OK so here we go: I have both PPG videos, a bubbles keychain, a talking buttercup watch, and the fanzine. They have the playsets (series 2, mind you) at Meijers (if you Brits don't know what Meijers is you have my permission to fuck off), and I plan on buying them soon. As two of our sinister sistahs, the fabulous Julie S. and the overall amazing Marie Elia, can attest to, I bring PPG merchandise to anyone kind enough to provide me housing in far away places. Furthermore, I use PPG packaging of some sort. So, like, invite me over even though you don't know me. Actually, I tend to invite myself over, so just sit tight and pray to whoever you pray to that this piece of loveliness desires your company (or more likely: your location). And the soundtrack. There's an album, you know. The artist list is amazing: Devo, Frank Black, Apples in Stereo, Optiganally Yours, Shonen Knife, Komeda, Dressy Bessy, Bis, Cornelius and more. As the lovely Rhett Miller once said, it's fucking great. Speaking of that superfuckingsexygodiwanthishotbodyallovermysweatyskin boy, he also has a bubbles notebook. Is he great or what? Oh, since I'm on the topic of homoerotic fantasies, I've decided I want to kiss a boy. Let it be noted that the first boy I intend to kiss is Brian Winters. Sorry all you others, but there will be none of *this* for you. At least, not right now *wink wink*. I'd love to tell you sweeties about my latest sexual fiascos, but I really can't be bothered right now. The list of people waiting to be saucy with me is growing and growing and growing, I'm having trouble keeping up.. Oh, one last note. A friend of Superriffic Stoo has been making PPG drawings of sinister folk. The first is an excellent little number of Stoo as Blossom. I think. The other is of myself and fellow listees Julie, Marie, and Molly muthafuckin D(estroyah), the last who is currently enjoying some time in Spain. Why do I tell you this? Well, apparently Stoo is quite easy to manipulate. Be nice to him and maybe you too can be a Power Puff Girl. Hi everybody! Please excuse my counter-rant. Isn't it so very sad that after all the world's been through people still hope other countries and their citizens get "flattened"? This miscreant is openly advocating the murder of innocent civilians. And on a B&S list, no less! What could this sort of person's appreciation for B&S amount to if they harbo(u)r such malice toward other people based on their nationality or religion? Aren't most of B&S' songs about people who are different from the majority? Doesn't the poster realize how sad the members of B&S would be to know that even one of their fans could be so cruel? If a fan of my band expressed such despicable animosity, I would tell them to fuck off and NEVER tell anyone they liked us. Then I would write a song about what an asshole they were. I should say that war and killing make me ill WHOEVER is doing it. I am partly of Jewish descent, but I do NOT support aggressive action by Israel. They, of all countries, should know better. Stooping to somebody else's level of killing innocent civilians is primitive and unjustifiable. (Live and let live!) But the proper response to such stupidity is not to "flatten" them -- that makes you no better than they are, and it takes no intelligence whatsoever. Use your brain and find some civilized way of making them stop! BTW, it's my understanding that FIFA originally grouped Israel in Europe to minimize potential conflicts (aside from matches) between Israelies and the largely Arab residents of other middle eastern states. I doubt very much the Arab world is pouting about not being able to compete in the Eurovision song competition. I hate to be the one to inform Mr. White of this, but the entire world does not necessarily consider acceptance into Europe as a sign that they have made it. Most of us are quite comfortable with our own civilizations! I thought we were further along than this. It seems we still have a lot of work to do. yeah i remember i used to absolutely adore Pole Position, but i can't remember very much else about it. I think I've still got a Dogtanian video in the loft as well. I hope someone else out there has seen them, beacuse they will know what I mean. I was in woolworths the other day and I found a Bubbles toy scattered in with the batteries. So I looked for the rest. Lo & behold, there was a pile of them. Bubbles, Blossom & Buttercup. All 4.99 each for the smalls, and there was a Buttercup medium for 12.99 WHAT A BARGAIN! pity i can't afford it Bubbles must be my favourite character. She's the smallest and the cutest.And those big blue eyes...... By the way, BIS do the theme tune. Must be the best theme tune I've ever heard for anything. I'm coming down to glasgow next week so watch out! Hello Sinisterees, I'm afraid this post is going to be something of a rant about something which really has annoyed me. I have been sitting this afternoon watching the news on satellite TV about all this shit that is going off in Israel and to be honest, I'm a bit miffed about it. Can anybody explain to me why Israel gets away with the shit it does? I mean they are as I write this, launching numerous air attacks on Palestine cities because two of their soldiers were killed this morning in a riot. Fair dues, it's not on killing people in riots, but is it not a bit over the top to then launch apparently random and indiscriminate attacks on cities full of innocent people. What really gets me about it though is the hypocrisy shown by countries such as Britain and the US. When old Slobba was killing the Kosovo people last year it took about ten minutes (well ten minutes after it appeared on telly) before the threats were issued by Clinton and the air strikes started but they seem to turn a blind eye to Israel. Admittedly I was not a huge fan of bombing Yugoslavia but nonetheless NATO and that lot set a precedent by getting involved. Why after years and years of killing and generally stirring it up in the Middle East, ignoring UN resolutions, refusing to negotiate in peace talks and forcefully removing Palestinians from their territory, has America and NATO or whoever not got involved in bombing the shit out of Israel or at least ostracising them and imposing sanctions against them? I'm quite sure that the Palestinians are not innocent and have caused a great deal of trouble over the years but surely their cause is no different to that of the Kosovars in Yugoslavia and the Kuwaitis when Iraq invaded them, in that they are people who have found their land taken off them and want the right to live on it, and as we all know the offenders in those cases were both on the recieving end of a fair old pounding from the West. Perhaps it only works if there's oil or communists involved. On a similar subject why is Israel included as part of Europe? It's quite clearly not on the map of Europe but every year they get into the Eurovision song contest and they play in European football competitions and are generally percieved as a European nation (in lifestyle if not location). Perhaps it's because they have a predominantly non-Arab population and that in the eyes of the powers that be makes them alright, which is frankly racist and downright insulting to the rest of the Middle East countries. Personally, I hope the rest of the Middle East countries get involved in this current situation and flatten the place. (disclaimer: This last sentence is my opinion, you may agree or disagree with it but it is an opinion and as such I stand by it, please do not bother emailing me with abuse if you do not agree) Now for something completely different.... It was sad to hear about the death of Donald Dewar. Somebody on the list said that you don't really appreciate the impact a person makes until they die and that is so true. I don't really care too much about the whole Scottish parliament thing but now that Dewar is dead, I can now start to appreciate how much the whole thing meant to him and how much he worked to get it up and running. He also seemed like a genuine guy which is something of a rarity in politics. If you've read this far, thank you and goodnight. I'd sort of hoped not to post for a bit, after sending two utterly inconsequential posts in the last week, but I'm very bored and feel like typing for a bit. Typing with two hands, y'know. Fingers on the right keys and everything! Anyways, I'm in one of these Internet cafes so feared by Ally96 (actually, it's not much of a cafe. I mean, I wouldn't come here for tea and scones of a Sunday afternoon with my maiden aunt and the vicar. It's more of an internet fast food place. One affiliated with a certain airline, which is probably horribly commercial and everything, but heck, my ideals go to pot when it's raining out) and the girl sitting through the partition from me keeps inadvertantly kicking my leg ever so slightly and I'm a bit worried that I might end up kicking back very hard. So I'm sitting in a very awkward position, with my legs as far back as they'll go. Robin Stout mused: "It's raining again, and the season makes me play Scott Walker records." In the immortal words of Damo Suzuki, oh yeah! I had a Scott Walker afternoon on Tuesday. 'Scott 3' is very much an album for bleak autumn afternoons, when it's raining out and you're in the house on your own and the room's freezing, so you've put the fire on for the first time this year and you're drinking lots of tea and looking out the window at the greyness and you're wondering just what's happened to your life. Etcetera. 'Scott 4' is more of an autumn evening album. I wouldn't try 'TILT' if you're at feeling at all fragile, or of a nervous disposition, mind. Marty GGGGG wrote of his troubles in blagging posters in New York. Somewhat bizzarly I once got a Tigermilk poster free with a haircut (in Edinburgh, not New York). Now that can't happen often, can it? If I keep going back perhaps I'll end up with the entire Belle and Sebastian merchandising range. I might look like Duncan Goodhew, though. Is it worth it? Hmm... "Isobel is making a Gentle Waves video, and she's going to Rome to finish it, because we can't get a sunny day over here. However, we need a couple of horses for her to ride." Erk... Was there really a kids telly programme called 'The Red Hand Gang'?! Surely not. One can only imagine what it was about! Actually, I believe the red hand gang are visiting Edinburgh this Saturday... At the risk of continuing the ever recurring 'vintage children's television' thread I have a Willo the Wisp audio tape that we used to play in the car on long journeys which I dug out at the weekend after seeing a programme about Kenneth Williams on Saturday night. Kenneth was ace. So hung up about everything. Can I nominate David White as the new Mark E. Smith for his, uh, intelligent and well thought out post about the Middle East? (Only kidding, David!) I think it might just be a very complicated business indeed and not one for the US or the UK or NATO to jump in feet first. With big heavy boots on. Not that that usually stops them. So's not to end a a minor note, haven't Amy Jackson's posts since moving to Glasgow been the most excited and exuberant (notebooks out tautology fans!) Sinister posts in a while? One was with a guy who dresses up in a Bigfoot suit (long before The Hendersons!) and scares the kids and there was the other one where a little boy is kidnapped and the Gang track him down. I always used to think it was funny how Lil Bill used to ride his skateboard in that unique fashion in the opening credits, ie by lying on it and propelling it along with his hands. Whatever happened to Matthew Laborteux, BTW? God the last time I posted the world was in black and white and you could get into the cinema with an empty jam jar. After reading all the mails about the old cartoons and shit like Bananaman and Superted. The only one that springs to my mind is 'Jamie and his Magic Torch.'
