Hello! If, like me, you have been keeping up with the world of humour and the world of Pop, you may have heard of a band called Super Sister! Blatantly ripping off the WORLD OF GREATNESS that is created by my husband Drew <http://drwe.corrupt.net>, they have written a song with their own wee handies called Coffee! In which they compare their ideal Boy Crush to a cup of coffee! HOT, STRONG, and SWEET! (like toffee)! Someone made a funny joke, saying they like their men like they like their toilet roll, strong, long, and absorbent! Do you think thats funny! I do! Haha! UK Listees, a word of advice! Bring It On is released on October the 10th. Go and see it! Does anyone know how you get tickets to movie premieres if you're English and worst of all from the North and worst of all don't have a heroin problem which keeps your weight down to negative currency? If so, please email me, and I'll make you mojitos. They are my favourite cocktail. Its the mint! It's the lime! Its the fact it has booze in it, which is always a plus. Myself and a fellow listee went to see the Dum Dums recently, and are ashamed that Sweetie beat us, their number one fans! They did a cover of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, using the drummer as a human beat box, nto as in they beat him up, as in like those rapper dudes, like Public Enemy and Debbie harry and Phil Oakey in my favourite Human League song, Love Action. Even Constant Spray do a bit of rapping, volapuk really lends itself to rap which is an unexpected turnup for the books. Dom at binom lödöp obsik is really rad!!! It means, "This Country Is Mine". I'm making a website for constant spray, so watch this space. Of course I also have to work on the one for Stars, but ... aye aye aye I'm your little butterfly... good to be a butterfly, no-one wants to hunt down butterflies. *remembers 20s novels about butterfly catching*. Whoops. time to watch father ted, hmm does anyone ever try socks on before they buy them? I never have. Bye bye! Sinister: Yay! It's stuff relating to me in some fashion or another!

Well I thought I'd post again, due to the increase of talk about Portland! Honey bought a record by our very own Pink Martini- a fabulous band indeed! They usually play at my school's winter and/or spring formals, which are a bit more of a meat market than anything else. Well, at least back in the old days when they served us booze. Now you have to sneak it in, so it's just not worth it. But Pink Martini are all right in my books! Adam Conover felt all warm and fuzzy inside because our very own Jen from The Softies and AGSFB emailed him. Jen felt even more special when I told her how famous she is now that everyone on sinister heard just how famous and neat she is! And Adam is tops, because he likes the Beta Band, just like me. Carmel said she just moved to Portland and couldn't find anyone to play with. There's a large contingency of indie kids in this here town and a small contingency of us sinisterees. Of course we've never had a picnic despite my lame ass efforts. I wouldn't be surprised if we've all been at a few of the same shows, though. And non-Portland-related but me-related because I used to live there, Feather Boa is moving to York, which despite all my bitching and moaning while I was there, I miss dearly. I really only met one other B&S fan and he broke my heart, so stay away from him. But there were a few other people I'd see in B&S shirts. My favorite one to watch (B&S boy, as I called him) probably finished his degree, so I'm sure he'll be gone. But there are lots of ace people at the radio station (as well as a few not so ace people, but nevermind them), so you should go be one of them. Finally, lots of people have crushes, myself included. We met at the desk lottery last month (we're so academic we have lotteries to see who gets the best desks in the library) but I couldn't remember his name. Rather, if his name was one of two that sound a lot alike. So last weekend I got all smart and stuff and decided to check the list and see the names of the people that sit at the desk he's at. What are the odds that the two possible names that could be his are the two names of the people at that desk?! Oh the irony. Needless to say, I've not gotten very far in talking to him. I almost put a note on his desk asking if he wanted to take a cigarette/coffee break with me but decided that would be very sad. Friends have suggested everything from rifling through his desk (mmm... creepy?) to crouching behind bushes and calling out one of the two names when he passes and seeing if he turns to look (riiiight). So instead I think I'll just sit at my desk and think about how silly this all is. That and try to think up ways to muster up enough courage to talk to him. hello everybody, oh what a crazy time it has been lately. i have been listening to b&s non-stop lately. i think its because even though i always loved them, after the new album came out it sort of rekindled the fire for me. it made then new to me all over again. i've been trying to listen to them and forget about all my problems. i am obbsessed with the model... i've gotten myself into quite a mess with the boys. for a couple months i didnt date a single sole, now i am dating two boys at once. i didnt mean for it to happen. it just sort of did. i think they would both be really mad at me if they knew this, so should i just keep quiet about it and continue to see both of them? or maybe should i pick one? im afraid to decide on one, because maybe i will get sick of him and then i wont have the other one around anymore. (i dont know why but it seems like after i date them for a short time i almost inevitably get sick of them, which is sort of ironic because i always dream about having a boyfriend who i love and have a commitment with, yet it seems like after about 5 dates i am ready to move on)..anyhow i know this sounds horribly selfish, but theres got to be people on this list who have been in this situation before. i dont understand why when you are alone and not seeing anybody it seems as if you will never meet anyone, but then once you start seeing someone suddenly all these people who like you start coming out of the woodwork. poor jen, i felt so bad for her at the poor old persons home. i hate going to them, the smell of piss permeates every single section of the building. it sounds like you have alot to put up with there jen. you should look for a new job. ive had lots of jobs and i think that my favorite job that ive had is a barista at a small little cafe. for some reason i always imagine the uk as having all sorts of these quaint little places, as oppossed to the corporate coffee generic places in america. finding work isnt that hard, i should know since i seem to have a new job every week. the hard part is finding your niche. but keep at it i am sure you will find something. i heard the new radiohead and i think it is brilliant... and finally, is anyone in the philadelphia region going to see godspeed you black emperor next tuesday? if so let me know. xoxo, lauren* +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. Sinister: Tu Veux Ou Tu Veux Pas

It's been a while. People are writting about planes and languages and the new radiohead album. I never liked Radiohead. I think they are the *intellectual* excuse to the vulgarity and commonness of the *indie* music scene. Some people in here will probably hate me for such a statement, but this is my humble opinion anyway. not so humble! I do hate this word! Actually, I liked the radiohead bloke's brother band much more. I think they were more genuine. they were the La's, a band from Liverpool, I reckon. With John Powers from Cast in... I'm not sure if the yoke brother was in La's, but I haven't got time for facts now anyway! But, it's time to go back to the Pauline L's world. As I told you in my last post, me and my best friend Althea, had a picnic on our own in Prague's botanical garden. It was a perfect day, sunny and warm. And we flashed our red knickers. An old man was passing by holding his 7-years-old grandson's hand, and he almost had a heart attack. His face got all red! But I guess his grandson was more interested in such a spectacle! Little boys get naughty in such a small age nowadays, don't you think? I also told you that I met this musician, Anton. He came to us and asked for our lighter. I love men who smoke. I don't know why, but the non-smokers always make me feel uncomfortable and put me in that apologetic mood which I despise. Anton is very gifted. He seems to live in a world of his own; which is a good thing. We went to the Prague riots together. All these people! I'd spent hours and hours in my garde robe room trying to figure out what to wear. Althea came to pick me up and I wasn't ready. Finally I wore a pair of black D&G trousers - they were last season so I didn't really care if they'd get dirty or torn apart or anything - and a tight Apollo 440 t-shirt (!) and over that my Hope & Glory hooded jacket! If any of you had anything to do with the *joy-riding* era in england, 7 years ago, you'd probably remember the Hope & Glory clothes line... Oh and my red camper shoes. Last season too, but I guessed and I guessed right that they'd be ruined as well! Campers are so off-season! That was the most important part of the prague riots really! what I was wearing! 'Cause we did have the same old stuff. people screaming their lungs out, really badly dressed students, people at their 50s who looked at some skateboarding boys in amazement and envy! We did a lot of running; next day my thighs were aching. Nothing serious though; nothing that two hours of horseriding couldn't fix, if you know what I mean! So, we went there. Me, Althea and Anton; With whom I had a bad argument over music. He said that Belle and Sebastian are ripping off Love and Felt, and that made me so angry! As I said it's a different thing to rip other bands off and another to pay your respect to these bands with your music. He then asked me who I liked more: B&S or Love? but the answer was obvious! What do I have to do with Love? They were OK, for their era, but they do bore me after 3 or 4 songs. But Felt, Felt is another story. I don't think that anyone could rip Felt off! It's impossible! Anyway, Anton pissed me off! I think he's too much of a commoner for me. His family has lots of money, his father owns this chain of clothes stores. But who cares? it's *new money* and it shows! I think Althea is interested though. And she could have him really. Nothing happened between me and Anton anyway, and Althea and I use to share everything. talking about Althea her brother came from England; he's doing his PhD in philosophy there; I haven't seen Daniel for years. He's 30 years old now and so cute that makes my knees feel all weak everytime he looks at me! Daniel is living with his dad in London. You see Althea's parents are divorced and she lives here with her mum, where as her brother moved to London when he was 18 and lives there ever since; so, I could only see him in summer for a couple of weeks during his holidays. I used to have this crush on him since I can remember myself. And we snogged once; that was 3 years ago. Daniel heard the whole story about my italian so called *fiance* from Althea and last night when we went out for dinner with Anton, Althea and cousin Theodor, he kept asking me about him. He met his sister in London, he said. You see, us, the european aristocracy live in a very close circle. we all know each other! I want to seduce Daniel; and it won't be hard. The thing is that I suspect that Theodor wants him too! Poor Theo! He's still trying to recover from the fiasko with Aunt Myrtles' gardener! I feel so sorry for him! he was going out with this model for a couple of weeks! And was he cute! But it wasn't meant to last. Theodor got bored with the model boy after the first week. I don't blame him really. the boy was very cute as I said, but quite brainless. Last night, after we went back home, I went to Theodor's room and lied down next to him under the duvet! We talked and talked for hours. He said he had a crush on Daniel too, but he realised that he was straight so he wouldn't make a fool out of himself by confessing his love to him. And that he would be happy for me if I got together with Daniel! That was very generous of him. But my poor darling Theo, had no other choise really. In the meanwhile, aunt Myrtles' trips to her friend Patricia Hendel in Paris, have become more frequent! I guess it won't be long till we hear wedding bells for cousin Theo and her horsefaced floosy of a daughter, Miss Constance. Today me and Daniel are going to this Spa! We have made room reservations there for 3 days. two single rooms, mind you. Althea and boyfriend Anton were supposed to come as well, but Anton is going to Italy for a concert and Althea can't but follow him, so that leaves me and Daniel all alone for 3 whole days in a Spa, 3 hours from Prague. Heaven knows what's going to happen!! I'll tell you all in my next post, I promise! At least, I hope I'll have *something* to tell you. Before I leave, I would like to thank this sinister boy, Jonny five, who wrote this lovely little poem for me! Thank you Jonny darling! You english boys are so cute! Sinister: Constant Spray

Hello, I lost faith with Radiohead with that Anyone Can Play guitar song, I thought wow punk rock yeah I can play guitar. So when I found out I really couldn't and that that Steve Jones was a quite accomplished guitarist on Never Mind the Bollocks and some of the "licks" as I believe they can be called are rather troublesome to play. I was going to write a song in response called Anyone Can Write a Song Better Than Anyone Can Play Guitar but I though better of it as, a) I could only play 2 guitar chords and at a speed that makes Galaxie 500 sound like Napalm Death, and b) where would it end if they replied to that and the banter kept going to and fro. We'd have a song title longer than that Fiona Apple album. Apparently the new Constant Spray album title was going to be a synopsis of world history since the dawn of time, but it wouldn't fit on the CD cover. Call that progress? I think not. They settled in the end for "Atlas dropped us long ago" which isn't half as good, though less than half as long I guess. I do admire the way Ocean Spray write songs in Volapuk, as it does appear to be the true international language of angst and not just a throw back to 19th Century British imperialism. Somehow words seem more touching with an umlaut or two, or is that just me? My fave song is "If I give you the time will you wait for me", which is a exploration of the 4th dimension. Though the middle 8 detailing the plot lines of all 3 Back to the Future films does, I admit, devalue its credibility. Probably one of those ideas that seemed good at the time, much like the October Russian Revolution (or November if you have a differing calendic opinion, I'm currently a Juliean but that's another story). Actually, I think of Radiohead much in the same way as Josef Stalin, and see Belle and Sebastian more as Leon Trotsky, will it end when Stu picks a fight and they all get axed on tour in Mexico. Sorry.. ummm as for Lenin I see him as the picture on my wall I kiss before I go to bed every night. I was going to write a dissertation on a comparison of Lennon and Lenin once, the conclusion being that where one says no the other says i, hello, goodbye etc. But now I'm starting to lose the plot much like any Yoko Ono album. Actually has anyone ever heard a Yoko Ono album? What would go through your mind as you positioned it upon your record player and think I'd quite like to hear Yoko sing now. I'm also glad someone mentioned the comedic values of Willie Carson on A Question of Sport earlier today, as I'm starting a campaign to get rid of John Parrot and little Willie would be an ideal replacement. And also a fitting farewell and memorial to Ethel from Eastenders. The 'enders just isn't the same without ol' perky Ethel and a little jovial jockey under her arm. Plus then Dot might not be be wrecking chemist shops and instead have her feet up with a cup of Rosy and a slice of cake watching hilarious sporting banter. Though you never see people in soaps watching TV do you? Reflection of real life my arse. Or something... Anyway, I'm probably going to that Scalarama thingy on Saturday, I'll be the one singing "(I've had) The Time of My Life" on the karaoke machine all night wearing a Dum Dums t-shirt. Sinister: Creeps and weirdos

Blooming students, eh? They get back to university after the summer hols and immediately start posting. It's just not on. I want to go back to the old routine of checking my inbox and finding it empty all day long and being bored out of my brain. Bah! Marc Bloomfield piped up and said the last Lahndahn > picnic was top, if a bit wet, so here's hoping for some sort of indoor > picnic-type thang, with more booze than you could shake a very large stick > at. Plus you get to choose between watching England against the Evil Germans or watching Baxendale. Decisions, decisions... I'll be wearing my disco belt and heels, of course. And I'd like to offer those people outside for a SQUARE GO right now. Grrr! I was cleaning my room the other evening (yes, really!), dusting the corners of the ceiling, when I discovered a nest of spiders! Bloody arachnids, they follow me around everywhere these days. There were lots of ickle ones crawling about a mass of cobwebs and Mummy and Daddy were guarding them. What to do? They were too high and too small to catch in a pint glass and whipping at them with my duster might make them fall down in my face - no thank you very much! The Flatmate suggested hoovering them up, but I thought that was a cruel idea, especially considering he's a hippie veggie boy, so I've left them there in their little webby creche and hopefully they'll scuttle off under the skirting board when they've grown up a bit. Or maybe they'll grow to the size of dinner plates and crawl into my mouth while I'm asleep and... euch! Pass the hoover... Sinister: KidA versus FYHCYWLAP

Listened to Kid A on the way home from work yesterday, then on the way in again this morning. As I approached a set of lights I saw a formation of birds in the sky flying south, Kid A is almost certainly going to be the winter soundtrack for many. I enjoyed the album a great deal, the dissonant electronics serve to create a mood of unease and expectation which set your mind on edge and create the receptiveness/need/hunger for the 'proper' vocal tracks when they finally arrive. They are quite obviously messing with our heads, and why the fuck not? But the big question, is it better than B&S' last offering? Chalk and cheese y'might say, but at least the 'head are moving in different directions, whereas B&S seem to be reheating the same old soup to a certain extent. Sinister: making a uni society....

hi, well, me and some pals have decided that here in norwich we're going to create an indie appreication society at uni. There is demand, we believe, cos we've seen all the cool kids wandering around campus, and we've seen them at gigs and things. We decided to call ourselves CODI, a tribute to both the Mogwai album, as well as actually meaning something, which it does. Plus it sounded a little less cheesier than indie kid society. So I was wondering if there is anyone here in sinister land, who has something simelar at their place of study? If so, would you mind e mailing me so I can pick your brains? We've got some ideas at the moment what we want to do, and once we've got it all set up then we'll see how much of it is actually acheivable. For the moment though, they remain ideas. Well, thats it for the moment. By the way, its my birthday next week. Hello Popkids, i didn't see you there. You really shouldn't sneak up on me when i'm reprimanding the staff. Now shoo! No, not you Popkids, the au pair. Go on Melody, shoo! (gosh i sound like Thom Yorke.) Hmm? Cold? No, she can get dressed outside. Now park yourselves on the chaise longue whilst i mix the drinks. Well. What have we been up to lately? I disappear for a few weeks to find my box swollen with digests. And there's nothing worse than a swollen box. I didn't read everything, but the main theme seems to have been German fighter aircraft. To wit, Messerschmitts. I'm not a Messer man meself. I'm more of a Fokker. What else? Well, no B&S tour dates or news, and precious little content. I expected nothing else though. Other heads above the parapet i feel like firing at - "Is anyone going to Scalarama on Saturday?" Yup. Me. Plus various fellow goons and goonesses. -"Is anyone going to the Delgados on Sunday? And are Cousteau any good?" Depends on the state i'm in (does that qualify as content?)after Scalarama. But yes, Cousteau are purdy good from the little i've heard. Although i was under the impression that the support acts were Clearlake and (eek!) The Incredible String Band. Probably more The Incontinent's String Pants these days, as they must be almost as old as Geri Halliwell. "discuss - Comics" - Welllllllll... I never thought much of Manning, Bowen liked a bit of bully, but Carson's the man. It was the way he told them. Fresh thought...Odd the way the old time, self proclaimed 'comics' appeared on 'The Comedians' yet 'Alternative Comedians' appeared in 'The Comic Strip', n'est pas? Non?
