Ummm......I hope that Honey wonŽt send me to the guillotine........but the fact is that iŽve just created a B&S mailing list in spanish, which can be found at egroups. itŽs called "Segundos de luz" and of course you must know spanish for being there......... Sinister: You have reached the winter of my discontent

"It's Saturday night and I ain't got nobody. I got some money cuz I just got paid." I believe that I spent the last half of my teen years trying to find the guy who sings this song. Lots of money to burn and no one to spend it on. I AM the perfect girl for that guy! However, I've learned guys like that and those who say "don't be stupid, you're looking great" only exist in songs. Oh well. It's a Monday night anyway. Today was Labor Day and so to make absolutely no sense at all - it was a federal holiday which means no school or work. Of course, some of us celebrated Labor Day in the proper way and actually labored. Now, I'm all partied out. Actually, I'm home all alone and bored. I grew up on sitcoms so I know better than to tell 1300 people that. I remember an episode of Webster when he was going to be home by himself that night so he bragged about it at school. Only to have some hard kids that night come and try to break in to scare him. The poor little midgi-man had to hide in the clock just to stay safe! I also learned from Punky Brewster never to climb into a fridgerator even if it's not plugged in. That show confused me after it went to a cartoon. I never did figure out the purpose of the furry creature. And exactly what was I giving to get more for my punky? Other points to ponder in life is how can Uncut have a cd featuring the newest coolest music and have Nick Drake on it? I mean he's great - but he's definitely not going to be producing anything that's defined as "the newest". While musing over this point, I realized that there in the same issue there was an article about John Cusack. Even though I haven't seen the Dick Flick that is "High Fidelity", I'm still a big Cusack fan (Rather* a big Better Off Dead fan but close enough). The article pretty much sucks, as it is poorly written. However, dead in the middle of it is this: "Even the most sceptical** Hornby devotees can rest assured that 'High Fidelity' is as Anglophile and musically anal as its source novel. Just five minutes in, a Belle & Sebastian record is smashed because it "sucks ass". Stereolab, The Clash, Massive Attack, The UK Subs and many more unlikely exports figure in the action. As indeed do lo-fi luminaries The Beta Band, who Cusack originally invited to score the film. 'We tried to but we couldn't seem to get it done," he shrugs. 'We never got around to recording anything.' Does Cusack really think that Belle & Sebastian sucks ass? 'Well, it all depends on your state of mind. I don't know enough Belle & Sebastian. But that scene after the break-up in the store, we wanted something kind of wimpy and soft and melancholy. I think it's really funny.' Sitting on the fence here, aren't you John? 'Totally sitting on the fence!" he grins. 'Ha, ha!" I had to laugh at myself at this article because one of the paragraphs starts out with "Like Tim Robbins, Cusack is often highly vocal about politics." I was wondering why in the world they would just pop Tim Robbins name out of no where. I mean, hello, there are a lot of people that are vocal about politics. I mean if it was another actor that they were talking about then fine (still a stretch tho) but just to say an author's name.. Then, I realized they were talking about another actor. A little bit daft I am and I'm even a big 'Huddsucker Proxy' fan. In Hendersonville, NC there is a sign by the side of the road on Tracy Grove Rd that says "Honey for sell." Is there something the list mummy would like to tell us? *raises an eyebrow* Laura "meeting all of your Laura Llew needs since 1977" * I'm more like Magda Boom already! ** they're spelling choice - not mine. *** Spell check wanted to change Hornby to Horny and Magda to Magma. Maybe it knows more than I give it credit for. PS- I keep wandering into #sinister in hopes of seeing Ree, Will P., Noah, or Honey but never to any avail. Are y'all still alive? Hello... hello... is this thing on? PPS- a big shout out to Sinister's darling, my personal muse, and the co-leader of the wearing rubberbands around your wrist is trendy trend, Miss. Scarlett. She was the first person to respond to my first ever sinister post. It was over a year ago and about "Pretty In Pink" trivia. I've been having a bad case of the Molly Ringwalds lately. Sinister: adieu, adieu, to you and you and you-hoo

Like the Family von Trapp, I'm always on the run from truculent Nazis, and so have decided to bugger off to Crete for a week in the hope that they'll leave off for a bit. And so I can get a modicum of sun to my pasty skin before SAD sets in and I sew myself into my winter coat. In olden tymes, they used to sew themselves into their underwear for the winter, you know. Rather unsanitary, but there you go. Queen Liz I had a regular bath twice a year, and she was considered foolish to undertake this rash endeavour so frequently. So, I'll just take this last chance before I go to wish well to all Sinisterines, and especially those that I encountered last weekend on some grass and under a rather intimate umbrella, and those who I encountered yesterday by a river with Haribo foam sweetie products. Kids and assorted wildfowl love it so... Picnics are gorgeous things, and this season's crop have been a hoot, as far as I can gather from various intelligences and having been at several. Long live the twee practice. Have been very amused by the frothing mania which next weekend's Party in the Parks in Oxford has been anticipated all over the local radio. Craig David's coming round for a cuppa and some hot lovin' action, apparently, bless his cotton socks and little facial fungus thing. As are the Dumdums, Madison Avenue (don't call me baybee) etc. [insert own choice of toss pop group] etc. Thankfully I shall be far away from Mr David and his cohorts at the time when they're strutting their *stuff* in the vicinity. He's a pretty lad and all, but doew he have to rule the airwaves? Sheesh. I used to read Smash Hits religiously. How those innocent days have been forgotten... Tara a bit, then. I haven't posted for quite a while (3 days) and I figured "no time like the present." I returned from my short trip to Pennsylvania yesterday after catching copious amounts of fish and lounging about. Last night I attempted to write a story about something, but everything I started came out like shite and I lost interest. I said to a friend once that you should be emotionally involved with what you write and I certainly wasn't emotional about what I wrote last night, so I threw my notebook across the room, exclaimed "shite" pretty loud and then went to sleep. I haven't written anything in a few months and I fear my creative well may be drying up. Maybe it's because I've been living on salad and cottage cheese in an effort to lose a bit of weight. Unfortunately, no one has told me "Don't be stupid 'cause you're looking great." Anyway (does it seem like I say that too often?), I have to go finish reading "In Cold Blood" for school. It's ok so far but not one of my favorites. I guess after you read "The World According to Garp" nothing lives up anymore. Anyway (there I go again), I have 2 days till school starts and I still have to read 200 more pages! While food shopping with my Mom yesterday, I said to her, "Even though I light scented candles in my room, like cute cars, dress twee and have never had a real girlfriend, I'm not gay. She laughed and said that she didn't think I was anyway. Not that there is anything wrong with being gay, I just wanted to make sure I never had the same type of talk that Kenneth P had with his dad, and then spend the rest of my life trying to prove that I wasn't gay. I mean, the real reason I'm not actively seeking a girlfriend is because in reality, High School relationships have to end. I don't even know where I am going to college. Sinister: into open spaces

hello all. i'm a new one to this sinister list .. and a bit shy knowing that i know no one and yet am about to fling this little message into the great circuits and satellite connections that form the internet and into the inboxes of hundreds of computers all over the world. and you all, poets and dreamers and students and buisness types, will see it there and read it or glance at it or pass it over completely ... and the only thing i really know we have in common (as of yet) is a love for belle and sebastian. but that says something, doesn't it? a love for belle and sebastian. i'm currently working in philadelphia, in a little laboratory, under the gentle hums of exposed pipes and clicks and buzzes of great machines, performing reactions for us like they were taught to do. i'm a scientist here, trying desperately to get some sort of degree ... so i can be unleashed and set free to do field research in Africa or South America. collecting samples and fighting off snakes. bench work is not so much my cup of tea ... but it's a means to an end ... i say that like a mantra. and philadelphia is a secret ... a small city that only residents know is wonderful. and that keeps it modest. and the rent low. so i love it here, even when it's blazing outside and the mosquitoes are on a feeding frenzy. i sit on the windowsill with a cheap gin and gaze out at fitler square, attempting to read some unintelligeable nature article with a thousand formidable words, then drop everything and go off dancing for a bit. or off to a pub for a lager. it's a good life, for now. but every now and then i have need-to-travel seizures and an intense desire for adventure and change. youth is fleeting for all of us .. a concept that frightens me into action. all for now. i am looking forward to my next installment of the digest ... knowing you better ... and maybe one day putting some faces to typescript names. kendra +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. Sinister: Dreams and Spires

back again larry mickey said: I recall reading that the band had recorded *more* than 20 songs. Taking in to account that there were 11 tracks on the album, and a further three on the "Legal Man" single etc and when i read it this morning it broke my dream i had, where i was in some mystical record shop that had a bootleg version of fishyclap with all 20 tracks on. Unfortunately I can't remember what any of the additional songs were... there were lots of other grate records too in this record store, and i was buying them !A!L!L! I'm sure i had a dream the other night about kalliope and one about dimensionflippy ian last week. You pesky sinisterines coming round and invading my head. Someone else mentioned Francis Wheen's book on Karl Marx and i'd like to agree with them, a fine book it is, full of lots of tales of Marx the aspirant social climber and wannabe bourgeoisie. The father of the planned economy who never had two brass farthings to rub together. The oxford picnic was, as has been previously mentioned by ms alder, a grate success, small and perfectly formed. The only disappointment was not seeing any comedy punt (I said punt) moments, ie, pole/stick thing gets stuck in river bed, bloke hangs on to it whilst punt drifts away or small child tries to stand up in punt despite protestations of mother and promptly falls in, but it didn't really mar the afternoon too much. There was a rival picnic just down the bank from us featuring metaller/physicist/nerd types who were talking about mp3 players and things, we just pointed and laughed and talked about big brother ;) I notice on the auction list (apart from the fact that i'm top of the list*) that Gruff from the Super Furry Animals is offering to make you a loaf of bread. Special "herbal" bread prolly, oh and Sarah Martin (not Cracknell) will take your photo. I do hope we're all going to join in. I want to know what stuart's offering. It's not fair he hasn't said yet. Maybe we could just bid and then he can decide what he wants to do. *You, yes you, could have an evening to remember with ME. First I will cook you an exciting meal of your choosing from a wide ranging menu, and then I'll take you out dancing, and show you how to strut your stuff the CarsmileSteve way. A once in a lifetime opportunity <cough>. Surely it's worth a tenner? Peter Miller went on and on about Lloyd Cole and Deacon Blue, among other things. He said some things that were hard to agree with, but in a hilarious manner. They may be worth coming back to. Sinister: A grand day out

Yesterday, Miss Lixi and I boarded the bus at ten past ten and headed for Oxford. The sky was blue and the clouds were rococo. Before long I was drinking tea in a garden full of chickens. Stripe was big and fat and well-behaved and she cooed at me when I stroked her back. Chanticleer crowed to his heart's content, but rather upset the contentment of those of us who had to listen to him. Major Major kept running away. But we couldn't spend the entire afternoon in their company, for there was picnicking to be done. Have you ever tried lardycake? It's the bestest cake in the world. To make it, you roll out your dough, spread it with lard, sprinkle it with raisins and fold it in half. Then, you roll out the dough again, spread it with lard again, sprinkle it with raisins again and fold it in half again. You repeat this process a few dozen times until the whole thing is dripping with grease. Then you bake it. I mean what I say- it's the bestest cake in the world, and a classic English delicacy. Unfortunately, Oxford's bakeries were all closed and Sainsbury's only had jam doughnuts, so they had to do. We shared them out under a willow tree on the banks of the Cherwell, whilst sipping delicately from plastic cups. Coots and moorhens swam past and we fed them Trolli Burgers. I went home, snuggled up under my new duvet, which is the colour of bluebells, and dreamed of dappled sunlight on rivers and the end of the summer. Yes indeed, autumn is on its way and fashion spreads will be full of redheads wearing shades of moss, damson and amber for the next two months.
