There I was happily browsing the "pop" section in Borders when I came across it (not like that, you smutty person), nestled between The Virgin Big book of RAWK and Simon Price's Autobiography, or some old tat anyway. I didn't buy it at the time, but i think i may go and do so in a minute. *80s children TV* no comment, at all, oh no, that's right out *Posh Styoodents* Went to Ms Daplyn's exciting bond related birthday party on saturday, which was fun, but the posh styooodents were a bit intimidating (excepting those of this parish, of course ;)) for a commoner like meself *Painting Competition* The entries have been flooding in like one of those mega-tsunami things on the telly last week, ie about one every 150 years. I hearby declare that the closing date shall be FRIDAY, so get your smocks and berets out and get on with it *Louis Theroux* is the bollox, obviously, and apparently when interviewed in the Grauniad the other week said his favourite band were, hey, Belle and Sebastian. Sinister: Trick or treat?

Hello all, It's Monday again. I hate Mondays. I bet nobody really likes Mondays, but still, I hate hearing the clock at 6.45 and realising it's Monday again, that I have to get up and get my body to the Uni (as my brain stayed under the duvet). Sigh. I was back at my parents this week-end and it was cool. As I am back every two or three months so they treat me nice, my mum feeds me more than necessary, my brothers are nice and polite to me, and my dad tries to avoid painful conversations like my future as a graduate, even if he doesn't really manage to do so. Well I discovered afterwards they needed me to install stuff on the pooter, so they had to be polite. How corrupted is family love these days... During the week end, while doing nothing on the sofa, I started thinking again about oranges and its rhymes. English is a funny language, really. For example, "skint" and "pint" end up with the same letters but don't rhyme (or I say it wrong, which is a possibility). I hope you will admit that is not very logical. I guess being Red Teletubby is not really in the whole spirit of Halloween...What could I be? Sinister: summer dies/autumn arrives

hello pop kids, firstly, must say hi to ian nicholson who thinks my posts are excited and exuberant.... your £10 bribe is in the post.... well, i have had an exhausting weekend. on friday myself and a group of friends got together for a wee dram, which ended up in us all getting well and truly stramashed and we didn't get allowed into the student union, cos i was too blitzed. humph. and i ended up insulting one of my best and closest friends, for which i feel like a right tit. but i think it's all okay now. then on saturday i saw the delgados avec mr jarvis, mr jason andreas, miss lisa walker, mr neil milton and a whole heap of others, and what an amazing night it was too. they are truly grate. then we went to the union, i got let in and we danced until after 4am. *phew* then on sunday we spent the afternoon in the botanic gardens and wandering around the west end. i listened to nick drake and it was all dead nice. good autumnal music i think. Speaking of dreams and Jason Andreas.... I had a dream last night that I ran into Jason Andreas' MOTHER in some restaurant somewhere. She was signing paper placemats (!?) and mentioned something about her son Jason. And I said Jason? (it's my own brother's name also), and she said "Yeah, Jason Andreas". I was, like, WOW, what a small world, doesn't this guy live in Scotland? What the hell is his mother doing in California? Sinister: morph(!) Autumn, and Hallowe'en

Morph was indeed king. I see the whole likeness of Stuart Murdoch and Morph. They both have M in their name.... and both end with a H. But seriously, Morph was cool. He was a character that really was unique. So if Morph is Stuart Murdoch, does that make Kermit the Frog into Woody Allen? Power Puff Girls. My brother got me Buttercup as a soft doll thing, and as a keyring. Power Puff! Autumn is ace. Enjoy it. Its not as hot as summer, exams are still months away, and Christmas is round the corner. And there is a lovely scent of bonfires here in the Norfolk air. Its a good season. Plus, what other season gives you an extra hour to lie in bed? Not Spring, thats for certain! And theres something cosy about it all. Hallowe'en. I love Hallowe'en. When I was in Norway, two years ago, I held a hallowe'en party. The thing is, they don't really have it there, but the Norwegians whop came, put a hell of an effort into costumes. One girl tied rubber snakes into her hair, another covered herself with tin foil, and somehow made herself into some futuristic woman thing. She used tinfoil, blue material, and put wire in her hair tomake sticky out plaits. A couple of girls dressed up as Playboy bunnies, people really put a lot of effort in. It doesn't matter what you are supposed to be, just be creative. Tinfoil, tinsel, glitter, face paints, rubber snakes, low cut tops, hotpants, whatever you can think of. Imagination is the key, not really going "as " something. It was a trully cool Hallowe'en party. I got drunk. Anyway dearies, I must go and read chapter three of Jonas for two o clock, pay �500 rent, (even though I don't have it) put a cheque into my account, buy a TV licence, and do all sorts of other grown up things. Sinister: A load of arse

I was on my own in the flat, watching an old episode of Twin Peaks, the room lit only by the flicker of the screen and the dimmed lamp in the corner of the room. You have to create the right atmosphere to watch Twin Peaks, don't you? Coop was giving an in-depth and, dare I say it, unnecessarily long analysis of Wyndham Earl's psyche. Perhaps the scriptwriters had realised their episode was four minutes too short, or perhaps in three weeks time, something extraordinary would happen and I'd understand and be glad I'd sat through this and not got up to make a cup of tea. And then Tap... tap... tap... I sat perfectly still. The tapping continued, slow but regular. Gradually, I moved my eyes towards the patio doors. The tapping stopped. I squinted from the sofa and tried to see if anybody was outside, but my glance was met with a dim reflection of the room on the dark glass. I started to breathe again, and turned back towards the television. For a few minutes, all was as normal. Then Tap... tap... tap... This time, I sat up with a start. Nervous that some weirdo freak was looking in from the outside, I ran to the patio doors and drew the curtains, but the tapping continued and I realised that it was coming from inside, not out and it sounded less like something hitting glass and more like somebody gently tapping a drum with one finger. I directed my gaze across to the lamp and saw a large, brown moth hitting the shade, desperate to reach the light inside. Urgh! Moths! What to do? 'I know,' thought I, 'with my flatmate on holiday, I can use his room for the purposes of moth entrapment!' I switched on the light in his room, propped the door wide open and waited for the moth to flit through the dark flat to the comfort and light of the empty bedroom. Ha! Success! Off went the bedroom light, I slammed the door shut and settled back in front of the television to enjoy the rest of Twin Peaks. Then Tap... tap... tap... What? Another moth? No, this tapping did not emanate from the living room, but from the deserted bed chamber I'd closed the door on only a few minutes previously. A strange rapping it was, louder and faster than before. An eerie chill shot down my spine as I realised I must find out the source of the noise in order to spend my evening in peace. I crept into the hall and crouched on the floor, my ear to the door, listening to the rhythmic, rather hypnotic tapping. What should I do? Could I open the door? Could I bear to see the gory sight that would no doubt greet me? The tapping continued and I listened for what must have been five minutes or more, before I noticed a light coming from behind the door. You know how in Ghostbusters, the fridge goes a bit bonkers? It was like that, but in Stoke Newington. I felt myself drawn towards the brightness, but my feet were not moving. I was hovering, my toes approximately three centimetres above the ground, and being pulled closer and closer to the light. The door swung open! I was blinded! A foul-smelling wind of great strength swept my hair from my face! My eyes were forced open! Before me stood a giant moth, ten feet tall, with dusty, scaly wings that seemed to be made of... yes! Brown corduroy! What was this strange, supernatural beast that confronted me? Dared I look at its face? I dared! I recognised those spectacles, that floppy hair! It was... No! Yes! The face of... Chris Geddes! AAAAAAAARRRRRRGH! The Geddes monster came at me with an axe in his hand, swinging it from side to side and flapping his wings in a really spooky way. The sound of Frank Wilson came from nowhere and the Geddes monster started to spin. He spun so fast he started a little whirlwind in my flat, sending books and records and tealights flying all over the place. I ran into my room and buried myself under the duvet, because that's supposed to keep frightening things away, isn't it? My arse does it. The fiendish beast backflipped into my room and launched an attack on me so ferocious I can barely bring myself to describe it. Clump! The axe came down on me, severing my left arm. Slash! A knife found it's way between my ribs. Tinkle! Hundreds of haunted piano keys buried me alive, their weight crushing my lungs. Gelatinous blood sprayed the walls and stained my duvet cover. 'My goodness,' I thought, 'even Jacko from Brush Strokes would take ages to clean this mess up.' And then... Silence. The ferocious attack is over and the hideous creature has disappeared, leaving me beaten, bruised and in need of paramedics. I can hardly move and the phone is in the other room. Alrighty People Firstly let me apologise to the whole list as this mail is directed to one young lady in-particular. I somehow managed to drag my little drunken saggy man breasts to the Badly Drawn Boy gig last night in Glasgow. Whilst trying to stand upright in the crowd I met a young lady who is on the Sinister list. This is where the second apology comes in. Well I was, erm, slightly tipsy and was probably acting like a bit of a tit-bag. I don't even remember asking this young lady her name. So here goes................ Hello Groovers Sorry, but this first bit will mean nothing to non-brit-listees... Another blast (or is it an Atomic explosion?) from our televisual pasts - does anyone remember "Will Quack-Quack"? I know that I used to watch it ALL the time, but when I think back, I can only remember one episode, where Will Quack-Quack pulled a sickie from school, and his "Mam" made him stay in bed all day. Then she caught him stuffing his fat little beak with snails and spanked his tail-feathers. Most distressing. B&S content: My chum Tsz Wu was a stoodent in Glasgae and claims to have been chummy with some of our favourite band. "YAWN", I hear you yawn, BUT his tales of a B&S church hall gig describe about 1000 not-so-troubled teenagers being totally engrossed for their entire set, and in Tsz's words "I couldn't believe it - even the people at the BAR we're whispering!"
