PLEASE READ THE FIRST PARAGRAPH AT LEAST!!! Hello All. I was thinking about the whole B&S situation last night, and thought that this time right at the moment is probably quite an important point in their history like the calm before the storm of the big time world domination. And for that reason I thought it may be a fun thing to do to find out what the lists definitive favourite B&S song is. Lots of people in their debut post write their favourite song, and well, Im willing to compile it if youre willing to vote. Still interested? Good. I reckon that it would be a lot easier to number the songs, so that then you could just put them in the subject line, so I wouldnt have to open 1200 emails. So people, if you want to have your say in this great democracy, please email me privately (samwaltonyeah(a)hotmail.com) and simply write on the subject line Vote: x, y, z where x is your favourite song, y your second favourite and z your third. Ive deliberately excluded Legal Man, because the idea is to work out the favourite so far, from the beginning to now. Sorry if this strikes you as very anal, but I like doing these kinds of things. Sinister: The dream of all the post-rock beardy kids that hung around here

Hallo. I've been in email incommunicado for a week. In my absence I see that Jesus has been born and the Guardian have installed some odd new antiseptic wipes in the loos. On the dispenser it says something like 'Better to be safe than sorry! Step one: Take a wipe. Step Two: Wipe the seat with it. Step Three: Throw wipe into toilet'. Are loo seats really that dangerous? Perhaps there have been complaints. Lots of girls 'hover' - did you know that? Also, quite a few people stand up to wipe. Who knows what other things people get up to. I suppose that after reaching a certain age, the finer points of lavatorial etiquette are no longer subject to peer appraisal. RECOMMENDATION SPOT: There's a great little magazine called 'The Chap'. Buy a copy if you can but in the meantime have a look at their website. ( http://www.artfink.demon.co.uk/chap/) The interactive 'Semiotics of Hair' is a particular treat. See if you can find 'The Outlandish' - my favourite. The writers are probably sniggering twits you'd avoid in social situations, but then aren't we all? I'm looking forward to meeting Peter Miller. SKIP THE NEXT FOUR PARAGRAPHS IF YOU'RE BORED OF ALL THIS CAMBER TALK SPOT: I went on the ATP tour too, you know. I don't think I made a big splash. As Mike has said, perhaps my finest hour was jumping up and down singing 'Jet', and I nicked that idea from Alan Partridge. Also, I missed most of the star-studded party in Hewitt et al's chalet, having tired of avoiding men with beards. Not Instead I went back to our chalet with Trousers and Baxendale boy and tried to remember the name of 'The Big Chill' ('The Big Sleep'? NO! 'The Big Blue' NO! 'The Big Bus! ALMOST CERTAINLY NOT!). Also we discussed Momus and the preponderance of bands playing on Sunday with one-syllable names starting with P. We had to beat the gatecrashers from our door. I kind of missed out on the five-a-side too. Alasdair didn't believe me when I said I had been training hard since the last time he saw me fall over a football, so I could only bask in their reflected glory. It really was very exciting, and I'm cross that I missed the first half of the final because of a kitchen mix up and then spent the rest of it choking on chips and avoiding getting ketchup on my fluffy creamy coat. It was nice to see Stuart play but I'm ashamed to have been a part of the post-match hijack of the team's success. If the 'team photo' is ever posted up then you could be forgiven for thinking that Slut Jockey's victory was largely attributable to the ref not spotting that they had fielded two dozen players instead of five. Stuart had some business cards printed up billing himself as 'Camp Psychiatrist'. His plan was to set up a booth next to the merchandise stall, where people could come and gain expert advice on whatever subject was troubling them. Like Lucy in Peanuts but for free. I believe he was talked out of it. I'm not sure if it was 'Legal Man' that I heard in the pub. People said it was, but I think Beanz Meanz Geddes might actually have been playing Brigitte Bardot's 'St Tropez' (aka Eurotrash theme) for a laugh. I mean it was *identical*. RESPONSES TO PEOPLE WHOSE NAMES HAVE FOUR LETTERS AND BEGIN WITH 'Y' SPOT: Youn said lixi's posts remind her of 'Morvern Callar' and lixi wondered what this meant. I read this book and didn't like it much. If Youn means you resemble Morvern then I think she's calling you a weird rave-chick who hides your boyfriend's corpse in an attic and passes his unpublished novel off as your own in order to fund a trip to the Ibiza. Or for some existentialist laugh, I'm not sure. Also, you sleep around a lot. Is this sounding familiar? Yuka pondered: > Why is Scotland called "the land of cakes?" The proper answer (I think) is that it's from a Robbie Burns line probably alluding to oatcakes. I haven't thought up the funny answer yet. Incidentally, no one really calls it the land of cakes, as far as I'm aware. Sinister: The art of talk without saying anything

Hi all: Ugh,a couple of days off and this list gets all stormy as if we were in the cast for some C5 version of 'Wuthering Heights', I wonder if there is such interest to revamp 19th classics inputting flesh out of the corsets here and there,why nobody had suggested c5 media moguls about this latter project.It is disturbing even with corsets up and no cleavage. Going back to factual content: should over-privileged ones have a right to proclaim they are over-privileged and the rest of us nod along celebrating their fortune?It is a nearly theological matter,omigod.Connecting this last issue of discontent with our previous discussion of musical critical theory in the last 80's, I would agree that pre-reviews would only be acceptable if their language is so baroque and obscure, and say much more about the reviewer than about the album itself, offering two choices to the reader: a)Not having understood a word from the article actually, you still can enjoy the songs fully as if they were totally new to you when copies are available to the general public. b)Absolutely struck by the correspondant's interpretation, there is no need to listen to the songs, and you can pretend when being in some social conversation,his/her opinions are yours and look like there is something as deep as that in your airheaded mind. I used to practise the b)option in my shoegazing days.never bought any Pale Saints and managed to come across as a hugely intellected 17 years old. Elliott New said "for those of you who haven't heard the album yet". For heaven's sake, lad, IT HASN'T BEEN RELEASED YET! I'm gonna have to start deleting my Sinister e-mails so I don't read anything more about the album. No offence to Elliott or anyone else who has posted to the list with gos about the new record, but I'm sure that *some* of us would like to keep it a surprise until release day. Thanks Nick and "The Duke" (cool name) for spreading a bit of sanity. Please don't take this the wrong way, Elliott ... Sinister: A Quick Thank You

Alrighty People Don't worry this wont be a long post. I just want to say "Thank You" to Elliot New for posting the information and his thoughts on the new B&S album. I personally find it hard for someone to spoil an album by giving his thoughts / views and writing down some lyrics and descriptions from a few songs. Although it does piss me off when it happens with new films like Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. Usually when I imagine what a new album will sound like it almost always turns out to be completely different anyway. This is why I don't mind reading about what type of songs or what lyrics are on the album. Although I can understand why people would not want to know any of this. Sinister: Size matters

Evening All, I shall probably regret popping my pate above the parapet again, but anyway. VFM: I think there is a problem about charging "The Kids" full price for an album that's shorter than some £3.99 singles (which admittedly ARE often padded out with remixes.) One might expect a current CD album to be anything up to 60 minutes long. Maybe there wouldn't be a problem if one were certain that there was nothing else left in the can (which I think was the case with Pink Moon, although I await correction on that point.) However, what if you went to see a band on a tour to promote a (short) album & 40% of the set was unreleased? Some punters will pick up a CD in a shop just because of the "Droolz is Princess Honey of the Sinister List" sticker on the front, & I feel that they have a right to know that it will only fit on one side of a C60 tape. I am speaking very generally here, & have no particular artist, album or label in mind as I write Now for Fill Your Honey Cup, etc. reviews. I don't altogether understand the anticipation faction, but will try my best to respect it, as it is apparent that numerous others on the list wish. I guess that in the many weeks remaining until this album is at last released it will become increasingly hard to avoid seeing reviews that those loathesome journalists will pen having copped an early listen to their unfair freebies. Unless of course one chooses not to buy the media, or not to read the articles. It strikes me that a similar plan could be followed with any review-type posts that might emerge on this list, especially if signposted "Two or Three I Know About The New Album", & rather obviously consisting of a blow by blow account of the record. One could delete or skip it. Like one does with posts from people one knows to be boring. Good grief, isn't there an terifying echo in here?.......................... Hello, Back to Uni and everything here seems to be exactly the same as a month ago... except that I have left about 1,000,000 things I forgot to bring and had to buy them again :-( Ohhh.. what a storm brewed week it seems on sinister... Vel fell! >> last night... I fell with my scooter... << Too much velocity... well I hope Jeanette the village nurse is taking care of you without too much rectal termometer torture! >> now I have a swollen blueish knee to the size of a tennis ball<< ..an entry to the body parts gallery I think! Kev the girl... >> well I got mistaken for a lady again..<< I had that once, looking slightly girlie anyway and used to have a rock city going head banging good hairstyle... I went to this shop with my friend, the shopkeeper is this old guy... and a comment he made to my friend was "Your girlfriend is very pretty!" well.. at least I was pretty I suppose....... ====== waterman saga... I suppose B&S should thank waterman for the kind words.. I mean, calling them "Cheesy pop stars" is like a certificate from the master isn't it? The master of cheese saying you're cheesy is like Obe-Wan telling you that you're a Jedi... but B&S becoming mainstream sounds wicked.. and I can tell them that I knew them before they went famous! Yay. but yes, waterman is a complete moke!
