Sinister: familiar smells

It was a quiet day in Sinisterland when some of the inhabitants started to notice a strange smell in the air. Some of the newer members were puzzled by this but the older members were more so, they recognised the smell from somewhere but just couldn't place it. Then some bright young chap said "I know what it is, it's cinnamon." Some of those who heard him agreed and it was soon decided that such a smell could mean only one thing, The Narrow Wizard was back. "Is that bad?" asked one newer Sinisterine but he was answered with cries of "No, no" and one particularly humourous person replied with a giggle "Only if you're a pretty girl" And then the smell became stronger and a figure appeared as if by magic, and the figure was thin and a bit funny looking. And then the narrow wizard spoke unto the sinister "Awright you lot, I'm back at uni for a Masters and so thought I'd see how you were all doing, besides I needed to inspect the new members. What a fun week Ive had! This time last week I got dumped. Which was nice. This time this week, I find out my band has split. Our drummer is leaving to join another band. Grrrrrrrr Still, it was only a matter of time. He was the best performer in our band. Actually Ive been waiting a while for him to quit. Now hes joining all of the nu-metal shite. I dont think he knows what hes letting himself in for. The band hes leaving for is better than mine. Without a doubt. He doesnt know who exactly is in it, but theyve got this guy peter who is the best guitarist in the school. Pity he likes korn, etc What a waste. He likes B&S too, but only in small doses. He actually hates korn & slipknot and all the rest, so I dont know what theyre going to play. Unless they brainwash him Why would he want to stay in a band called Prisoners of Society (taken from the Living End) anyway? We are so dumb we cant even think of our own name. Ill change the subject. I was watching telly yesterday. Well I only watched a little. I saw Blue Peter. That new girl is so much better than Katy Hill. I cant remember her name at the moment. She must be the perfect BP presenter. She smiles all the time, shes intelligent-ish, she is reasonably good looking, and shes a good cook. Katy was far too full of herself. Damn, Katys presenting live&kicking at the weekend. Did anyone else watch the Frank Skinner show last night? Im so glad thats back on, instead of that unplanned crap with David Badeil-or-whatever-his-second-name-is. Bjork was amazing. She described Iceland as charming in her sweet wee accent. I want to go there now. I hope Frank shows the clip where he dances in just his underwear, like he did last series. That was one of the funniest things ever. (Apart from Harry Hill and Stufur) I got a heap of other things to say, but I dont want to make it any more boring than what it already is Luv Johnboy p.s. I dont know much about messerschmits. I had a model of a 262 on my ceiling when I was younger, as well as a 242(?) I cant remember them now. Did I make them numbers up? I think, the 262 was the first rocket engine. There's not much difference between snails and slugs, apart from the fact that snails have to lug their houses about with them everywhere. Are slugs just snails who have lost their houses, perhaps in some kind of slimy, very slow accident? Or maybe they've had them taken away by the council. Either way, they're going to be cold this winter. Chicken are good, the way they lay eggs and that. Like shitting a melon, that's how someone once described having a baby. I wouldn't want to do it twice, no siree. That's the thing about kids, full of surprises. Little bleeders, look what they've done to my good pot-plant, I tell you, when I get my hand on them their lives won't be worth Find a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck. Bollocks. In my day if you picked up a penny you'd be called a jew. Why, I have no idea . "Jew; not 'did you'; Jew. I'm telling you..." Weather wise, things are strange. Cold cold. Hot hot. Or at least lukewarm. I can't see properly out of one eye. It's giving me headaches. It will cost 40 pounds to fix this. Do I have 40 pounds? Technically, yes, but's that's not to say that I In the disjointed, fading light... Curtains are strange, aren't they? You close them when it gets dark. Surely that only makes things darker, unless you have one of those fancy electronic lamps I've heard about. Modern life is sluggish. Walking downhill backwards, talking to you... Trying to make sense of life is like trying to climb a hill. Time consuming and tiring. Of course it's all worth it if you've an egg to roll down. Painted pink and any other colour of your choice. Tell me Easter's on a Friday... Surprises are sometimes good, of course. Like when you get something you didn't know you didn't want until now. Another one to tick off the list. Just smile and say something predictable. Or something unpredictable, but in a predictable way. Naturally morning came, and all the news had changed... Sorry for wasting whatever time you have left. Hello people, It's been quite interesting at university so far. Even if I do have 9 o'clock shorthand classes, and tutorials FIRST THING IN THE AFTERNOON. What else happened? Oh yes, I requested a Ballboy song at Offbeat and no-one danced, so all the Sheffield people that were at Offbeat last Friday..... :op Only kidding, chaps. Oh, and I just had a horrid lesson, where the prof guy said "interview the person next to you", and so I had to be interviewed by a horrid trendy girl, and I had to correct her spelling of Belle & Sebastian. And when she was writing up the interview and was looking for words to describe me, she turned to me and said "what's another word for modest?". I showed her how to use Word's thesauraus, and she chose self-effacing... Still, mustn't complain, eh? I could talk about Kid A, but I don't have it. This is because I wandered into Record Collector today, and when I left I found I'd spent £20 by mistake. Still, I did have two Kristen Hersh albums and the Hefner single (both discs). Damn, how twee am I?? Yes, well. Or something. I'm hungry, I'm going to go home and eat more onion rings. It's not my fault, they ran out of chips. But I have to cycle uphill for a very very long way. But that's the price you pay for using a bike to cycle downhill all the way to lessons, traversing half the city in about 15 minutes. I'd better go, don't you think. Blimey, you make a short observation about a foreign language and the next thing you know everyone's talking about old aeroplanes. And thats why the sinister list is grate. Steven Kado said: "discuss: comics. now!" OK I wouldn't describe Dan Clowes as an overdone bozo though I admit most of his stuff (like early 8balls) is hard to come by in the sticks areas of englishland. Ghost World is one of my favourite graphic novels -like- ever man. Lout Rampage is worth a look especially if you're into Jack T Chick spoofs and repulsive artwork. He's not as funny as Peter Bagge though. Someone nice whose name I can't remember asked whether Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms was actually full of fine china crockery. It isn't. It does have fairly civilised bouncers and improved toilets but it's your usual Church of St. Lamaq small venue. Having the Deladgos and Clearlake there should improve things immeasurably though. It's gonna be difficult to do a digital painting of B&S on Top of the Pops since I never saw it. I might just use some amazing photomanipulation software to put B&S on TOTP back in its 60s glory days. And have Jimmy Saville attacking Struan instead of a gorilla. Disturbing thought. Sinister: Take Me Home Cecil Rhodes

During the Spanish Civil War, a Messerschmitt BFW 109B/C was captured in Teruel. I don't know whether it was shot down or they caught it in a huge butterfly net or whether it was resting on a nearby hillside when a gigantic catlike robot pounced on it. Anyway, it was inspected by French technicians before being sent to the USSR, wherever that is. Who started all this Messerschmitt nonsense anyway? I bet it was Rodd. We had a picnic on Saturday, it was GRATE. We sat outside a bar with manky toilets where we were entertained by an endless round of talentless street musicians as we discussed matters such as Montgolfier Magic and the Piano Brothers, played guess the listee's age (you can now play guess the listee whose age we guessed), marvelled at the prospect of Trousers possibly coming down and generally had a GRATE time. Then we went to look for Nazi memorabilia at a market stall, but had to make do with Falange bric-a-brac. Falange rhymes with orange. If you're sucking on a Polo mint. Then Elenita999 went to the beach while the rest of us retired to one of the finest restaurants in Barcelona. Once again, the toilets left a little to be desired. I don't know about the others, but I had a bit of an upset tummy later on. Then we had a quick whizz round the listening posts and Natascha bought some clever books. Judging by what the rest of the people in the huge check-out queue were carrying, it was the most intellectually satisfying purchase of the day. But none of this is really any of your business, because it was a Segundos de luz picnic, which are much better than Sinister picnics. Sod off, B&S Primrose mafia! On Sunday I took Struan's advice and went to church. It was a Catalan Orthodox service, so I didn't understand much. At one point two women tried to shake hands with me, but I was having none of it! There were no hymns, and the vicar was wearing a green cassock. Some people look as if they wished they'd got eyes in the back of their head, they don't miss a thing. As for hidden images behind the clamp thing, I recall a friend showing me a cd years ago that had something hidden, but I can't think what the album was - depeche mode, maybe? maybe not. I do regularly check behind new CDs just in case... Is anyone going to see the Delgados at the weekend? Does anyone know if Cousteau are any good? Hi, I have bought kid a today, and I am still not sure if I like it or not.. at the moment I think it's not bad, but it's not great, definitely not grate. I will however reserve my final judgement until more listens, just because it's radiohead. There seems to be a huge lack of real songs in it tho, and the last song Motion Picture Soundtrack I loved when I found it as an acoustic mp3 version is not quite as good on the album, and they made me listen to a minute of silence for the "bonus track".. Maybe the next album in a few months will be better, or maybe I'll grow to like it like I do with most things. Actually, I'm listening to it now and I'm liking it a bit more, at least the occasional bits with lyrics in it. oh dear... let's hurt the little automatic-title-adding machine's head, yes? may i just say that i've -finally- joined the travis fans? travis is the best thing ever. my friend lizzie came to visit me at college and she made a poster-collage for me, and part of it said, "last night a record changed my life," and i said, "yes, i know exactly what that means." and... it has a picture of STEPHIN MERRIT on it! i wish i were gay so i could lust after him. as it is i can only lust after the puppy he's holding. i am also a little famous because jen sbragia from the softies and the all-girl summer fun band e-mailed me. yeah! and beta band is great. i got this from high fidelity of course, BUT, did anyone notice... that rob's record store has a copy of NICK DRAKE'S bryter later? look for it on the rack the first time he goes in... it's fuzzy but it's there.
