Sinister: Squawk!

It rained all day today. It's autumn. I hate autumn. So depressing. I spent most of the morning wandering around the garden. It's so dead this time of year; the flowers are drooping brown skeletons if they still exist at all, the shrubs are bare and solemn, and the hedges are so lonely with their solitary color. I want to join with the plants, to give into the death surrounding me. I miss the birds in the trees, the squirrels hopping around with giant walnuts hanging out of their mouths. I miss summer. I put my walkman on and sat on the cobblestone wall next to our waterfall. I watched the wind and cried, cried until the tears turned my face into a damp mirror. I found no sun to reflect, so I cried some more. I threw my head in my hands and watched the teardrops slowly drop off my chin to form a small puddle on the wall beside me. I continued to cry; the puddle continued to grow. After I had created a substantial pool of tears I abruptly stopped and rubbed my eyes. I opened them to find a bird lapping up my salty lake. "Alas, who are you, fine, colored bird?" "Squawk!" Why was this bird (a tropical one at that!) here? Shouldn't he/she have migrated by now? Did he fail the remedial "Living as a Bird" class or something? I didn't know if I should pity or punish his stupidity. Upset as I was, i decided upon the latter. Using my lighter as a lever (I'm a smoker) I wedged a rock the size of an apple off of the wall. I stood and prepared to throw. "Squawk! Arr, matey, I be having a message for ye!" "Hark! Bird, you speak! What jabber have you for me, yonder winged fellow?" "Squawk!" And with that he flew away! I chased him around the garden, yelling for him/her to stop. My lungs aren't what they used to be. I'm a smoker. Frustrated, I stopped and sat down for a cigarette. Apparently the bird didn't want to give me his stupid message. And then: a light touch on my shoulder. "You! How dare ye trouble thou again!" "Arrr, I be havin' a message for ye!" "Well, tell me yer' bloomin' message or it'll be the plank for ye, aye!" "Arrr, you should be turning around, lad, aye!" And so I turned around. There, in the middle of the garden was a book. Where did it come from? I opened the cover. Inside it said simply "For Christiaan, x" "Arrr, I be havin' a message from yonder! Listmum Princess Honey of the Europes be sayin' you know what to do now, arrr!" "I-I--wait--you're the..? But, me? Why?" "Arrr, dinnae be askin' questions, lest I be makin' you'se walk the plank! Yonder Listmum Princess Honey says, 'go forth, go forth and find yonder Princess Christiaan of the Michigans, he shall know what to do with ye!' I be thinkin' you're a bloomin' retardo, aye, with you're crying and such. Aye, you should be a smilin'!" And so I opened the book to a random page. Or was it random? I believe in fate. Here is what it said: " The Song of the Daffodil Fairy I'm everyone's darling: the blackbird and starling Are shouting about me from blossoming boughs; For I, the Lent Lily, the Daffy-down-dilly, Have heard through the country the call to arouse. The orchards are ringing with voices a-singing The praise of my petticoat, praise of my gown; The children are playing, and hark! they are saying 'The Daffy-down-dilly is come up to town!' " I knew what was to be done. I smiled and stood up. I walked a few paces only to find a beautiful daffodil standing high in the midst of the decaying foilage. I plucked a petal and wrote the following with the brightest Love I could find: Dearest Honey: You know what to do. x, Christiaan I nestled the petal on the parrots back and sent him on his way. There will be no more tears; it is summer again. x Love, Christiaan PS: now you know why I wouldn't tell you who I was going to pick, honey :) PPS: I didn't break any poetry parrot rules, did I? PPPS: sorry, I know I broke like every list rule in the book on this post. Sinister: hot tiddies for ye tricksters

yes well... steven kado is apparently having some trouble in the way of halloween costumes (how depressing)...of course, if i had any fab ideas i would be a clever chicken and keep them to myself so i could be the belle of the proverbial ball...however, (sad)lisa (says) will not be attending any frightening-type bashes this blessed hallow's eve because "for christ's sake lisa, we need you at the bar!...oh and by the way be sure to wear the sexyist (aka most condescending) costume that catty body of yrs can fit into...yr a doll hun- think of the tips. and the lager keg kicked so can you change it before you leave?" fab. all i need are people who are more drunk than me (disturbing point number 1) putting their slimy little hands up my skirt(disturbing point number 2) and demanding that i buy their table shots of jack daniels because they are so irrestistabley handsome (disturbing points number 3 and 4) and could i please perform at least one lap dance before i go and get their beer (obviously number 5)...pish.... anyhow i thoughts that i would give mr. kado a few tips on what NOT to do to make up for my own lack of creativity: 1) do not appear as a mummy, fully wrapped in swaddling cloth and proceed to light yrself on fire riding down main street on a skateboard. 2) try to avoid going as any piece of furniture. i was a love seat last year and after passing out on the floor an extremely intoxicated couple proceeded to have sex on me...the culprit in #1 also almost lit me on fire... 3) any paint on the skin is bad news for two reasons: a)most is not completely removable...imagine the horrors of the morning after...not only a massive hangover, but pink tinted skin...people ould think you were a crazed pink panther fan...this i also learned from experience however i will not share for fear of loosing all dignity...(yes- it is worse than the love seat incident) b) its flamable 4)beware of being completely naked under any costume especially paperbags and saran wrap. you, most likely, will spend the night naked on the front lawn of the chi alpha chi fraternity house...were they are having a bon-fire in light of the festivities... 5)this has nothing to do with fire, but if you turn up at a party as morrissey than you will (mark my words) get beat up either on the way to the party, at the party, on yr way home from the party, or all of the above... i would suggest going as a candy cane. it is very eroctic and all you have to do is strategically place yr red and white... now if you will excuse me. i am off to the barracks...some girl kissed me this weekend and now she is coming over. tisk. must devise strategy to escape. damn. oh hell-fuck. yes fuck...........damn. -lisa _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Hi All, IT'S A COOL, COOL, CHRISTMAS The Oct 12th edition of Marketing Week contains an article about a Christmas album (title as above) put out by Xfm to raise money for The Big Issue Foundation, stating that Belle and Sebastian have recorded a track for it. So apparently have Teenage Fanclub, Grandaddy & The Dandy Warhols. On sale 20th November for £10.99, of which £4 goes to the charity. Anyone want to divulge which song they recorded? OUR MAN IN THE MOSHPIT (1) ROYAL FESTIVAL HALL Busy week for gigs. Followed V-Twin with the Incredible String Band & Delgados. The former weren't as appalling as I dreaded: although 30+ years have deepened the voices & cropped the range they still managed to move me when they sang numbers such as Air, old Sinister mix-tape favourite Ducks On A Pond, Painting Box, etc. The 36-legged Delgados were excellent, ending with a storming version of No Danger which even drew some audience members from their seats to dance! OUR MAN IN THE ... (2) SCALAGAIN Took Liz' advice & went to see Broadcast. The 60's theme continued (Delgados took the stage to a Bert Jansch song, Broadcast to Pentangle's Light Flight). Mostly I always just listened to the singer's voice & what the keyboard player did before, but on this occasion I was especially struck by the tricky time signature power trio that constitutes the rest of the band. The drummer is great, not just the way his gold tooth glints in the light of the films projected on the backdrop, but because he puts his entire soul into what he does. Even Trish just stood at the end of the gig grinning with pleasure watching him. Drums On Fire indeed. OUR MAN ... (3) GARAGE Where we met "Sinister's most beautiful couple" (Ailsa, if my memory serves me well) Arantxa & Robin. Hmm. If Whistler are getting so many gigs, couldn't that girl afford another dress? Another great gig from Cinerama, even though Leeds' answer to Bruce Springsteen was more RAWK! than I had ever seen him before, encouraging the sad sight of a 30 year-old moshpit. NOT DRAGGING UP KIDS TV ON THE LIST AGAIN, BUT... Erica can't be a stupid bint, because she's actually Lady Penelope. GET YOUR YA YA'S OUT Which one of The Pine Fox's Stones posts didn't get replied to, The Alternative ATP one, or the Stevie Reverb as Brian Jones one about the Millennium Tube appearance? I'll discuss 5 string guitars with funny tunings with you anyday. Sinister: snakes, snails, puppy-dog tails

Hello EveryBuddy, Hope you are all well. Maybe one of you hipsters can help me out with a question I have. Has anyone ever heard of a band called "Stars"? I was looking through the paper at the list of upcoming shows in town and stumbled upon this band. They were described as "Belle & Sebastian with beats", huh. Sounds intriguing enough. I'm just scared I'll show up at the show and be the only one not wearing reflective clothing and whipping a glow-stick in the air. Cartoons --- One of the best cartoons of the late 80's was Jem. Pink hair, rock & roll, holograms - it had it all. Maybe it's just a girl thing though. I still have my Jem doll and guess what, her Jem-star earrings still light up and flicker when I flip the switch on her back! And they have to be about 15 years old, wow. Does anyone remember Smurfberry Crunch cereal? A taste sensation in breakfast foods unparalleled to this day. Nostalgic for the 80's, who would have thought. Then everything had to get all "U Can't Touch This" on us. Sinister: Is it wicked not to care?

Hi, I am really not that very interested in politics and current affairs and rather more egocentric so I'm going to talk about myself, and red bull, if that's ok. I've spent the last three weeks submerged in alcohol, it is, like, every single night. I drink, then I drink more. Which is real bad, I know one is supposed to become lost in an alcoholic haze during freshers week in Uni but not for three weeks, especially not for an experienced third year student like me who have (ahem) important work to do. I don't know. I wake me every day, all shattered, wondering whether I am down with the flu (which I am), I am tired due to constant lack of sleep? (which I am) or I am just hungover (which I am). An e-mail from Ken never really gets away from information about his sexual conquests, of course. Well, a girl that I kinda likes is next door to me in my hall having a party at my neighbour's now, great. If only I am a friend with my neighbour and I take the same interest in drum and bass that my neighbour does... actually then I would be a moke. I would really like to cry, and at this moment in time, the conflicts in the world are really, the least of my worries. All I would like to care about is whoever that wants to care about me. My head is too simple, tired and drunk to think about anything else. I am going to listen to "There's too much love" in a bit and hope that the excess love that seems to be going around will come round to me soon. I have borrowed my friend's four track recorder last night, and it is a rather clever piece of equipment, and I shall have a whale of a time recording stuff on it. Playing String Bean Jean is especially fun. This really sad song that I am going to write is going to happen real soon, if a sad person writes sad songs then oh yes, this song is going to happen soon, but you lot will just wait for a little bit more. hello dear sinisterees, how are you all this lovely afternoon? its been a wonderful weekend so far. since it is halloween time i went on a haunted hayride at this farm last night. everyone on the hayride was white trash. there were alot of white girls with overly big hoop earrings that tried to act like they were ghetto. and they were loud and obnoxious. they were cursing and yelling dumb things, and it wasnt at all apprppriate becasuse there were little kids on the hayride. so some people told them to shut up and then they started yelling and cursing back and forth and we almost witnessed a fight on the hayride! i felt like i was in a bad tv show.. anyhow, the point of this email is that i am coming to scotland and england in march, and i need to know where there are fun things to do and places to hang out. so if anyone could be of any assistance, that would be wonderful . i cant wait to get out of america! i am so excited. also when is this bowlie thing that i always here all the uk kids talk about? and what exactly is it? xoxo, lauren* +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org.
