinway Piano" It features two fantastic versions of "What Are You Doing With the Rest of Your Life? North and South and East and West of Your Life?", one of the most beautiful songs of all time, and something called "Children's Play Song" for extra twee points. It's very relaxing, you'll like it. Cheap too. Buy it or rot in Hell for all eternity. Unless you don't want to. Or you've already got it. I've also received two fantastic fanzines: "Segundos de Luz" from Our Jordi is a great improvement on the last issue, and is packed with interesting features, photos and fun. And Matthew Hintz's address. The fanzine's in Spanish, but don't let that put you off - it contains a photo of Isobel Campbell speaking the international language of school uniform wearing - PHWOOAR! And a drawing of Camber Sands chalets by Mad Dog Murdoch that looks like a bus. And a special message from Mick Cooke. What else can I say? One day, issue two of "Segundos de Luz" will be as sought after as origianl vinyl copies of "Tigermilk". Ask for it at your local newsagents, or order one directly from Mister Jordi. Before it's too late. I've also received issue 2 of "Trousercuts - The Magazine for Men", which also looks fantastic. However, I immediatelty scrambled through it looking for the answers to last week's quiz. Alas, I look destined to remain ignorant. Furthermore, the absence of Keith Watson University of Rock is a bitter blow, that I hope will be rectified in the next issue. Not that these minor criticisms should detract from the overall impression of a slickly produced must-have for the culturally ambitious man about town or his bit of fluff. Congratulations to Trousers for the spookily appropriate pictures of Cubans going about their daily business. Tag, do you think that the "Pitbull" bloke from "Black Cat, Whte Cat" looks like Bobby Ball from Cannon and Ball? I do. That Bill Evans LP I mentioned also has a fantastic cover photo of Bill playing two pianos at once with a heavily ash-ladenn fag hanging out of his mouth. Wow! It's a CD, but I say LP to sound groovy. I don't know who that song from "The Dreamlife of Angels" is by, but only because I've forgotten. It's called Something or other Street. And don't think I didn't spot those two capital letters the other day, Andrew Dean. Sinister: They call me Mr Boombastic Pants

I'm glad it's not just me daydreaming about anonymous corporate megaliths housing big minimalist boardrooms, in which grey-suited men discuss strategies for their latest product ("*Grey* taramasalata? Are you mad? Haven't you seen Pretty in Pink? It's gotta be puce!!") and somehow coming up with totally bizarre and inexplicable ideas, such as Looper=Xtreme Sportz. Innocently watching Match of the Day in the days when "indie" was a euphemism for zero sales, who should be providing the backing track to Alan Smith and John Aldridge than My Bloody Valentine! And then the Breeders! It was all too much, really, I swooned, I did... Someone called Stuart Murdoch was killed in the Isle of Man TT motorcycle race thing yesterday. This dangerous sports thing is getting out of hand! Get back to croquet you soft lads, for heaven's sake... Did you know yesterday was Celine Dion day on VH1? Shed Seven day is week on Tuesday, all you shedders out there! I will be playing some Sarah Cracknell tonight (at Tigermilking, natch :)), so if she's in the area could she pop along and do a sort of karaoke thing? That would be nice :) Any other pop stars who want to turn up, that would be nice too - I think we've got a couple coming along already, but it would be telling to say who... It's just occurred to me - does this list have virus-preventing measures inbuilt? Our office was decimated yesterday by this new nasty worm virus thingy, which propagated like wildfire (I managed to avoid it, thank heavens, but more than half my floor have lost files), and it would be rather unfortunate to spread a virus to more than a thousand other people in one go. For what it's worth, the message will appear to come from a friend or colleague, and is something like: "Hi (name), thanks for the email, I'll get back to you ASAP. Meanwhile, take a look at these files!". Evidently, don't. Delete away merrily (my colleagues all received multiple emails) and you should be okay... Sorry if you've already had these warnings dozens of times, but it's a change to have a genuine virus to gabble on about! Still no B&S content. What else is there to say that hasn't been said before? Actually, Lesley Jo seemed to manage it, so I really ought to pull my finger out. I may have to picket Jeepster or Banchory (sp?) to try and get some form of Bellesque pop performance at Bowlie II, now that I've (ulp) signed up to go...and it goes without saying that the Sinister/Looper football team will be resurrected - any other sinisterines attending who'd fancy taking on the might of the alternative pop establishment with us? There's a cheap Denim album in HMV at the moment - worth getting at all? Sinister: sweet sensual chocolade?

"Well hello all you boys and girls, I'd like to take you to the insede world. It's quite irregural place to be, but never fear you're safe with me. Well... maybe." Another day rolling on forward like a bee without wings. But this evening: Stereo Total in Semifinal Club. Anyone who has ever heard of them must know why I'm so exited: best possible German Lofigaragedancepunkypoppy- band in the world. But since it's German, I think thats not such an achivement. But a great partyband, anyway. And next weekend: Manics, Blur, Stereophonics, Jimi Tenor. And Suede, which I'm NOT going to see, since my train leaves the city of Seinäjoki, where Provinssirock is being held, too early. And performing there also...S.O.D.!!!!! Featuring guys from Anthrax! Oh, that band brings me memories from way back, when I still used to skateboard, about 10 years ago. Trashmetal is a funny form of music. Have to do my laundry next week so I can wear my B&S- shirts with pride and honour there, without stinking like I've wore them for a month without ever taking them off. Which is the case now. I have no idea how my co-workers here put up with the stench. Richard promised to send me that AltNation B&S special to me, so Dicky-boy, finnish chocolade on its way there when I get that copy. Fazer Blue, the best known chocolade in the world. Even the Swiss like it, and theyve got Toblerone, for god's sake. Other things to digest when you need something tasty: Pepsi, chocolade biscuits filled with orangejelly, beer, red wine & french bread. Such a classy combination that last one, but I think you all know that. Well, I'm off, have a jolly good weekend, I know I'll try. @--->--- Jace le petit. Sinister: Possible brush with fame (incorporating tenuous links to Crackers)

Mornin' to one and all. Well, 'xept for those of you lucky enough to be in foreign climes where it's probably not morning at all. Anyway, I was hoping you could all help me with something. All these brushes with famous people has set me wondering. The important question is this: Is the bloke who sits next to me on the 7:05 from Colchester to London Liverpool Street every morning really who he says he is? Or rather, has he done what he says he's done? Listen, this'll make sense in a wee while, I promise you. The bloke who sits (la-di-da, etc., etc.) is called Adrian Spriggs. And he claims to have been part of the later line up of the Field Mice. Apparently, he played guitar with them for about two or three years until they split up, and sang a bit at a few gigs. He would have been about seventeen at that point, he had a bowl haircut, and would have had ('cause to be quite honest he still does have) a rather prominent jawline. (The tenuous link to Crackers, which I shall elaborate upon at this point, is that he claims to have been involved with the writing of 'Lets Kiss and Make Up', which, as quite a few of you will know, was originally a Field Mice number). So, is this guy for real, or is he just an impostor, a fake, a charlatan who is preying upon my love of the Field Mice? Mind you, it would be bloody excellent to say that I travel into work with a fella who was part of the band that wrote my favourite ever song (which, for those of you with an inquisitive nature, and who don't get bored easily, is "If You Need Someone"). hey guys and dolls sorry my post yesterday was so damn long. that's why i didn't post much for a while. Even *I* get sick of myself. JEEEZus. First off, i'm deeply troubled by this Offspring mystery, which i went and checked out and i can confirm it is a tragedy. it sounds like maybe one of their wussy friends made them listen to b&s, and they heard s/b/j and thought the guitar riff would be a jammin' pseudo-punk anthem, so they decided to lift it, but they changed it to just solid notes instead of the plucking rhythm B/S uses. cos who has everr heard of belle and sephiroth anyway?? no one who would listen to a crap station that plays the offspring and their ilk. no one would ever notice. i think a contingent of sinisterites should see to it that the so-called offspring are questioned mercilessly and that justice is done. we can't have our innocent songs being sodomized and mutilated in broad daylight, it's the nineties folks, Free your mind!!! Free Leonard Peltier!! oh no wait. Instead of doing a script for a karoake video of LLPJ, i would like to do a comic of it. If i get really bored and actually do that, i'll be sure and let y'all know. but honestly i don't know if it's possible to make it G-rated. when they say let's see your kit, does that mean "get naked"?? well in the video, it could just be a girl holding up a kitten, and everyone looks at it and laughs and is very amused. that would be funny. "In the mud on your knees", Jane goes to Woodstock II. she wears a shirt that says "Rebel" and her friends pat her on the back and give her the thumbs up, then she kicks the crap out of them. All the girls look the same, they could show a picture of the Corrs. (what is up with those people, are they genetic freaks? it's like they are engineered to be blandly popular and stereotypically pleasant to look at, they all belong on FIENDS) Challenging styles, Jane is scoffing at department store windows, and then she just runs and runs wearing a jumper. boo to the business world, she puts on a ghost costume and jumps out at some guys wiht briefcases. tax-free on her back, could just be a lazy huge girl lying on a ratty couch, with a book about "How to Cheat on Taxes". working for the joy of giving: Jane runs a free kissing booth on the sidewalk. the last bus out of town is self explanatory. you'll have a boy tonight: someone could give her bubble-gum cigars in blue, or pink for you'll have a girl tonight. Then she tosses a coin whilst looking at a picture of her Mum, and remembers the pretty brown songbird who lighted on her shoulder when she licked her ice cream off the railing, cos it was so hot that day it melted off and she was very very hungry for ice cream and she didn't have another quarter to get more. She reads a book emblazoned "Free Tips from Boots" and considers a selection of various acne medications and creams. she sleeps in a bus stop, wakes up and starts marking off pages in a book of names. then, more cigars and "it's a boy" balloons ensue. *the end* on another less relevant note (ha) i was watching one of my old tapes the other day and it had a Superchunk video on it, for "the First Part". apparently at the time i had really liked that video for some reason. i can't explain but superchunk just make me wanna rock out every time i hear them, i think it's some genetic flaw. but in any case i realized there was a lot of indie rock dancing going on in there. It seems that indie rock dancing consists mainly of bouncing aimlessly up and down while indiscrimately flailing your arms in any direction they happen to flop at. i wondered if anyone else has observed other types of indie rock dancing in their excursions there and about.
