Hello, 14++ people. My NME e-mail address didnŽt want me to read MariaŽs latest post. Blimey. Thank Honey (not god) for the sinister archives, who work truly GRATE. I promise that iŽll put things in itŽs right place soon, but right now letŽs answer.... First of all, my truly congrats to Annie Tremp (I didnŽt know that you have the same surname that a catalan village uses as a name) for winning the twee-shirt contest. I donŽt know how did this contest worked, but in what t-shirts is referred, Annie has a truly GRATE one with the Velvet Underground on it, even tough she isnŽt a "femme fatale". >I spoke to Mr Jordi on the phone last Monday and I have >to say he has a lovely catalonian accent :) Awww.....thanks a lot, truly......that thing of the "catalonian" reminded me of the Barcelona B&S gig (which I only have in tape.....), when mr. Sinister: family twee

I apologize for the subject line, but it was a little relevant: I was going to say, since keith m was wondering What if Stuart M had written Family Tree, what if it was, really? here it gets a bit pedantic I think... anyhoo... I posted once before saying something to that effect, I think what I said was that I'd read in an interview that that's what was so... actually what I read was in that MTV chat they did a while back, saying that each of Isobel, Sarah, and Stevie had written one song for fishyclap, and the only crossovers with people singing other people's songs were Isobel and Stevie collaborating on Beyond the Sunrise and Isobel "singing one of stuart's songs". I assumed this meant, since Stevie wrote The Wrong Girl and Sarah wrote Waiting For The Moon To Rise, that "singing one of stuart's songs" meant singing the whole thing, not just the bit of women's realm she sang. if so, that means that the "collaborating" on beyond the sunrise referred just to the singing and Stuart wrote Family Tree. I always figured this interpretation was right... until I realized that the collaborating probably meant they wrote it together, thus making the "singing one of stuart's songs" a reference to Women's Realm. the reason I figured the other way was that when I first listened to women's realm, I thought, "that's odd... this is isobel singing, but it doesn't sound like an isobel song. course, it doesn't really sound like a stuart song either, but Nice Day For A Sulk and The Chalet Lines were kind of weak too, so maybe it's a kinda weak stuart song." see, I figured it just didn't sound like an Isobel song; I like isobel and all... but her songs tend to sound sorta the same; I think she tries too hard. but I shouldn't talk, I can't write songs worth a chickfactor. so in conclusion, I provide no insight into the question of who wrote that song, except for that little spiel. but I do wish to say that that day everyone was saying how pretty the moon looked? I saw it too! which I think is neat, coz I didn't know these things were quite that universal. I guess it makes sense considering... considering I dunno what. considering the way these things work. I guess... Sinister: Fox In the Snow

Hello all out there in Sinisterdom, I write to you on this formerly bleak day to share with you yet another tale of the healing powers of Belle and Sebastian... After reading, with much empathy and love, the narratives of multitudes of students whose lives have been blessed/lightened/made generally more wonderful by the music of "our" band, I thought I'd share my story. Today made me somewhat sad. You see, I'm a teacher, a professor if you will... and somedays one wonders just WHY the hell one got into the damnable (yet rewarding!) profession at all. After pouring out my heart and soul (for I teach not only from the intellect) on a lecture and discussion on a short story by Virginia Woolf and sharing one of my favourite poems by Maya Angelou with my freshman college Composition II class, I found that several students just up and left while my back was turned, and I was helping other students with essay writing. I felt so disheartened. I know I shouldn't take these things personally, that every student has reasons for poor performance, lack of interest, etc. that have nothing whatsoever to do with me. All that aside, it still hurt. I felt as though I couldn't breathe properly, as though I'd just given someone something infinitely valuable, and they'd tossed aside without even the least bit of consideration. My heart hurt. I wandered out to my car after class, feeling oh so very low. I turned on my stereo to find the lovely "Fox in the Snow" awaiting me. It made me feel utterly *consoled*. I came home and told my husband all about it and the lovely song (He's a B&S fan,too!) and he agreed with my every point and admitted that "...sinister" is his fave B&S cd. Good morning you lovely twee people!! Last night I watched Gregory's Girl and realized that Scottish people are so cute! Why did I not realize this when I was actually IN Scotland? Perhaps real Scottish people aren't as cute as movie Scottish people, or 2000 Scottish people aren't as cute as 1980 Scottish people. I wonder. I'll have to go back in January and find out, using empirical research! Too much Drew (drew.corrupt.net) has caused me to use too much punctuation!@@@!@:@$ Um, so I'm posting mainly to tell the NUDE YORK people to come to FEZ tonight to see STARS AND BAXENDALE AND MY LIFE STORY!! And to dance. See, there is a show at midnight and it's going to be rad. And since we're not sure anyone else is going to show up, it could be a Sinister picnic, only with girlie drinks! Sinister: Telepathic traffic

Ah. hem. a pleasant morning to you all. How goes the struggle in everyone's corner of the universe. In the New England region of the US, it's been quite cold and rainy lately. so much did it warm my heart to see that someone has a "list crush on me" awww. That's sweet and you wiley stranger made my day. Now the true detective work begins.. >I'll figure it out eventually!~ okay, now a question for some of you all out there. What's the origin of the world Twee? How did it get associated with a genre like this. I first heard it in relation to Bis, and i don't think B&S and Bis are quite similar at all (scottish-ness aside..). It's like Mogwai to Catatonia in my mind, I'll let you figure out who's who. Oh and I think I may have asked this already but was underwhelmed with the response.. did any listees attend the Mogwai show in Edinburgh in april? It was a warm up before Cambersands I think. (forgive me if I've misspelt Cambersands as well..) it would be nice to know I *nearly* met a lister... Bonjour mes petits sinisterins! Tomorrow is going to be a great day for me! I'm going to meet Mr Jordi and Elenita at the Mojave 3 concert and I'm quite nervous about it. At the end of the afternoon I'll be looking for a tall short haired boy and a dark skin girl and...
