Just looking over the last two digests makes me kind of happy that I am not the only person here who wears their heart on their sleeve. While I must say that I am super happy for my sinister friends JJ and Rachel, I must say that jj heldman's poem depressed me a bit, but then again, I shouldn't hold the fact that i haven't seen anyone in a while against the married people. Anyway, I got really depressed even though I shouldn't have on the car ride home from detroit (went to the superchunk show) but the problem was that the object of most of my affections was driving the car and it just tears me up inside. I am such a bloody flake. I actually didn't see Superchunk at the Superchunk show. We walked in just as Rainer Maria got on to play and then left after they were done. I got a buttload of Rainer Maria stuff on vinyl though. If you have not heard them, you should. They are fabulous. I went to dinner with a friend and his two year old son Saturday night and was super unfortunate to sit near high schoolers that were enjoying homecoming. The alpha males at the table ate their food like pigs and acted like apes. The girls weren't much better, although one did come up to us and apologize for her date's apelike behavior. I just reminded her "that these memories will last a lifetime." I just enjoy the fact that at 25 or 30 this girl will look back on this magical night and think, "what was I thinking?" Did you ever notice that we are more defined as people by the things we have not done than the things that we have? When Belle and Sebastian sing that it could have been a brilliant career, I think we are all stuck thinking about what could have been than what is. It's just because we all think things could be better. And they can, but I think we all make the mistake of looking back, instead of looking forward. Maybe it's just me. Sinister: Life is ugly out there but music is beautiful

A couple of weeks ago I posted about some dossier on Jeepster and their kids on a Spanish mag, 'factory'.My first and best intention was to translate the whole of it,but when I started on Saturday I thought it was too long and uninteresting and redundant (basically I felt very,very lazy) and thought I just would send some remarks from it. It is composed of several short interviews with Jeepsters 'chefs' and with each band.Chris is the spokesperson for Belle and Sebastian.The author complains about the fact it was absolutely impossible to have a meeting with Stuart and that made the enquiries about the lyrics quite pointless He blames 'B&S pretended radical attitude about amateurism' and seems quite annoyed,as 'they are not that amateur any longer,as they are making money enough to pay the rent'.Such an attitude is attributed as one of many JD Salinger's influences in their artwork, influence that according to this journalist is stubbornly denied by all the members in the band. Contrarily to this,Chris himself refers indirectly to Salinger to give an example of what is the exact value of teenage daydreams : Salinger's wife sold his love letters to pay their children's school fees.That's it. Anyway,all the article is based upon the idea of how indie kids can grow up,face real life and their inner selves could stay unaltered.That apparently B&S songs are about it. Just B&S content.I am a too serious scholar for this list in any of its lives and remakes.SOS! What did one well say to the other three wells? Well well well. Props to Trousse for all those mums. However, I don't believe a word of it. Stevie's entire musical knowledge is based upon the Spotters Guide to Rock and Pop, which he showed to a select few at a Trouserfest the Sunday before last. It's a fantastic book, dedicated to redefining notions of 'accurate and authoritative'. Its astonishing take on rock history sees it introducing punk with the bold assertion 'There was no thought in the punk movement'. Elsewhere the author claims that every English guitar hero started their career in the Yardbirds, and that the Beatles are 'the biggest myth in pop history'. That's some conspiracy theory. His tone becomes particularly belligerent when it comes to metal. Iron Maiden's 'facile' album covers are the only way of distinguishing them from their peers as 'all heavy metal groups are equally noisy'. 'Belligerent' is one of two words Morrissey taught me. Props to anyone who can guess the other one ('prophesise' doesn't count, because he made it up). He also taught me how to misspell 'cemetery' and 'Shakespeare'. However, 'publically' (see last post) was all my own work. When I was younger I used to be interested in formal logic, and started to believe that 'prop' was an everyday abbreviation for 'propostion' but when I spilled it into conversation everyone just looked at me blankly and so I stopped saying it. I have no idea why I wanted to say 'propostion' in the first place. Hello to everyone who's new lately, especially Vesna from Belgrade. Bloody hell. I nearly cried when I read your post. Belle & Sebastian on B92? No wonder they tried to shut it down. Sorry, that's not very funny. The other day I went to the pictures and it was a film but afterwards when everyone was trooping out they played a record and it was TWATTYBUS and like so many listees before me I looked round to see if anyone was having spasms of ecstasy, but no, they were just trooping out, ship-shape and bristols fashion. But it was a nice end to a nice film called "Ghost Dog - The Way of the Samurai". I think you'd like it. It's by Jim Jarmusch, the bass player from my favourite group The Cartoons. Speaking of which, I had noticed Louie Bega's familiarity with the chicks on the list too. He's good, but I prefer Kid Coconut, who was the first artiste I ever listened to on a Walkman, fact fans. All three acts (except one) have made major contributions to the raising of lunacy in pop to dangerous levels. Andrew Dean, I think you should just panel your landlady. I'm going to panel mine one day. Short-arsed fucking cow. Tim, I think your group's pretty good. I like it when you get a bit angry and growly, like you're going to thump someone in the nuts if they don't give you your pencil case back. Congratulations to FunkySeb. Let's hope it's the first of many television appearances. Umm... some of you might be interested to know that trousercuts, the magazine for girls and boys who want to be girls, is finally complete. I'll send out copies to contributors in the next day or so. I'm still trying to figure out a way of doing online ordering, and I'll try to do something about it this week, but I'm a bit crap about things like that. Which reminds me, I'm back at Oxford in a week. To the offical B+S flavoured sinister picnic hosting spires of St Anne's college. And Mr Dean, I just went to a dead nice pub in Hammersmith (it shows, doesn't it?), cool conversations at the bar about lit, film, chicks, etc. Oh and me big bruv milked every drop of The Who from the Jukebox. hi, I wonder if any of you out there could help me. In a couple of weeks time, I'm visiting Philly, I'm really excited and stuff but I'd like to know if there are any good indie bars or clubs to go to in the city. I'm from a wee place just outside Glasgow and I really don't have any idea what to expect. Just to make this e-mail a little more interesting, I thought I'd let you know about the ad I saw on tv yesterday. It was for some milk shake drink called 'shaky Jake' now, here in the west of Scotland that's slang for an old drunk. Hi guys, GLASGOW MEET Well, I'm pleased to announce that there'll be at least three folk there, seriously though, it seems to be shaping up nicely, although knowing my luck, something will happen to stop me coming. DEATH My biggest fear is that when you die that you sort of stay as a disembodied conciousness, sitting bored for all eternity. COLLEGE LIFE Well, I've now survived three weeks of the brand new experience that is college. Already I can feel myself slipping into the same traps that made my life a misery in school - trying to change myself so that I'll fit in.
